PETALING JAYA : Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari has dismissed calls for another investigation into the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights.
Amirudin said there was no reason to restart the entire process, which had already involved 212 witnesses, Utusan Malaysia reported.
'There's no need to start another investigation from A to Z. We don't need to spend another eight months on this, right?' he was quoted as saying after an event in Cyberjaya today.
He also said the state government was not involved in the probe and had only acted as a witness, alongside local authorities, nearby developers, a security guard, an excavator operator, and Petronas officers.
Amirudin was responding to the Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru Residents' Welfare Association, which expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the investigation and called for a review of the findings.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the explosion and fire on April 1 had been classified as requiring no further action after investigators found no evidence of negligence or sabotage. He said the case could be reopened if new evidence emerged.
Amirudin said the full report would be made public once clearance is obtained from the relevant authorities.
'Those who are unhappy can review the report themselves and identify who was responsible. It provides a picture of the responsible parties.
'We can't simply assume that everything was interfered with. Perceptions cannot be proven scientifically or with certainty,' he said.

Body with gunshot wounds left at hospital amid robbery probe

CCTV footage showed two persons arriving in a dark-coloured car and leaving the body at Sultanah Aminah Hospital. PETALING JAYA : Police are investigating the discovery of a man's body left at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru, believed to be linked to an attempted robbery at a petrol station in Gelang Patah. Johor police chief M Kumar said the body, found with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, was dropped off at the hospital early yesterday morning without any identity documents. CCTV footage showed two persons arriving in a dark-coloured car and leaving the body at the hospital. Police are working to identify them. Fingerprint checks identified the victim as a 42-year-old man from Sungai Petani, Kedah, with four prior criminal offences. A post-mortem confirmed he died from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. Preliminary investigations revealed that around 12.10am, a group armed with parangs attacked another group, one of whom had a pistol, at a petrol station in Gelang Patah. The altercation led to shots being fired. Police later arrested two local men and a foreign national, aged between 30 and 40, in Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur, at about 7pm yesterday. A Glock 19 pistol, a firearm licence book, bullets, a magazine with six 9mm rounds, a car and spent bullet casings were seized. One suspect is a personal bodyguard, though police are verifying the legality of the firearm involved. All three suspects have been remanded until July 10. Kumar said police are working to determine their connection to the dead man.

Indonesia offers to cut duties on US goods to ‘near zero' in tariff talks

Indonesian state carrier Garuda will buy more Boeing planes as part of a US$34 billion pact. (AFP pic) JAKARTA : Indonesia has offered to cut duties on key imports from the US to 'near zero' and to buy US$500 million worth of US wheat as part of its tariff talks with Washington, its lead negotiator and a wheat industry association said today. Chief economics minister Airlangga Hartarto, who is Indonesia's lead negotiator, also confirmed that state carrier Garuda Indonesia would buy more Boeing planes as part of a US$34 billion pact with US partners due to be signed next week. Indonesia, which ran a goods trade surplus of US$17.9 billion with the US in 2024 according to the US trade representative, is facing a 32% tariff in US markets and has proposed increasing US imports to facilitate trade talks between the two sides. Airlangga said the Indonesian government has offered to cut tariffs on key American exports, including agricultural products, to near-zero from between 0% and 5% at present. 'It will be near zero (tariffs for US main exports), but it will depend as well on how much the tariffs we get from the US,' Airlangga said. Garuda's CEO has said it is in discussions with US Boeing to buy up to 75 units of aircraft. Garuda group did not respond to requests for comment today. The wheat purchases are also part of next week's pact with US partners. The chairman of Indonesia's wheat flour mills association, Franciscus Welirang, said its 'members will purchase 2 million tonnes in total through tenders with a competitive price.' 'The point is all of the members will buy US wheat,' Welirang, who is also a director at Indofood, told Reuters. The US counterparts in the wheat deal include Cargill, Bunge Global, Pacificor, Archer-Daniels-Midland, Columbia Grain International and United Grain Corporation, Welirang added. US exports to Indonesia include soybeans, petroleum gases and aircraft, Indonesian government data showed. When asked whether the trade talks include military deals, Airlangga said they were 'not part of the negotiation'. Susiwijono Moegiarso, a senior official with Indonesia's coordinating ministry for economic affairs, told Reuters that in return, Jakarta has asked the US for preferential tariffs on its main exports, including electronics, textiles and footwear. 'We want them to lower the tariffs (for those goods) as low as possible,' he said. Indonesia has also offered the US opportunities to invest in critical minerals projects, including in the country's abundant resources of copper, nickel and bauxite.
