When it comes to the marketing side of things, T-Mobile is extremely active these days. If you're into golf at least as much as President Trump, then you're going to love the latest news coming directly from the Un-carrier.

Throughout the course of the event, PGA of America will use technology from T-Mobile 5G Advanced Network Solutions (ANS) like network slicing and T-Mobile 5G on Demand, the carrier's 5G portable private network, to offer golf fans, broadcasters and staff new ways to experience the tournament through 5G innovations. Here is what those planning to attend the sports event will be able to experience: Immersive, mixed-reality broadcast
Real-time connection to every shot
Streamlined course operations
Exclusive customer experiences
T-Mobile customers can enjoy VIP treatment with Magenta Status | Image credit: T-Mobile CBS Sports and ESPN will debut T5G on 14 at the event, a broadcast feature that combines augmented reality with AI-generated data into an immersive virtual map visualization of hole performance, club speed and swing analysis of each shot. According to T-Mobile , its 5G on Demand portable private network will help deliver full HDR footage in an attempt to bring fans closer to the game in a new and dynamic way.
Also, this year's PGA Championship will be the first event where every swing shown on broadcast will be analyzed in real-time using artificial intelligence and notifications of highlight-worthy shots will be delivered as a Roar Moment video highlight.
Last but not least, T-Mobile customers heading to the course can enjoy VIP treatment with Magenta Status all weekend long at Club Magenta, T-Mobile 's premium lounge offering amazing views of the 10th green, plus surprise appearances from special guests including Max Homa, Wyndham Clark, Bryce Young and Jordan Davis, along with limited edition merch, free phone charging, drinks and more.

It's official! T-Mobile swallows another wireless provider

T-Mobile officially closed Friday on its latest purchase as 4 million UScellular customers now belong to T-Mobile and can experience what Ookla called "the best mobile network" in the U.S. Consumers in UScellular's coverage area who were unable to subscribe for high-speed connectivity eventually will be able to join T-Mobile 's in-home broadband service. But the advantages aren't all going to former UScellular customers. T-Mobile said on Friday that its customers who find themselves in UScellular's former coverage areas will benefit from enhanced network coverage. That's because, as part of the transaction, T-Mobile gets spectrum once owned by the carrier that was the fifth largest in the U.S. UScellular customers will enjoy a seamless transition to the T-Mobile network and should notice performance improvements right away starting from the first day. Nearly all UScellular customer devices will continue to work on the T-Mobile network. T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert shows off a smile. | Image credit-T-Mobile UScellular customers are being permitted to stay on their existing plans for now. But once networks and systems become integrated, these customers will be able to select from one of T-Mobile 's unlimited plans to join. Once on a T-Mobile plan, these customers will have the opportunity to add great features to their unlimited plans and enjoy such outstanding streaming services such as Netflix, AppleTV+, and UScellular customers moving to a T-Mobile unlimited plan will be allowed to roam internationally in over 215 countries and destinations free, view free in-flight Wi-Fi, take advantage of built-in device upgrades, and more. UScellular customers could decide to move up to one of the Experience plans, which include T-Satellite. This benefit automatically connects T-Mobile subscribers' phones with a Starlink satellite in areas where there is no cellular service. Users are currently limited to sending and receiving text messages and sharing their location via their phones' messaging app. Picture and voice messaging via satellite is also being pushed out now by T-Mobile . The carrier says that next, satellite data from optimized apps will be available. Eventually, users will be able to make and take calls via satellite. Former UScellular subscribers can also decide to choose a T-Mobile plan made for first responders, teachers, and Seniors (those 55 and older). The final totals for the deal show that T-Mobile acquired practically all of UScellular's wireless operations for $4.3 billion after final adjustments were made. T-Mobile paid $2.6 billion in cash and will assume responsibilities for approximately $1.7 billion in UScellular debt. T-Mobile will take over responsibility for this debt following an exchange offer made to UScellular debtholders, which is expected to close on August 5, 2025. The UScellular brand will transition in phases to T-Mobile . Before or during its third quarter earnings call, T-Mobile will release a statement about how the transaction will affect the company financially. As we told you late last month, UScellular will get a new name and NYSE ticker symbol. Array Digital Infrastructure Inc. is the new name, and AD is the new stock symbol. The company will now manage two portfolios; one consists of cell towers, and the other consists of spectrum. Now that the UScellular deal has closed, it joins some other recent acquisitions made by T-Mobile . Last year, the carrier picked up MVNO Mint Mobile, which was part-owned by actor Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds also came up with Mint's humor-based ad campaigns which still run to this day. Also announced last year, T-Mobile picked up another MVNO, Ultra Mobile. The Mint Mobile closing took place on May 1st, 2024, while the Ultra Mobile transaction closed on the very same day. Of course, the largest deal closed by T-Mobile was the $26.5 billion acquisition of Sprint, which closed on April 1st, 2020. Before that deal, T-Mobile bought MVNO MetroPCS, with that transaction closing on May 1, 2013.

New T-Mobile commercial praising Verizon will help T-Mobile in the end

Over 20 years ago, when the time came for me to pick a wireless provider, I wanted the carrier that had the best coverage and was the most reliable. Back then, the choice was easy. Verizon was more expensive than the rest, but you would get what you paid for. With two children, I wanted to make sure that I'd be able to get in touch with them whenever I called. In 2005, Verizon had the best wireless network in the U.S. The T-Mobile of 2005 had absolutely no resemblance to the T-Mobile of today. Led by the EDGE platform, dubbed 2.5G, it would be another three years before T-Mobile customers would get to experience the huge speed increase and improvement in features available with 3G service. The man who would be considered T-Mobile 's savior when he became president and CEO of the company 10 years later, John Legere, was in the process of turning around Global Crossing. The latter is a multinational telecommunications company that was coming out of bankruptcy. T-Mobile 's advertising campaign back in 2005 did not call T-Mobile the "un-Carrier as that name would debut under Legere. The carrier did focus its advertising on teens due to the success of T-Mobile 's Sidekick device. The Sidekick II was released in 2004, and in 2006 the Sidekick 3 was launched. The device had a swiveling screen, a full QWERTY keyboard, and integrated instant messaging and email capabilities. As a messaging device, the Sidekick was a huge hit. On the opposite side of the spectrum was Verizon , whose network was considered the most reliable with the fewest dropped calls. However, Verizon 's plans were more expensive than T-Mobile 's. Back in 2005, if you wanted to have your phone connected to the most reliable cell service, you signed up with Verizon and paid more for that reliability. Verizon was considered to have the best wireless service in the U.S., a title it owned for many years. Legere was named president and CEO of T-Mobile in September 2012 and he immediately helped to turn around T-Mobile with his splashy, pro-consumer un-Carrier announcements. The first one, announced in 2013, got rid of subsidized phones and two-year contracts. In 2016, T-Mobile announced the T-Mobile Tuesdays customer reward program, which has been a huge hit with customers. Another un-Carrier perk gave subscribers free Netflix streaming. Legere's brash comments knocking the competition also caught the attention of young consumers who were soon moving to T-Mobile in droves. By August 2020, T-Mobile , at one time dead last among the four major U.S. carriers, was number two behind only Verizon. T-Mobile was the first to recognize the importance of having mid-band spectrum for 5G use. | Image credit-T-Mobile A poor decision made by AT&T and Verizon and a brilliant one made by T-Mobile turned around the U.S. wireless market. Verizon and AT&T decided to start building out their 5G networks with millimeter wave spectrum (mmWave), the airwaves that deliver the fastest download data speeds. But what Verizon and AT&T didn't take into account is that mmWave airwaves only travel short distances. This could prolong the time and expense of building out their 5G networks. T-Mobile had a different plan and that was to use mid-band spectrum to build its 5G network. While mid-band 5G isn't as fast as mmWave, it is still much faster than the low-band 5G used for nationwide 5G networks. While mid-band spectrum may not travel as far as low-band, it travels longer distances than mmWave. As a result, T-Mobile decided to build out its 5G network using mid-band spectrum which became known as the Goldilocks of 5G. It just so happened that there was a place where T-Mobile could buy a ton of 2.5GHz mid-band spectrum, perfect for 5G. It didn't come cheap, and it wasn't easy. But when T-Mobile purchased Sprint for $26.1 billion, the transaction included a large amount of 2.5GHz spectrum that T-Mobile used to build out its 5G network. Officially named by Speedtest as the best network in America, it was time for T-Mobile to let the public know that Verizon no longer owned that title. T-Mobile recently ran a television commercial that starts by acknowledging the past and promoting the current. "For years, everyone thought Verizon had the best network. Because they did," starts the ad. But the commercial points out that according to "some fancy experts, that title now belongs to T-Mobile ." Current T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert recently made it clear during a recent earnings call that T-Mobile is going after Verizon subscribers. If those who signed up with Verizon because it had the best network in America at one time start switching to T-Mobile because it now has the best network in the U.S., it might not be much longer before T-Mobile does something that seemed impossible years ago, which is to surpass Verizon and become the nation's top wireless carrier.

Nintendo sold almost 6 million Switch 2 units in less than a month

The Switch 2 continues to be a very successful product for Nintendo. Following over 3.5 million units sold in the first week, Nintendo has now announced that it's sold 5.82 million units by the end of June. That's almost a full month of availability, and the number is more than double what the original Switch managed in its first month on the market - 2.7 million units sold. Nintendo says demand for the Switch 2 is still exceeding supply "in many countries", and regrets the inconvenience this is causing. It's promised to increase production to match demand everywhere. The Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling game console of all time. The Switch 2's success has driven a 132% rise in quarterly revenue for Nintendo in Q2 (April to June), up to $3.8 billion, compared to Q2 2024 (around $1.6 billion). The company is forecasting 15 million Switch 2 units sold by the end of March next year. It remains to be seen how US tariffs may or may not impact that, as the Trump administration has just announced a 20% tariff on imports from Vietnam, where the Switch 2 is manufactured (up from 10% before).
