Iga Swiatek is at No. 3 after Wimbledon and Amanda Anisimova is in the top 10. Sinner still No. 1
A year ago, Anisimova was ranked 189th and wasn't able to get into the field at the All England Club automatically. So she tried to qualify but lost. This year, Anisimova was seeded at Wimbledon and made it all the way to her first Grand Slam final, beating No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals before losing to Swiatek 6-0, 6-0.
'I look at it, and I'm like, 'Oh, wow.' It's kind of a shock at first, and I can't really process it. Then it's like, 'Oh, yeah, I've played very well so far this year,' so it kind of makes sense. I feel like I kind of look at it from both sides,' Anisimova said.
She climbed from No. 12.
'I mean, it's super special and a surreal feeling to be in the top 10,' Anisimova said. 'If I thought to myself last year, if someone told me that I'll be breaking the top 10 by now, I don't know, it would be pretty surprising to me considering where I was last summer.'
Swiatek was No. 1 for most of the past three seasons but a year without reaching a tournament final dropped her to No. 8 last month. Making the final at a grass-court tournament before Wimbledon pushed her up to No. 4, and now she's another place higher after collecting her sixth major trophy.
Sabalenka remained atop the women's rankings, followed by French Open champion Coco Gauff, who lost in the first round at Wimbledon.
Laura Siegemund leaped up 50 spots for the biggest improvement Monday — from 104th to 54th — by getting to the quarterfinals.
The biggest fall was by 2024 Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova, who slid 62 places, from No. 16 to No. 78, after bowing out in the third round.
Jannik Sinner stayed at No. 1 in the ATP after his first Wimbledon title and fourth at a Grand Slam tournament. Carlos Alcaraz, the two-time defending champion who lost in Sunday's final, kept his No. 2 ranking.
Semifinalist Taylor Fritz went up from No. 5 to No. 4, swapping with Jack Draper.
Flavio Cobolli's debut in a Grand Slam quarterfinal — he lost in that round to Novak Djokovic — lifted the 23-year-old Italian into the top 20 for the first time, going from No. 24 to No. 19.

However, after taking a year off, he triumphantly returned with a big win against Rafael Fiziev at UFC 313. It helps him hold on to his top-five spot in our UFC lightweight rankings. Dustin Poirier (30-9) Credit: USA Today Sports Dustin Poirier is one of the most beloved lightweights of all time. And despite his best efforts at UC 302, he fell to division king Islam Makhachev. Nevertheless, he remains one of the best 155-pounders in the world. He entered his UFC 317 clash with former featherweight Ilia Topuria as a sizable underdog. Well, those odds proved to be right as he was crushed by the one-time 145-pound champ in less than a round. He also lands a spot in our UFC lightweight rankings after hard-fought wins over ranked opponents Jalin Turner and Mateusz Gamrot. While they weren't pretty, he's fairly earned a spot on our top 10. However, his upset loss to Dan Hooker at UFC 305 is why he falls to the back of our latest UFC lightweight rankings. 9. Renato Moicano (20-7-1) Credit: Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images Over the last few years, Renato Moicano has evolved into one of the lightweight division's most entertaining fighters. However, his victories over Benoit Saint-Denis and Jalin Turner proved he was a top-10 talent as well. Being ranked means facing elite talent, and the Brazilian has gotten that in his last two bouts. Commanders are retiring Hall of Fame receiver Art Monk's No. 81 this season
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Commanders said Tuesday they are retiring Hall of Fame wide receiver Art Monk's No. 81 this season. Monk is the sixth player in franchise history to get that honor, joining Darrell Green, Sammy Baugh, Bobby Mitchell, Sonny Jurgensen and Sean Taylor. The team announced that Monk would have his number retired Nov. 2 when the Commanders host the Seattle Seahawks for a Sunday night game in Week 9. Monk was part of all three of Washington's Super Bowl teams during the organization's glory days and is arguably one of the greatest players in franchise history. He played 14 of his 16 NFL seasons with Washington before finishing his career with the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles. From his debut in 1980 through 1993, Monk caught 888 passes for 12,026 yards and 65 touchdowns during the regular season and 69 passes for 1,062 yards and seven TDs in the playoffs. An All-Pro pick in 1982 and a three-time Pro Bowl selection, Monk was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008. ___

Baseball players' union head hopeful of major leaguers participating in 2028 Olympics
ATLANTA (AP) — Baseball players' union head Tony Clark says plans are moving ahead exploring the possibility of using major leaguers in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and discussions have taken place this week during the All-Star break. 'There's a lot of work that still needs to be done,' he told the Baseball Writers' Association of America on Tuesday. 'We do know players are interested in playing, whether it's for the Team USA or any number of other teams around the world. ... There's just a lot of conversation that needs to be had sooner rather than later to see how viable this is, but we're hopeful that we can figure our way through it for the benefit of the game." The World Baseball Softball Confederation said Monday the baseball tournament will be played from July 15-20 at Dodger Stadium. Major League Baseball is considering whether it can interrupt its 2028 season to allow major leaguers to participate, which could necessitate changes to the sport's national television contracts. MLB did not allow players on 40-man rosters to participate in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, when Nippon Professional Baseball interrupted its season and Japan beat the U.S. 2-0 in the gold medal game. 'In the event that major league players are going to play, what does that mean and what does that look like?" Clark said. "And perhaps just as importantly, what does it mean for those players who aren't participating? What type of scheduling adjustments need to be made? What type travel considerations and support need to considered? What does that means in regards to insurance?' ___
