Youth captain Simpson-Pusey keeps options open
Simpson-Pusey, 19, led City to a record fourth title in the competition and also became the first defender to claim the PL2 player of the season award.
City's injury crisis allowed Simpson-Pusey to break into the first team this season, making six appearances in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Now he feels he has completed his business at academy level, saying: "I feel like I've done what I've needed to do with the under-21s. I just want to play first team football."
Asked if it would be at another club, Simpson-Pusey told BBC Sport: "I guess we'll see [what happens]. That's not on my mind yet. I'm definitely ready.
"I've not spoken to anyone about it. I'm sure some people will feel the same, especially after winning the league."
City's elite development squad coach Ben Wilkinson told the Manchester Evening News: "He has had a great season. Who knows what is next but he probably wants to leave U21 football.
"The fact he can leave it having lifted the Youth Cup at the end of last year and the PL2 trophy this year means he can be really proud of his academy journey."

Chelsea under pressure to make sales after £27m fine by Uefa
Chelsea have been hit with a £27 million fine by Uefa, with a further £52m conditional for breaching financial rules. The latest punishment leaves them under pressure to make sales this summer ahead of their return to the Champions League, according to The Guardian. The Blues would also be unable to register new signings in European competitions over the next two seasons 'unless they can show they have generated a cost saving with sale of players against acquisitions.' Enzo Maresca's side are open to offers for Noni Madueke and Christopher Nkunku, while Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling also have no future at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal have been linked with an interest in Madueke, who has been valued at £50m by Chelsea. Nkunku also has admirers in the Premier League, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. But given the struggles of Felix and Sterling, the West London giants could struggle to get the duo off their books this summer. Chelsea have been very active in the ongoing transfer window. They have already secured a £30m move for Liam Delap, while Joao Pedro recently arrived at Stamford Bridge in a deal worth up to £60m. Chelsea are set to announce Jamie Gittens after reaching an agreement with Borussia Dortmund. They also retain an interest in West Ham United's Mohammed Kudus, despite Pedro's arrival.

How Flick is planning to use Rashford at Barcelona
Marcus Rashford is set to become Barcelona's third signing of the summer transfer window and will join the club on loan from Manchester United. The 27-year-old will arrive with plenty to prove, after a tricky time in the Premier League recently, and Hansi Flick is already planning on where he fits into his squad. According to Diario Sport, Flick is not planning on using Rashford as a back-up to Robert Lewandowski and only wants him on the flank. Flick's plans for the new campaign include Ferran Torres as Lewandowski's back-up, with Dani Olmo also an option as a false nine. Rashford, therefore, is being primed for a role off the left flank where he can cut inside and go for goal. He said back in 2023 that it was his preferred position, telling the club's official website: 'I prefer the left, I feel like on the left it's easier to stay in the game Yet in a recent chat with Spanish YouTube channel xBuyer he had changed his tune: 'For me, playing as a No 9 is becoming more comfortable, more natural.' CPL's Vancouver FC fires head coach Afshin Ghotbi, hires Martin Nash
VANCOUVER - Canadian Premier League club Vancouver FC has fired its first-ever head coach, Afshin Ghotbi. The team announced the move Wednesday, saying Martin Nash will take over as interim head coach and head of Vancouver's academy. Ghotbi has been the club's head coach since the team's inception back in 2022, and Vancouver went 18-37-20 during his tenure. The team currently sits in last place in the CPL standings with a 1-9-5 record on the season after getting thumped 4-0 by York United on Saturday. Vancouver's president and chief executive officer Rob Friend says in a statement that Ghotbi helped build the team from scratch, both on and off the pitch. Nash joins the team after serving as head coach for York United from 2021 to 2024, and as an assistant for Cavalry FC from 2019 to 2021. Appointing the 49-year-old Canadian international to the role is an opportunity to 'reset, refocus and align our organization from top to bottom as we aim to put in strong performances over the second half of the year,' Friend said in a statement. 'We look forward to building momentum and finishing the season on a high note,' he said. This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 23, 2025.
