Eddie Howe confident Alexander Isak will stay at Newcastle as he misses friendly
Isak went home as the rest of the squad returned from an Austrian training camp on Friday but he was never earmarked to play in Glasgow.
The 25-year-old, who pulled out of Sweden's friendly double header last month because of a groin injury, has been linked with a potential move to Liverpool this summer and, more recently, with Saudi club Al-Hilal.
Howe is desperate to keep the forward, who netted 27 goals last season.

Asked to explain the absence of Isak and Joelinton after the 4-0 defeat, Howe said: 'Both players are fit but we just felt they weren't ready to play.
'Joe's coming back from a long injury, so we need to make sure when he's introduced he's ready.
'Alex has trained this week and is fine but we didn't want to take the risk with him. Alex was with us all the way through Austria but, with all the speculation and things that are going on, I decided to send him home.
'It's purely the last thing Alex wants, if he's not playing, to be sat in the stand. Being under that scrutiny, I don't think that's fair to the player.'
Howe declared there had been no formal approach for Isak this summer but added: 'It's difficult for me to give 100% clarity on any player. I'd never sit here and do that because it's football and you never know what could happen.
'All I can say is that Alex is happy at Newcastle. He loves the players that he plays with, the staff, the team.
'I've never had any issue with him other than really enjoying seeing his talent and seeing him express himself. Certainly I'm confident that he's going to be here at the start of the season.
'Your top players are so hard to find, they're so hard to recruit, they're so hard to develop and make them into those players. So when you have them, you need to treasure them.
'We certainly and the staff, recognise his talent and his ability. We're of course desperate to keep him part of our team.
'Alex has been really good and he's trained really well so far this season. So I know there'll be lots of noise around it and I can't really control that but from inside, he's been really good.'

Ireland legend opens up on Serie A opportunity and why the move didn't happen
Jason McAteer has hailed Evan Ferguson's switch to Roma - and revealed that he was once so close to a big Serie A move of his own that he spent four months learning Italian. The Ireland legend was at his childhood team Liverpool at the time, when a call came in from Italy. Serie A giants Sampdoria were tracking the Boys in Green star and were all set to swoop at the end of the 1997/98 campaign. Then, disaster struck. A broken leg against Blackburn Rovers in January 1998 put an end to their interest, and McAteer stayed at Anfield until the following January, when he moved to Ewood Park. 'The Italian league was really fashionable,' McAteer recalled, speaking to MirrorSport with William Hill Vegas. 'I know the money came into the Premier League and you had the influx of foreign players and foreign managers. 'It was very lucrative to come to the Premier League. But there was still an attraction to go to Italy. 'When I was at Liverpool, I got a phone call from an agent in Italy asking me if I wanted to go to Sampdoria. I kind of was flattered. Put it this way, I started learning Italian. 'They were on the phone all the time, just checking in with me and making sure I was alright, and (asking) what I was doing at the end of the season. 'And then I broke my leg playing for Liverpool against Blackburn, and they went in a different direction. 'Whether it had come to them actually making a bid, I don't know whether that happened. 'But if I was given the opportunity to go, I don't know, because I was at Liverpool, so it would have been extremely flattering. 'Sampdoria at the time had a record of players coming over - Graeme Souness, David Platt - so it was a very, very fashionable move. 'They probably would have been able to compete with the wages back then. But I don't know whether my heart would have let me go.' Sampdoria weren't the only big continental outfit to register their interest in McAteer, the man whose goal against the Netherlands put Ireland on course for qualification to the 2002 World Cup. 'I had the opportunity as well… my agent was talking to Sevilla when I left Blackburn (in October 2001),' said McAteer, who ended up going to Sunderland. 'I don't know whether the wages put them off, I don't know what happened, but the deal broke down. 'I do look back on my career and think, once I left Liverpool it would have been nice to go abroad, it would have been nice to learn a different language, to live a different culture, to see football in a different way. 'But unfortunately it didn't quite happen. 'There were not as many opportunities for my generation as there are now. But still there were offers, there were situations that might have grown legs, but they just didn't.' McAteer does occasionally wonder 'what if', so he is delighted to see Ferguson join the growing group of Irish youngsters plying their trade outside of the traditional UK scene. 'Sampdoria and Sevilla were huge clubs, and obviously I was flattered,' he said. 'I have no idea… like I said, I broke my leg. The phone calls stopped and I ended up stopping my Italian lessons. 'But I was enjoying it, I was really enjoying learning Italian. 'I'd like to pick it up again. I probably did it for about four months. I had a decent go at it, I had a private tutor. 'Saying my name and asking for some lunch was what I had in the bag. A few swear words too! 'Gazzetta Football was on, James Richardson, Gazza was out in Lazio, and there was this fashion about the Italians and the way they played football. 'A lot of big players were there. In '94 as well, we were playing in the Giants Stadium against Italy; Baggio, Donnadoni, Baresi… all of those big names.' As for Ferguson, he said: 'Obviously he's had his injury problems and that probably struck him down when he was coming into prominence. 'He was on everyone's lips, a move to Man United was maybe on the cards at one point, everyone was talking about him. 'There were a few players around like (Rasmus) Hojland, the same age, and he was probably in that bracket of maybe going onto one of the big-six. 'His Ireland career was going well. Then obviously the injuries and a loss of form. 'But I think the move abroad for these young players is brilliant if you get the opportunity, to learn a different culture. 'It's obviously different to what Trent (Alexander-Arnold)'s move is. You would put it more in the Jadon Sancho bracket, Jude Bellingham, to go to these clubs where everything about them is about football. 'He is going to Italy, he'll play with quality players like (Paulo) Dybala, and he'll learn a different style of football. 'He's away from the pressure as well, the expectation that everyone thinks he is going to become this world-beater, which is where he was before his injury. 'So I think it will really benefit his career, this move.' Get the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email .

Liverpool sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for up to €91 million
LIVERPOOL HAVE COMPLETED the signing of striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. A deal was reached between the two clubs on Monday for the 23-year-old to join Arne Slot's Premier League champions, which is believed to be for a guaranteed £69million [€79.59m] plus a potential £10million [€11.54m] in add-ons. The striker, who scored 22 goals for Frankfurt in all competitions last season, flew to England on Tuesday to undergo a medical ahead of the deal's completion and will now travel to Asia to join his new Liverpool team-mates on their pre-season tour. It's understood Newcastle and Manchester United had been interested in Ekitike, whose capture continues Liverpool's summer spending spree. Advertisement Florian Wirtz arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in an initial £100m [€115m] deal that could rise to £116m [€134m], while Jeremie Frimpong also joined from the German club in a £29.5m [€34m] switch and Milos Kerkez left Bournemouth for £40m [€46m]. Giorgi Mamardashvili has also linked up with Liverpool after agreeing a move from Valencia last August, along with fellow goalkeepers Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman.

Liverpool sign Hugo Ekitiké after fending off late Manchester United bid
Liverpool have completed the signing of Hugo Ekitiké from Eintracht Frankfurt, with the striker rejecting a late attempt by Manchester United to hijack the transfer. The France Under-21 international has joined the Premier League champions for a guaranteed £69m plus £10m in add-ons, having undergone a medical in the UK on Tuesday. He is understood to have signed a six-year contract and will meet up with his new teammates on their pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Japan. Ekitiké was a longstanding target for Liverpool, despite their interest in Newcastle centre-forward Alexander Isak, and contact was first made with the 23-year-old's representatives in January. Arne Slot then outlined his plans for the striker in a call at the end of last season. Newcastle made a move for Ekitiké last week after missing out on Liam Delap and João Pedro but their £70m bid was rejected by Eintracht and the player made it clear his preference was to join Liverpool. United also received the same information when they made a last-minute attempt to hijack the deal. Read More Marcus Rashford completes loan move to Barcelona United's director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is believed to have contacted Eintracht's sporting director Markus Krosche over a possible transfer but Ekitiké was already set on Anfield. Ekitiké scored 22 goals and made 12 assists in his one and only season at Frankfurt, helping the club qualify for the Champions League, and while primarily a No 9 Liverpool believe he can also operate as a second striker or out wide. He is potentially the third most expensive signing in Liverpool's history behind Florian Wirtz and Darwin Núñez. Anfield officials are confident he can become one of the finest forwards in the game should his recent progress with Eintracht be maintained. The deal for Ekitiké takes Liverpool's summer spending to almost £300m. The former Paris Saint-Germain player is the club's seventh signing of the window, following on from Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and a trio of goalkeepers: Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman.
