You can stay, John Tavares, but only under certain conditions.

And Morgan Rielly, if you wouldn't mind considering waiving your no-move clause in the event that Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving asks you to do so.

The results of our off-season Leafs poll are in.

In having your say following another disappointing end to a Leafs season — this time against the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs — you think the Leafs and Marner should go their separate ways, Tavares should be retained on a team-friendly contract and Rielly should think about forgoing the final five years on his contract.

Change during the summer would include trying to sign impending free agents Sam Bennett and Brad Marchand, though Nikolaj Ehlers would also catch your interest when the market opens on July 1.

As for a couple of players who built their respective National Hockey League careers on achieving big-time success with the Chicago Blackhawks, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, you would take a pass.

He isn't bionic, but this Edmonton Oiler may still become The Six-Million-Dollar-Man: 9 Things

Article content The best thing that could happen for the Edmonton Oilers this season would be for their home-grown goaltender to develop into a true, consistent, reliable '1-A'. Article content If the Oilers can rebuild him, make him better than he was. Better, stronger, faster… Article content Article content Would Stuart Skinner then become the Oilers Six-Million Dollar Man? Article content Article content 9 Things Article content Article content 9. The Edmonton Oilers Leon Draisaitl has won the 2025 ESPY for Best NHL Player. The ESPYS celebrate excellence and achievements in sport. Too bad those judges did not also vote for the Hart Trophy. Article content 8. As we near the dog days of August, it is worth watching whether a PTO or three are secured in Edmonton. Sometimes, useful players just can not find the contract they are hoping for but are willing to work for one. Maybe a winger with some grit (Brett Leason, Klim Kostin) or an organizational LHS D-man (Jon Merrill)? 7. The Oilers dealt 2021 first rounder Xavier Bourgault to Ottawa last summer. This week, Bourgault inked a two-way, at the NHL minimum $775k with the Senators. The return for him was winger Roby Jarventie who played but two games in Bakersfield last season due to a knee injury. Jarventie has also signed a 1-year at the same AAV, reversing his original plans to go to Europe. Article content Article content 6. Scanning the Oilers 2025-26 NHL Regular Season Schedule, what Rogers Placer games leap out as must-sees from a fan standpoint? There is the home opener against Calgary October 8, the battle of Alberta can always be fun. It is always an event when the Leafs come to town, too, this year on February 3. Then, the Stanley Cup Finalists rematch March 19 (although Edmonton is in Sunrise November 22). Article content 5. He does not get much ink. But I think a dark horse player worth watching for the Edmonton Oilers this season is D-man Alec Regula. Claimed from the Boston Bruins on waivers, Regula did not play a game in 2024-25 due to structural knee damage. But he is healthy now, and originally a Stan Bowman draft pick. His 6'4 frame, right shot, hockey sense and offensive upside could challenge for a spot…especially if there is an injury. Article content 4. Speaking of guys 'bubbling under', watching F David Tomasek this fall should be interesting. He has spent the off-season in Prague rehabbing from an injury that prevented him from playing at World's. Tomasek will try to crack the Oilers lineup on a one-way deal in camp. He is a good faceoff man but I think it's more likely he plays wing in the NHL. Then there is the Olympics where Tomasek is a lock to play for the Czech squad. Tomasek nearly signed in Edmonton last year but ended up back in Sweden.

Sam Surridge ties Messi for MLS goals lead as Nashville blanks Toronto

(Photo credit: Steve Roberts-Imagn Images) Sam Surridge scored his MLS lead-tying 18th goal to push Nashville SC near the top of the Eastern Conference standings with a 1-0 victory over visiting Toronto FC on Saturday night. Surridge's first-half tally pulled him even with Lionel Messi, who scored his 17th and 18th goals earlier Saturday in Miami's 5-1 home win over the New York Red Bulls. The win ensured Nashville (14-5-5, 47 points) will finish the weekend no worse than second in the East, and first if Cincinnati fails to win its match at Real Salt Lake later Saturday. Nashville won their second straight and sixth out of seven, and have lost just once in their last 18 in all competitions dating back to April 26. Goalkeeper Sean Johnson made four saves to keep Toronto (5-12-6, 21 points) in the match, while Joe Willis kept his ninth clean sheet while not having to make a single stop. The Reds were shut out for the first time in six games, scoring in the last three despite the departure of Italian attacking stars Federico Bernardeschi and Lorenzo Insigne at the beginning of July. Two of Johnson's best stops came against 2022 MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar. The first of those came in the 28th minute when the German attacker unleashed a left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty box that appeared bound for the bottom right corner. Unfortunately for Johnson, the rebound of his fine sprawling stop rolled only as far as the feet of Surridge, who finished before the keeper could regain his footing to attempt a second save. Toronto thought they had a precious chance to level the score when referee Sergii Boiko ruled Walker Zimmerman had hauled down Deandre Kerr in the penalty area in the 60th minute. Boiko was summoned to the replay monitor, and after a review, it was ruled the foul had occurred fractionally outside the box, resulting in a direct free kick. Johnson had another exceptional one-on-one save on Mukhtar in the 79th minute. On the other end, Toronto got into a few promising positions late but failed to make Willis stop any of their seven total shots.
