WI vs AUS, 2nd Test: Jayden Seals balances scales after Australia dominate Day 2

India Today7 hours ago
Young West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales balanced the scales late on Day 2 of the 2nd Test match against Australia. Seales removed both Australian openers inside the first 6 overs of the second innings, helping the hosts bring back some sense of balance on a day that was dominated by the bowlers. The Pat Cummins-led Australian team bowled the Windies out for just 253 runs, 33 runs short of their first innings total of 286 runs. The West Indies innings lasted nearly a day on the spicy pitch of Grenada, which had ample help for the fast bowlers bowling with the new ball.advertisementKraigg Brathwaite was out for a duck in his first bat in his 100th Test, caught and bowled by Josh Hazlewood in the first over. Keacy Carty went the same way on 6 to Pat Cummins, and John Campbell wasted a good start of 40 when he skewed Beau Webster to mid-on.
It took Brandon King's maiden Test half-century and the tailenders' 73 invaluable runs for the West Indies to get close to Australia's 286.The West Indies were 174-7 after Lunch, still more than 100 behind, but the batters from 8 to 11 — notably Alzarri and Shamar Joseph — frustrated the Australians for 25 overs.King and captain Roston Chase, who took 18 balls to get off the mark, rebuilt West Indies from 64-3 to a confident 110-3 by Lunch. Chase was out straight after Lunch, trapped on 16 by Hazlewood after Australia reviewed. But King lofted Hazlewood for six over square leg, then his seventh boundary brought up his 50 off 77 balls, his first 50 in his second Test and West Indies' first 50 in the series. The batter waltzed down the track to hit Lyon for another couple of sixes as his partnership with Shai Hope began to flourish. But Cummins ended their 58-run stand when he bowled Hope on 21, and King fell in the next over nicking Lyon behind. King laboured for 75 off 108 balls with eight boundaries and three sixes.A third wicket in four overs, Justin Greaves, tumbled West Indies to 174-7.But the Josephs made it to Tea and kept going for 51 runs together. Alzarri scored 27 and Shamar 29. Last pair Anderson Phillip and Seales resisted for another nearly 11 overs for 16 runs. All six Australia bowlers took wickets; Lyon led with 3-75.Seales Rips Into Australia OpenersThe Australian top order has been a matter of discussion since their home Test series against India. Young seamer Jayden Seales ripped out the opening batters to reduce Australia's second innings to 12-2 and lead over West Indies to 45 runs on Day 2 of the second Test on Friday.advertisementThe hosts made it as hostile as possible and preyed on Australia's nervous top order. An absolute plumb ball goes up for review! OUT!!#WIvAUS #FullAhEnergy pic.twitter.com/ip1wRDqvPl— Windies Cricket (@windiescricket) July 4, 2025Seales bowled Sam Konstas for a duck in the first over and almost claimed Cameron Green on the next ball. Green barely fended off Seales and was fortunate the ball dropped in front of second slip. Seales then got a nip-backer to trap Usman Khawaja plumb on 2. Khawaja's video review showed it was going to hit middle stump.Nathan Lyon came in as the nightwatchman and he and Green just made it to Stumps.- Ends

ENG vs IND 2nd Test Day 4 Session 1: Pant rides luck to maul English attack

India, despite losing their overnight batters KL Rahul (55) and Karun Nair (26), are still pretty much in control of the match after finishing the first session with the scoreboard reading 177 for 3 and their lead at 357 runs. India started the day in a steady manner with the overnight score at 64 for 1. The pair of KL Rahul and Karun Nair got occasional boundaries off Brendon Crase, who continued to try different lines in each over, while keeping things simple off Chris Woakes, who had a few big appeals only to be denied by the umpire. Unexpectedly, Brendon Crase was the one who finally got the first breakthrough of the day by getting Karun Nair (26) caught behind by Jamie Smith. A few overs later, England took an LBW appeal against Shubman Gill, who came out to bat after Nair. But just like the review taken against him in the first innings, Gill survived due to an inside edge. Amidst all the commotion, KL Rahul silently kept ticking the scoreboard with cautious shots and finally went on to bring up his 18th Test half-century in 78 deliveries. But his innings came to a close after adding just five more to his total, as he was dismissed for 55 by Josh Tongue, with England continuing to crawl back into the game. But then arrived Pant, who in his first five balls scored a four and a six to put the pressure back on England. He was also dropped by Crawley in the very next over off Stokes. Pant continued to attack, adding quick runs for India, sending a wave of frustration through the English camp. He got another lifeline on 31 after Woakes dropped his catch, as India crossed the 100-run mark in the session. India ended up adding 113 runs in the session to extend their lead to 357 runs. They will have in-form Rishabh Pant (41 not out) and Shubman Gill (24 not out) still at the crease when they return for the second session of the day, looking for quick runs. India's tour of Bangladesh postponed; BCCI issues statement

India vs Bangladesh (PTI Photo) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have officially agreed to postpone India's white-ball tour of Bangladesh, originally scheduled for August 2025. The series, comprising three One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals, has now been deferred to September 2026. In a statement released on Saturday, the BCCI said, 'The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals, between Bangladesh and India in August 2025 to September 2026. "This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. Poll Do you agree with the decision to postpone the India-Bangladesh white-ball series? Yes, it was the right move. No, it should have gone ahead as planned. "The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course." 'Jay Shah Deserves Credit for How He Ran BCCI' | Arun Dhumal on BCCI's Commitment & Leadership The decision follows weeks of speculation, especially as the tour, part of the ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP), was due to begin on August 17 in Dhaka. Diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh have risen since the political upheaval that saw former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ousted in August 2024. These developments, alongside logistical and security concerns, appear to have played a role in the postponement. While India last hosted Bangladesh in a red- and white-ball series in late 2024, the upcoming white-ball series was eagerly anticipated as Bangladesh's opportunity to host a full-strength Indian side again.
