Arsenal fans all agree on wonderkid Max Dowman after Newcastle display - 'Generational'
Arsenal fans have compared wonderkid Max Dowman to Lionel Messi following his stunning pre-season outing. The youngster started on the bench for the Gunners in their pre-season friendly clash with Premier League rivals Newcastle United.
And with the two sides drawing 2-2 with half an hour left, the 15-year-old was introduced as a second-half substitute. And Dowman produced some heroics to help the North London side victory.
He displayed sensational skill down the right flank, with one particular solo run resulting in him being fouled by Newcastle midfielder Joelinton for Arsenal 's late penalty. Martin Odegaard eventually scored.
And taking to social media after the game, Arsenal fans were full of praise for Dowman and his performance, some even comparing him to Argentine superstar Lionel Messi. One fan said: 'Max Dowman. The Future Of England Football. You don't come across this very often. Generational.'
A further added: 'Max Dowman could be one of Arsenal's best ever academy products. At fifteen, there aren't many who have shown this type of flair and determination in men's football against premier league opposition. The future is bright.'
'I don't think people realize how good Max Dowman is and what he could become. At 15, he looked like the best player on the pitch,' another fan responded. 'This is a Lamine Yamal level of talent. Arteta and Arsenal will not be able to keep him out of the side for much longer. He's decisive.'
'Lionel Messi, I hope you enjoyed your time as the greatest football of all time because Max Dowman is here now,' another Arsenal supporter said, with another writing: 'Messi wasn't this good at 15. Max Dowman might just be his heir.'
Elsewhere, Arsenal fan Piers Morgan was also full of praise for Dowman. He wrote: 'This kid is the real deal.. 15 years old and running rings round Newcastle's first team? Nuts.. and so exciting.'
Dowman, 15, will hope that his positive outing against Newcastle is enough to force him into Mikel Arteta 's thinking for the new season. The youngster has yet to make his first-team competitive debut for the club but is already a regular for the Arsenal under 18s despite his age.
Dowman, who is an England under-17 international, made his Premier League 2 debut last term. Speaking about Dowman's latest appearance, boss Mikel Arteta said: 'Yeah, it is special.
'Obviously what he's done today against this team in the time that he had on the pitch is something certainly not common to witness for a 15-year-old. We are extremely happy to have him.
'I think again the environment that he's around in, his family, the people at the club and around the academy as well, super helpful because they put him into this position so early in his journey, having a real chance and a real presence when he plays for the first time.'

Mikel Arteta ruthlessly mocked as Arsenal manager's word for 'friendly' comes to light
Mikel Arteta has internally made it clear that he does not believe in the concept of friendlies and has used a different word with his Arsenal players during pre-season Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been ridiculed after it emerged that he doesn't buy into the concept of a 'friendly' and instead told his players that their pre-season outings were 'tests'. The Spaniard doesn't like the term attached to non-competitive matches as he looks to finally end the Gunners' wait for a Premier League title. Arsenal have been over in Asia playing several of their domestic rivals as they look to get match ready. In recent days they were beaten by AC Milan on penalties, saw off Newcastle 3-2, before later losing to rivals Tottenham on Thursday. Arteta has internally made it clear that he doesn't believe in the friendly concept, as per the Athletic, but that has seen him mocked by fans. One fan said on social media: "Then Arsenal failed their first and last tests." Another claimed: "Does this mean arsenal failed their test against Tottenham??" Along the same theme was: "Well they lost a test against Spurs". Arsenal will begin their season with a stern test away at Manchester United. The Red Devils have impressed in pre-season and the Gunners will be under pressure to showcase their title credentials when they head to Old Trafford in a fortnight. Arteta has presided over three successive seasons where Arsenal have finished second, but he's confident that his side have benefited from their three matches in Asia. He said: "Yes, for the three of them and today in particular it showed different demands, different understanding of things that we have to do. "I'm very pleased with what I've seen in most of the things that we've done but we missed something you know in certain moments, that preciseness, that moment that unlocks the result and the moment to turn the result away and win the match but in terms of attitude, the desire, level of organisation in the team, it was great and we have to continue to elevate a little bit all the individual aspects." Arteta has continued to employ unorthodox methods. Last pre-season, during a team dinner, the Spaniard hired professional pickpockets to go around the tables taking things from the players. After dinner was finished, Arteta asked the team to empty their pockets, when several individuals clocked they were missing their valuables. It was then that the Arsenal boss underlined the need to be alert at all times. The 43-year-old has, again, invested heavily in his squad as he looks to end a trophy drought that dates back to his FA Cup triumph in 2020. The former Manchester City assistant claimed his squad lacked depth recently, but he's since seen Viktor Gyokeres arrive from Sporting Lisbon. But it later emerged that the prolific striker wanted to leave St James' Park. Isak trained alone at former club Real Sociedad earlier this week, but is believed to have returned to Tyneside over the weekend after Liverpool had a £110million bid rejected. The forward has not been involved since being sent home from Glasgow ahead of the Toon's clash with Celtic on July 19, amid transfer speculation. Following his side's 1-1 draw with Tottenham in South Korea, boss Howe was asked if Isak will return to team training next week. The Magpies boss said: "You have to earn the right to train with us. "We are Newcastle United. The player has a responsibility here to be part of a team and part of a squad - you have to act in the right way. So that is also at play here. "We will make sure that any player does that to earn the right to train with the group. According to the Mail, Liverpool will likely return with a second bid for Isak when Newcastle close in on a replacement. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe gives update on Alexander Isak's Liverpool transfer The Toon are competing with Manchester United for the signature of RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, having launched a £70m bid for the Slovenian earlier this week. Howe, 47, also admitted that he has not spoken to Isak while away in Asia. Addressing Isak's future, the Newcastle boss said: "Of course I'd like him to be (at training next week), but whether he will I don't know at this moment in time. "We have been here with the time difference, preparing for training and for games. Other people have been dealing with that situation back at home." After jetting back from Asia today, Newcastle will return to action on Friday night, when they host Espanyol at St James' Park. On Saturday they will then welcome Atletico Madrid to Tyneside, and it remains to be seen whether Isak will feature in either game. 6 6 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW In addition to Sesko, Newcastle have also been linked with Brentford star Yoane Wissa. The Bees ace is keen on a move to St James' Park, with boss Keith Andrews saying earlier today: "The situation is that he is training at the training ground. "It's probably public knowledge at this stage that he left our training camp in Lisbon. That was probably the right decision for all parties. We had to support him in what is a difficult time for him. "I think we have to remember that it's not just about being a footballer, it's the person and the human being first. "Again, it's public knowledge that there is some interest in Wiss. We have to respect that and respect him. "I have got a really good relationship with Yoane from last season and that's still the case now, but obviously it's not ideal." 6
