Affin Group debuts in US bond market with US$300m note issue
The bank said in a statement today that the issuance follows the establishment of the EMTN programme and Affin's recent inaugural international credit rating of A3 (Stable) from Moody's Investor Services, Inc.
'The notes were priced at 105 basis points (bps) over the five-year US Treasury yield, offering a fixed rate of 5.112 per cent per annum and rated A3 (Stable) by Moody's Investor Services Inc, affirming the bank's robust credit profile and stable outlook.
'The issuance attracted strong global demand, with the final order book exceeding US$1 billion across 67 investor accounts, representing 3.5 times oversubscription,' it said.
Affin said the distributions geographically comprised 87 per cent to Asia, 11 per cent to Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), and two per cent to offshore US investors.
It said that by investor type, the notes were allocated 72 per cent to asset, fund managers/insurance, 24 per cent to banks, and four per cent to private banks/others.
Meanwhile, Affin Group president and group chief executive officer Datuk Wan Razly Abdullah said the bank's debut in the US dollar bond market marks a significant progression in the group's capital markets strategy, drawing strong global investor demand.
'The overwhelming response underscores investor confidence in our fundamentals and validates the credibility we have established.
'Guided by the Affin Axelerate 2028 (AX28) Plan, the group remains committed to unlocking long-term value through unrivalled customer service, digital leadership and responsible banking with impact,' he added.

LFG unit to offload vessel in RM32mil agreement
PETALING JAYA: Omni Victory (L) Inc, an indirect, fully owned subsidiary of Lianson Fleet Group Bhd (LFG), has entered into a memorandum of agreement (MoA) to sell the vessel Omni Victory to Huashun Shipping (Liberia) Inc for a cash sum of US$7.6mil or about RM32.02mil. Omni Victory is a Malaysian-flagged anchor handling and supply tug built in 2010 with a deadweight tonnage of 2,524 tonnes and a static bollard pull of 108 tonnes. Acquired by LFG in March 2011 for RM65.8mil, the vessel's net book value stood at RM22.57mil as of May 31. The purchaser, Huashun Shipping (Liberia) Inc, operates as a wholly owned unit of Shenzhen Huawei Offshore Shipping Transport Co Ltd. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, LFG said it will retain no liabilities or provide any guarantees following the transaction. The sale price was negotiated on a willing-buyer, willing-seller basis, with the vessel valued at US$5.7mil by an independent valuer last December. The proposed disposal is part of LFG's ongoing fleet rejuvenation efforts to modernise and replace its fleet in line with the evolving market demands of the oil and gas industry. 'This also aligns with LFG's rebranding and long-term strategy to diversify from being a pure offshore support vessel player into other vessel asset classes, supporting our pivot towards new markets and strengthening our long-term growth and operational flexibility,' the group said in its filing. Proceeds from the sale will be directed toward general corporate purposes and to fuel LFG's growth initiatives. While the transaction will not impact LFG's issued share capital or the shareholdings of its major shareholders, it is expected to yield a net gain of approximately RM8.15mil, positively affecting LFG's earnings, net assets and gearing for this year.

Robinhood launches tokens allowing EU users to trade in US stocks
FILE PHOTO: The logo of Robinhood Markets, Inc. is seen at a pop-up event on Wall Street after the company's IPO in New York City, U.S., July 29, 2021. REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File Photo (Reuters) -Robinhood said on Monday it has launched tokens that will allow its customers in the European Union to trade more than 200 U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds, including Nvidia, Apple and Microsoft. The commission-free tokens can be traded around-the-clock, five days a week, the trading platform said on Monday. They will be issued through a partnership with blockchain firm Arbitrum. With the move, Robinhood stands to benefit from rising global interest in the U.S. stock market - home to some of the world's most influential tech giants and leading beneficiaries of the AI boom. Tokenized equities mix traditional finance with crypto-like trading, and have been gaining traction among international investors due to the better access, flexible trading hours and lower costs. Experts believe such tokens could dramatically alter the securities investing landscape. In a January opinion piece for The Washington Post, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev wrote tokenization could also open the door for retail investors to access private companies' stocks. Menlo Park, California-based Robinhood plans to eventually develop its own blockchain that will expand trading hours for tokens to 24/7 from 24/5 currently, it said. Last month, crypto exchange Kraken also launched equities-linked tokens for non-U.S. investors. EXPANDING CRYPTO TOOLS Robinhood also announced several new product offerings, including crypto perpetual futures for its EU customers and staking for U.S. users. The perpetual futures will allow users to make leveraged bets on the prices of cryptocurrencies. Unlike traditional futures, they have no expiry date. Rival Coinbase will also begin offering similar tools to U.S. customers from next month. Meanwhile, staking lets customers lock up their cryptocurrency to help validate transactions on the blockchain, earning rewards in return. The practice had been controversial in recent years, until the Securities and Exchange Commission's staff last month said some forms of staking are not securities offerings.
