Sarawak-made gluten-free sago cookies featured at Fine Food NZ 2025
Hafidz (standing, back row second right) joins the participants in a photo, taken during the exhibition in Auckland. Also seen are (standing, second row sixth right) Salbiah, Mazita, and Abdul Rashid. MIRI (July 3): Malaysia continues to make strides in exploring international markets as eight local companies participated in Fine Food New Zealand 2025, the largest biennial food trade exhibition in the Oceania region, held in Auckland from June 29 to July 1. Among the participants was IANA Corporation Sdn Bhd, the sole representative from Sarawak, which showcased gluten-free cookies made from sago flour ― a product jointly formulated with CRAUN Research Sdn Bhd. Sharing his experience, IANA Corporation Sdn Bhd managing director Mohd Hafidz Rohani said Malaysia's involvement in the event opened up new opportunities for collaboration with local importers and distributors, particularly in the health-based and food innovation segments. Hafidz, who also serves as chairman of the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) Miri, said the Malaysian exhibitors represented a wide spectrum of the food industry, including durian and pineapple products, ready-to-eat sambal, canned beverages, health items, fisheries products, and gluten-free foods. All participants were part of the Malaysian delegation under Pavilion Malaysia, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) in collaboration with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA). Oceania, with a population exceeding 50 million people and a growing ASEAN community, presents strong potential for Malaysian companies to establish a foothold in the regional market. This sentiment was echoed by Malaysia's High Commissioner to New Zealand, Mazita Marzuki, during the opening of Pavilion Malaysia at the exhibition. The Malaysia–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (MNZFTA), in force since 2010, has further facilitated the entry of Malaysian products into the New Zealand market. Hafidz said that the participation reflected the continued commitment of government agencies and industry players to expand the global reach of Malaysian products through high-impact trade platforms. The launch event was also attended by FAMA director-general Abdul Rashid Bahri and Perak State Executive Councillor for Women's Development, Family, Community Welfare, Entrepreneurs, and Cooperatives, Datuk Salbiah Mohamed. craun research Fine Food New Zealand 2025 gluten-free sago cookies

Datuk remanded over suspected RM75m money laundering linked to fibre network project
PUTRAJAYA, July 3 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained an order to remand a company director with the title 'Datuk' for investigation into alleged involvement in money laundering activities amounting to about RM75 million involving a fibre network development project. The four-day remand order until July 6 against the suspect, who is in his 50s, was issued by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin at the Magistrate's Court here today. According to a MACC source, the man is believed to have committed the offence in 2012 for approval of a loan financing amounting to RM400 million. 'Initial investigations found that RM75 million was channelled to a company owned by the suspect. He was arrested at about 4 pm yesterday at the MACC Headquarters,' he said. The source said the arrest was a follow-up to Op Fibre conducted by the MACC Special Operations Division (BOK) on June 30. 'BOK raided four different locations, including the suspect's residence and office in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. 'Through the operation conducted, MACC froze 12 bank accounts, including personal and company accounts, with a total value of about RM400,000,' he said. MACC Special Operations Division Senior Director Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin confirmed the arrests and that the case is being investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001). — Bernama

Ramly Food to delay price hike, says Armizan
Domestic trade and cost of living minister Armizan Mohd Ali said they had summoned frozen food company Ramly Food for an explanation following public concern over the price hike. PETALING JAYA : Frozen food company Ramly Food has agreed to temporarily postpone a planned price hike for its products, says domestic trade and cost of living minister Armizan Mohd Ali. Armizan said his ministry summoned the company following public concern, and a meeting was held last Tuesday to clarify the situation, Astro Awani reported. 'The ministry has issued a 'Goods Information Confirmation Notice' under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act to obtain justification for the planned price increase,' he was quoted as saying at a press conference today. The issue gained traction after a vendor notice dated April 14 from Ramly Food Marketing Sdn Bhd began circulating online, stating that product prices would go up starting next Monday. The notice attributed the increase to rising raw material costs. In a separate case, Armizan said Sim Yang Hok Industries Sdn Bhd, which recently went viral over claims it had increased the price of ice products from RM3.70 to RM6, has denied the allegation. He said the company clarified that no official notice was issued and that it had lodged a police report over the viral claims. 'So far, both companies have stated that any proposed price increase is due to operating costs and not the implementation of the sales and service tax (SST),' he said. He also advised companies to consult the ministry before implementing any price adjustments to ensure they do not violate anti-profiteering laws. The SST expansion, which took effect on Tuesday, maintains a zero rate for essential goods while imposing a 5% to 10% tax on non-essential items.
