Who's representing Iowa football at 2025 Big Ten Media Days?

USA Today7 hours ago
Now that we're into the month of July, Big Ten football season is right around the corner. But before each team hits the gridiron next month, they'll send representatives to Las Vegas, Nevada for Big Ten Media Days.
Big Ten Media Days will take place over three days this year, spanning July 22-24, with six teams speaking each day. Fans will have to wait until the final day, July 24, to hear Kirk Ferentz and his three team representatives talk about the 2025 season. Iowa joins Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, UCLA and USC as the six teams to speak on the final day.

Ferentz is going veteran heavy with his representatives this year, bringing along junior Koen Entringer, sixth-year Logan Jones and sixth-year Ethan Hurkett. And by looking at each player's time in Iowa City, it's easy to see why Ferentz chose these three players.
Entringer, a 6-foot-0 207-pound safety from Ypsilanti, Michigan, played in 12 games last season for the Hawkeyes. He made the first start of his career against Michigan State. In 2024, Entringer had 18 total tackles, one interception and one pass break-up. He figures to start at safety for Iowa this season.
Jones, a 6-foot-3 260-pound center from Council Bluffs, Iowa, has had a storied career with the Hawks so far. He's start 38 games in his career at center, earning a first-team All-Big Ten nod from the media and a second-team All-Big Ten selection from the coaches last season. Entering 2025, Jones is a Walter Camp preseason second-team All-American player.
Hurkett, a 6-foot-3 260-pound defensive lineman from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is coming off his best season as a Hawkeye. He was named an honorable mention All-Big Ten player by both the coaches and media after a 2024 season where he had 56 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, six and a half sacks and three forced fumbles. Entering 2025, Hurkett was named an Athlon Sports second-team All-Big Ten player.
Hawkeye fans will be curious to hear what those three players and Kirk Ferentz have to say at Big Ten Media Days. And when those are done, it'll almost be time to return to Kinnick Stadium for a brand new season of Iowa football.

Previewing the 2025 season for Texas A&M DB Dalton Brooks with his player profile

As we gear up for the 2025 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player's background, their recruiting rankings upon graduating from high school, and their projected role under head coach Mike Elko. Dalton Brooks has seen a fair amount of action since arriving at A&M in 2023. As a sophomore, he played in all 13 games, starting eight. He showed great promise and brought the kind of enforcer qualities you want in a safety, adding attitude to the back end of the defense. With a nose for the ball, Brooks recorded 59 tackles in his second season, ranking second on the team behind Taurean York. He also posted 5.5 tackles for loss (TFL), placing fifth on the roster. Brooks evokes memories of hard-hitting safety Donovan Wilson, now with the Dallas Cowboys, who once set the tone for A&M's secondary. Expect Brooks to have an expanded role this season as Coach Elko keeps a close eye on the defense. Preseason Player Profile Recruiting Rankings (Class of 2024) The former four-star prospect was a highly recruited athlete who excelled in both football and track. He helped Shiner High to back-to-back state titles and had a standout senior season, rushing for over 2,500 yards and 36 touchdowns, while adding 120 tackles and two interceptions. Brooks was a two-time MVP in high school before committing to Texas A&M. Depth Chart Outlook The safety position remains fluid, with multiple players experiencing highs and lows throughout the season. Having started eight games in 2024, Brooks enters 2025 with a strong opportunity to claim a starting role in the defensive backfield. Bears Predicted to Land Star Divisional Rival Defender in Free Agency

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Chicago Bears have a brand-new coaching staff led by former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Johnson has the tall task of taking a 5-12 team and leading them to a positive record and playoff berth. More news: Aaron Rodgers Hosts Private Workout With Steelers Offense While the Bears have a solid team, they still have a huge lack on the defensive end side of things. Dayo Odeyingbo and Montez Sweat are solid players, but not enough to make believers out of fans and pundits. The Bears' defense was one of the worst in 2025 in allowing rushing yards, with the league's fifth-worst, allowing 136.6 yards per game on the ground. The pass rush was dead center, allowing 217.9 yards per game in the passing category. DETROIT, MICHIGAN - JANUARY 18: Defensive end Za'Darius Smith #99 of the Detroit Lions rushes the passer during the first half of the NFC Divisional Playoff game against the Washington Commanders, at Ford Field on January 18, 2025 in Detroit, Michigan. MoreMore news: Fans React to Minkah Fitzpatrick Training Video Ahead of Dolphins Return Simply put, the Bears need pass rushers, and they did not acquire anyone new during free agency. That means they could go for a proven veteran, and may look to none other than a divisional rival. NFL insider Albert Breer not only predicted the Bears may address their pass rush woes, but also indicated they could target former Detroit Lions star Za'Darius Smith. "I think that's all relative to what's out there. So they'll get a look at D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson at running back, and Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo (who plays some inside on passing downs) on the edges when the pads go on, and then maybe consider guys such as Jamaal Williams at running back or Za'Darius Smith or Matthew Judon as edge rushers," Breer wrote. Smith would be a solid contributor and a clear upgrade. He secured nine sacks with the Lions and Cleveland Browns in 2024, but was released by the Lions in March. It is a bit strange that he has not been picked up by any team, and it is believed that he won't wait long to join a new team. Granted, the Bears might want to see what their defense can do in training camp and preseason, but if the pass rush is not where it needs to be, they might choose to call Smith and see if they can strike a deal with the All-Pro. Newly promoted defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard needs to evaluate the group during training camp, and improving the pass rush and defensive end situation should be at the top of the list in terms of red flag issues. Smith is also a consummate pro and would be valuable to any roster. The Bears signing him after his time with the Lions would be fantastic.
