Lakers Insider Shuts Down Andrew Wiggins Trade Rumors
Amid the rebuild around Luka Doncic, one of the key positions the Lakers have to fill in their roster this offseason is an athletic wing who can also defend well. A few days ago, rumors suggested the Lakers could be looking at the former NBA champion Andrew Wiggins to fill that role.

Subsequently, the Lakers' Insider for The Athletic, Dan Woike, appeared on the Zach Lowe Show and confirmed with certainty that the Lakers are out of any potential trade discussions for Wiggins.
Lowe: '…. the Lakers have, I guess, sniffed around Wiggins. I didn't really understand any of those trade rumors.'
Woike: 'They're not, they're not interested in Andrew Wiggins. I think I can put that to bed. I'm pretty confident in that. Let's pretend they have.'
Lowe: 'I didn't get. I've already said on my podcast that I didn't understand what those rumors like they were suddenly giving up like a lot of sh** for Andrew Wiggins. It's like, isn't Rui Hachimura just as good as Andrew Wiggins? Like, why am I adding a lot more to that? I like Hachimura.'

Earlier this offseason, it was reported that the Heat had made their demands clear on what they expect the Lakers to give up in a trade that brought Andrew Wiggins to LA.
According to Lakers insider Jovan Buha, the Heat has set a steep asking price for Wiggins. The Heat are reportedly demanding Dalton Knecht, Rui Hachimura, and a future first-round pick in exchange for the 30-year-old Canadian forward.
Wiggins was traded to the Heat in a February move that sent Jimmy Butler to the Warriors. In the 60 games he played this season, he averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, while shooting 44.8% from the field and 37.4% from beyond the three-point line.
While Wiggins is a potentially strong fit alongside Luka Doncic, Woike has confirmed that the rumors are baseless and we should not expect to see the Lakers make any moves for Wiggins. They had only reportedly inquired about him, but never intended to make an offer once the asking price was revealed.

The Lakers are looking for an athletic wing to replace the role that Dorian Finney-Smith played on their roster this season, or what P.J. Washington did for the Mavericks in their 2024 NBA Finals run.
The Lakers will potentially follow the same blueprint that the Mavericks did to build a roster around Doncic, but one of the biggest issues in doing that in the coming season itself is LeBron James. James picked up a $52.6 million player option this summer, which represents 34.66% of the Lakers' total salary cap space.
According to Trevor Lane, who states Dan Woike as his source, the Lakers will not look to take on any long-term contracts in a potential trade for James as they look to free up cap space for 2026-27. This puts teams like the Clippers and Heat in a unique position to make lucrative offers to the Lakers as they have the necessary expiring contracts to make an offer worth the Lakers' consideration keeping their demands in mind.
While no trades have yet been discussed for either Wiggins or James, I can see a future where there is a possibility that the Heat and Lakers come up with a trade package that brings Wiggins to LA and potentially reunites James with the Heat. If the Heat are willing to take the albatross of LeBron James from around the Lakers' neck, then they may consider making the move for Wiggins.

Rep. Jim Jordan may be deposed over OSU sex abuse scandal
Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan could be deposed over allegations he knew about the sexual assaults perpetrated by Ohio State University Dr. Richard Strauss but failed to protect the student wrestlers, according to a report. Jordan, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, served as the assistant coach for the wrestling team from 1978 to 1998. Students discussed their alleged assaults with Jordan and other staff members, according to claims made in a civil suit brought by dozens of former students against the school. The Congressman, who is not a defendant in the case, may be deposed as soon as Friday, four plaintiffs told NBC News. A lawyer for the plaintiffs confirmed to The Independent that Jordan is scheduled to be deposed. Jordan has repeatedly denied any involvement in the alleged cover-up. 'As everyone knows, Chairman Jordan never saw or heard of any abuse, and if he had, he would have dealt with it,' Russell Dye, a spokesperson for Jordan, told The Independent. Ritchie claimed Jordan addressed these rumors directly with his athletes, telling them: 'If he ever did that to me, I'd snap his neck like a stick of dry balsa wood.' Mike DiSabato, who wrestled for Jordan and was the first to launch allegations against Strauss, told NBC News that he expects the Ohio Republican to 'triple down' on his denials. 'I assume he's going to triple down and follow the same script he followed back in 2018 when he went on Fox and denied knowing about any abuse, denied being told of any abuse, never heard the word 'abuse,'' DiSabato told the outlet. Steve Snyder-Hill, a former OSU student who alleges abuse by Strauss, recalled in the documentary: 'Somebody asked me one time, they said, 'Are you a survivor or are you a victim?' He reflected: 'I had to think about that, and I thought, you know what? I'm a survivor of sexual assault, but I'm a victim of OSU.' He plans to watch the deposition Friday, he told NBC News. 'I expect him to lie under oath,' Snyder-Hill said of Jordan. 'I don't know a nicer way to put it.' Jordan's locker was very close to Strauss so Snyder-Hill doubts Jordan's claims that he didn't know what was going on. Snyder-Hill told the outlet: 'That's hard to believe.' Since the initial investigations emerged, the university has paid more than $60 million in settlement money to nearly 300 survivors. Michael V. Drake, who served as OSU president when the scandal broke and the investigations began, issued a statement on behalf of the school at the time apologizing 'to each person who endured Strauss' abuse.' He said: 'Our institution's fundamental failure at the time to prevent this abuse was unacceptable – as were the inadequate efforts to thoroughly investigate complaints raised by students and staff members.'

The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team. Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2024, questions they face and their roster outlook. Next up is offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum. Kelvin Beachum background, 2024 season Beachum, now 36 years old, enters his 14th NFL season and his sixth with the Cardinals. He was drafted in the seventh round in 2012 by the Pittsburgh Steelers and has started 161 games in his career. He has been a starter for almost his entire career, appearing in 189 total games. After four years with the Steelers, a season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and three with the New York Jets, he signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals in 2020. Almost exclusively a left tackle for the first eight years of his career, he became the Cardinals' starting right tackle. After that first season, he re-signed for two seasons and was their starting right tackle for another two seasons. In 2023, he signed a two-year deal again to return but moved into a backup role. He started the final two games of the year at left tackle after D.J. Humphries tore his ACL. In 2024, after Paris Johnson, who replaced Beachum as the starting right tackle in 2023, moved to the left side, Jonah Williams was signed to start, but Beachum ended up starting 12 games between left tackle and right tackle as Williams missed 11 games with a knee injury and Johnson missed the final three, also injuring his knee.
