Bengals owner expresses optimism in Trey Hendrickson contract saga: ‘We will get it done'

New York Post8 hours ago
The Trey Hendrickson contract saga with the Bengals could finally be close to the finish line.
Bengals owner Mike Brown spoke to the media Monday about the ongoing contract drama between the team and its All-Pro edge rusher on the eve of mandatory training camp.
'We will get it done at some point, I think,' Brown told reporters. 'I think we are in a good spot. I hope this thing comes together soon.'

Hendrickson is currently under a one-year, $15.8 million contract — much to his displeasure.
The 30-year-old led the NFL last season with 17.5 sacks, was named First Team All-Pro and was second in Defensive Player of the Year voting, only behind Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II.
Hendrickson has had at least 13.5 sacks in four of his last five seasons and has made the Pro Bowl for four straight seasons.
The All-Pro edge rusher has been outspoken about his desire for a new contract, and Steelers edge rusher TJ Watt's record-breaking three-year, $123 million extension last week certainly added fuel to Hendrickson's fire.
4 Trey Hendrickson has totaled 35 sacks across the last two seasons.

Hendrickson has criticized the Bengals' lack of communication, expressed unwillingness to play under his current deal and skipped voluntary workouts. His decision to miss mandatory minicamp in June resulted in fines totaling more than $100,000.
But as badly as Hendrickson wants his new contract, Brown would like to retain the superstar.
'We are not going to trade Trey. We are working on getting it done,' he said.

Clearly, one side will have to budge.
'We've been through a few — and he pushes hard, he gets emotional,' Brown said of the negotiations with Hendrickson. 'We never have an easy time of it. And if there's one thing that is consistent, it always gets done. I think this one will too.'
While Cincinnati has awarded long-term deals to quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the contract disputes with defenders appear to be becoming a theme.
4 Hendrickson spoke to reporters in May about his contract dispute.
AP
Bengals draft pick and fellow defensive end Shemar Stewart is the only first-rounder still unsigned since the 2025 NFL Draft in April.
'He needs to be here. I would encourage him to be here,' Bengals executive Duke Tobin said. 'He's listening to the advice he's paying for (from his agents). I don't understand the advice … We're treating him fairly.'

Terry McLaurin Considering Holdout or Trade Request From Washington Commanders

Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders are set to embark on what should be a thrilling season. While they have sky-high expectations after reaching the NFC Championship Game last season, that means each individual will have to give a maximum effort to accomplish their goals. Unfortunately, things are getting off to a bit of a rocky start as Commanders training camp kicks off. According to Fox Sports' Henry McKenna, McLaurin is keeping all of his options open when it comes to his future in Washington. The two-time Pro Bowl receiver rightfully wants a new deal since he's heading into a contract year. He'd prefer to get that contract from the Commanders so he can continue being Jayden Daniels' top target. However, as McKenna tells it, McLaurin really just wants to get paid. As a result, McLaurin is reportedly even willing to consider holding out from training camp in an effort to gain more leverage during contract negotiations. Otherwise, he may be prepared to demand a trade out of D.C. 'If necessary, McLaurin will explore every option, including a holdout, a hold-in and a trade request, per the source. 'Everything will be on the table,' the source told me. But McLaurin is taking things day-by-day in hopes of hearing more from the Commanders, who have not talked to him about his contract in weeks — even after he spoke out about his dissatisfaction.' McKenna on McLaurin While the Commanders acquired Deebo Samuel this offseason, he was intended to be a complementary weapon that helps take attention away from McLaurin, not replace him. Yet, when Commanders training camp kicks off, it's possible Samuel will be the top target on the field. Lakers to sign Christian Koloko, Chris Manon to two-way contracts

After getting former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart to agree to sign a two-year contract, the Los Angeles Lakers made a couple more minor roster moves on Monday. During NBA summer league play, they got a look at some of their young players. Guard Bronny James, after a slow start, put forth some promising play on both ends of the court, and forward Darius Bazley played some high-energy basketball until he suffered a leg injury in the team's penultimate game. On Monday, the Lakers decided to sign center Christian Koloko and wing Chris Manon to two-way contracts. Koloko was with them during summer league play, while Manon suited up for the Golden State Warriors. Koloko was a second-round draft pick in 2022 after three seasons at the University of Arizona. He missed all of the 2022-23 season due to a blood clot issue, and in 37 games with the Lakers this past season, he averaged 2.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.4 blocks in 9.2 minutes a game. While in the G League, he put up 14.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per contest. He had originally signed with L.A. on a two-way contract last summer. Manon, who went undrafted in last month's NBA draft, averaged 11.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.4 steals in 18.1 minutes a game during the Las Vegas summer league. He isn't a 3-point shooting threat, but at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, he hustles and plays hard on the defensive end and has a strong motor. On Sunday, the Lakers waived guard Jordan Goodwin, whom they had called up from the G League at midseason. Perhaps Manon will essentially be Goodwin's replacement as far as a high-motor wing they will look to develop.

NFL Fans Trashing Steelers' New Uniforms For 2025 Season

NFL Fans Trashing Steelers' New Uniforms For 2025 Season originally appeared on The Spun. After scrapping their Bumblebee uniforms back in 2018, the Pittsburgh Steelers are now reaching back to a similar era with their new throwbacks set to debut this year. On Monday, the team officially unveiled the first look at its 1933-inspired threads that call back to the beginning days of the franchise with gold helmets, gold jerseys with black stripes and large block lettering; along with the City of Pittsburgh crest on the left shoulder and beige pants. The uniforms will reportedly be worn in the team's "Sunday Night Football" matchup vs. the Green Bay Packers this October after last making an appearance in the mid-'90s. It didn't take long for fans to give their (mostly negative) opinions online. "I am issuing a full apology to the Chargers yellow jerseys, it could always be worse," a user said. "Are these the jerseys from Batman?" another person asked. "Ngl this is hideous," a fan commented. "🗑️" "maybe the worst thing ive ever seen," Zach Frydenlund posted. "So cool of the Steelers to pay tribute to the Gotham City Rogues." "This is ….. something," a Chiefs account replied. "these are so incredibly ugly I cannot believe any person with a functioning brain signed off on these," another user admitted. "These should be illegal." There haven't been a lot of changes to the Steelers uniforms over the years. So when they do decide to throw it back, it's usually to a bygone era like the 1930s when the team's look was more... colorful. Should Pittsburgh have brought these back? Or are these ones that could've stayed in the archives?NFL Fans Trashing Steelers' New Uniforms For 2025 Season first appeared on The Spun on Jul 21, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 21, 2025, where it first appeared.
