Moldova launched ‘malicious attack' on Orthodox Church
The authorities in Moldova have launched a deliberate attack on the canonical Orthodox Church by barring a bishop from attending an Easter ceremony in Jerusalem, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said.
Bishop Marchel of the Moldovan Orthodox Church was scheduled to fly to Israel on Thursday to attend the Holy Fire ritual on April 19 and bring back part of the flame believed to descend miraculously at the site of Christ's crucifixion. He told the media that border police at Chisinau airport searched him and returned his passport only after his plane had departed, despite finding nothing suspicious. His second attempt to board a flight was also 'unjustifiably' blocked by Moldovan authorities.

She has served in the Israeli Foreign Ministry since 1993, holding posts in a number of foreign missions. She was appointed Israel's envoy to Russia in November 2024. Her tenure in Moscow began with controversy after she was summoned by the Russian Foreign Ministry for remarks made in an interview with Kommersant, in which she criticized Moscow's stance on the October 7 Hamas attacks. She condemned Russia for refusing to label Hamas a terrorist group, accusing officials of 'embracing' and 'rolling out the red carpet' for the militant group. Russia's Foreign Ministry called the remarks 'an extremely unfortunate start to a diplomatic mission.' Since then, however, her stay has been largely uneventful. In a later interview with RBK, Halperin praised the cooperation between Russia and Israel in securing the release of Hamas' hostages. Russia maintains official ties with both Israel and Palestine and promotes a balanced diplomatic stance, supporting the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders. Moscow has condemned both Hamas' 2023 attack on Israel and the civilian toll due to IDF strikes in Gaza.

Ukrainian agent caught in Russia – FSB (VIDEO)
Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has announced the detention of a Ukrainian intelligence recruit accused of spying in the western Ryazan Region. In a statement on Monday, the agency said the man, a Moldovan national residing in Russia, had maintained contact with a representative of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence since 2024 via Telegram. Acting on his handler's instructions, he allegedly gathered and relayed information about a Russian Armed Forces unit and a military-industrial facility in the region. According to the FSB, in return for his cooperation, the suspect was promised assistance in fleeing to France, after which he planned to travel to Ukraine and join one of its armed formations to fight against Russia. The FSB's investigative department in Ryazan Region has opened a criminal case for 'state treason in the form of espionage'. A court has ordered that the suspect be held in custody. The agency warned that Ukrainian intelligence actively recruits through the internet, social media, and messenger apps such as Telegram and WhatsApp to involve Russian citizens in sabotage and acts of terrorism. It added that anyone assisting the Kiev regime will be prosecuted. The FSB regularly reports on foiled terrorist plots and sabotage attempts on behalf of Kiev. Last week, a Russian national suspected of planning a bomb attack and attempting to flee to Ukraine was killed in a shootout with law enforcement in Western Siberia. A week earlier, the agency thwarted a Ukrainian plot to blow up a railway bridge in Saratov Region, killing a Russian suspect after he opened fire on officers.

The partnership of Russia and Nigeria under the OPEC+ framework plays a decisive role in maintaining global oil market stability, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak has said. His remarks came after a meeting with Nigeria's minister of finance and coordinating minister for the economy, Wale Edun. 'Our joint work within OPEC+ makes a decisive contribution to ensuring the stability and predictability of the global oil market,' Novak stated, as quoted by the press service of the Russian government on Tuesday. 'The decisions taken are based on real market indicators and trends and are aimed at balancing the market in the face of economic challenges.' Novak emphasized that collective action within OPEC and OPEC+ aligns with the long-term national interests of member countries and helps strengthen their economies. During the meeting, the two sides also discussed opportunities for full-cycle cooperation in the oil and gas industry, from geological exploration to field development. Russia is one of the largest participants in OPEC+ and the second largest oil exporter after Saudi Arabia. Nigeria is one of the largest exporters and producers of oil, a member of OPEC and OPEC+. Last month, Russian Deputy Energy Minister Roman Marshavin met with Nigeria's chargé d'affaires Garba Satomi Grema to discuss cooperation in geological exploration, petroleum product supply and hydropower engineering, as well as launching a dialogue between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Russia's Institute of Oil and Gas Technological Initiatives (IOGTI). Russia's energy ties with Africa have been expanding steadily. In March, Dmitry Poduyev, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation at the Russian Ministry of Energy, said that Russia was ready to support African nations by transferring technology, enhancing human capital, and ensuring stable energy supplies. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted last March that Moscow had doubled its exports of oil products to African countries in 2023–2024.
