New ownership brings new life to Greenville's Hampton Station
Hampton Station is under new ownership and they've got big plans for the area. The newly enhanced outdoor courtyard is just phase one of what developers said will lead to a reimagined space for Greenville residents.
Hampton Station is just minutes away from Main Street and business leaders said it's the perfect location for a night on the town.
'It used to be hopping around here. People would follow us up to our parking spots at night to get our parking spots because it was so busy,' said Laurel Zimmerman, Owner of Pedego Electric Bikes Greenville.
When some restaurants left the water tower district last year, foot traffic diminished.
'We really miss being able to walk down there after work or just during lunch time, and to grab a bite to eat. It's become harder,' Zimmerman said. 'Our one restaurant that's left is not open every day, and it's usually in the evening. We still have our coffee shop, so we're frequent visitors there, but it would be really nice to have more options.'
Developers said it won't be long until more restaurants set up shop here.
'We've been focusing on trying to prepare ourselves to grow and serve more people. we've noticed these apartments coming up over here just down the road. Also noticing the reinvestment and just making this more and more beautiful place,' said Michael Matthews, Keipi Restaurant.
The yard already has new landscaping, a putt-putt golf course, and picnic seating.
'Already with the AstroTurf and the mini golf that they've put in, it's just a blast because this space is such a great family space,' said Matthews. 'It's where parents can come, their pets and their kids can just run around and have a great time. With these improvements, it's a lot safer and cleaner and just a more enjoyable experience for them, even just aesthetically.'
Developers said the redevelopment is expected to be finished by summer.
