Fans react to Karl Urban in Mortal Kombat 2
A new teaser for Mortal Kombat 2 dropped online. Titled 'Uncaged Fury,' the footage is an in-universe trailer for the film starring fan-favorite character Johnny Cage, an action film star and martial artist.
Fans have since taken to social media to share their reactions to the footage.
On YouTube, under the comments section of the teaser, fans were quick to compare Urban's performance to other action stars and their movies. One fan commented, 'The Scott Adkins we never got.'
Another commented on Reddit that they 'love' how the teaser satirizes '80s/90s action films' to show off the character.
Another fan on Reddit stated that Mortal Kombat II has 'nailed the 'washed up actor' vibe' that Johnny Cage has.
However, on X (formerly known as Twitter), one fan disapproved of Urban's casting as Cage and claimed he is 'too old for Johnny Cage.'
Another commenter somewhat echoed this sentiment on Reddit in response to the comment about Cage's 'washed up actor vibe,' saying this could potentially make Urban's age work in favor of the role.

In the video, Cage encounters a group of goons at a warehouse and says, 'It's Showtime,' before proceeding to fight them.
Cage performs some choreographed moves to ward off the thugs attacking him, and dodging knives with backflips. As Cage continues fighting, the teaser narrator states that the thugs 'pissed him off' and 'f—– with his shades.' The narrator further notes that the thugs who attacked Cage should have brought 'more guys' if they wanted a chance at winning.
Cage turns to face a woman, who fires a rocket at him. He jumps above the rocket, which exits the warehouse and flies onto a helicopter, causing it to explode. The footage ends as Cage takes off his shades to pose.
Mortal Kombat II hits theaters on October 24, 2025. Besides Urban, the film stars Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Adeline Rudolph, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Desmond Chiam.

When you're actually trying to figure out which titles you should prioritize on a given streaming service, it can feel almost impossible. Speaking for myself, I know that trying to pick a single thing to watch from among the vast array of titles available on services like Prime Video can feel almost impossible. What I often do, then, is pick something that won't be available for long. Prime Video has plenty of titles coming and going all the time, and if you're looking for one to watch this month, I'd start with To Live and Die in L.A. Here are three reasons you should check it out: Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on HBO Max, and the best movies on Disney+. It's a dark, moody action movie Although To Live and Die in L.A. is in some ways a standard cop action movie of the 1980s, in others it's much stranger and more nihilistic than that description makes it sound. The film follows a rogue cop who, after losing his partner to a master counterfeiter, becomes hellbent on revenge. As he pushes the boundaries of his job, we find ourselves wondering whether he's gone way too far in the pursuit of justice. It's a nervy movie that you might walk away from hating both the hero and the villain, which remains one of the reasons why it's aged well. It's rarely available to stream This is a slightly unusual reason, but one of the best reasons to check out To Live and Die in L.A. is that the movie is actually usually pretty hard to watch on streaming. This is a rare window where the movie's available, and given that it's one of the definitive action movies of the 1980s, it's well worth your time. Given the uncertainty of licensing rights, you can never tell when a movie is going to pop up on streaming and when it might disappear for years at a time. While streaming isn't the only way to watch movies, it's often the most convenient, so take advantage of this convenience while you can. It features Willem Dafoe at his villainous best While the entire ensemble of To Live and Die in L.A. is doing excellent work, the movie's true standout performer is almost undoubtedly Willem Dafoe, who plays the master counterfeiter. Dafoe is not known for playing nice guys, but his performance as the villain at the center of this movie is particularly unsettling because he's so cold and calculating. Dafoe can be big and hammy, but here, he underplays almost every scene in a way that makes him seem deeply real and just as malevolent as you would want him to be. We'd be better served, however, by understanding that at the core, both of these are fueled by and lead to dehumanization. Dr. Caroline Heldman, sociologist and author of The Sexy Lie, pointed out in a 2013 TEDx talk 'Hypersexualization and body-shaming are both mechanisms of control. One demands a woman to be 'sexy enough,' the other punishes her for being 'too much.' Either way, she loses.' Sexual objectification reinforces harmful stereotypes about women and contributes to a culture of gender inequality. It can also lead to low self-esteem and increase tolerance for sexist attitudes and violence against women. Body-shaming and hypersexualization often work together to reinforce harmful norms. They may appear opposite — one criticizes the body, the other puts it on display — but both diminish a person's selfhood or personhood to how they look. It's 2025, and we're still living in a culture that believes that inappropriate sexualization and criticism are the justifiable price that women should pay if they are visible to the public in any way. It's important to recognize that beliefs like these simply don't have any place in our society. Furthermore, they don't just harm the mental health of celebrities like Hewitt, they teach all women and girls that they can expect to be evaluated harshly if they step into the spotlight.
