Asaduddin Owaisi Calls For "Effective" Response To Pahalgam Terror Attack
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday said India should give an effective response to last month's Pahalgam attack and termed the incident as barbaric and cowardly.
Speaking to reporters here, the Lok Sabha MP sought an inquiry into the death of a man from Kulgam who was allegedly picked up by security forces for questioning in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack.
"It was a terror attack, a cowardly attack. The more we condemn it, the less it is. We have seen how terrorists from Pakistan killed 26 people," Mr Owaisi told reporters.
The way people were killed by separating kids and women, and asking males about their religion, was disheartening and inhumane. "Those who couldn't recite the Kalma were fired upon. This is barbaric," he said.
Mr Owaisi said the local residents of Kashmir are bearing the brunt of the attack as the tourism sector has taken a hit.
"The tourists have gone from here in huge numbers. We want our government to give an effective response to it. We have said the same in the all-party meeting as well," he added.
To a question about the death of 22-year-old Imtiyaz Ahmad Magray from Kulgam, Mr Owaisi said an inquiry should be conducted to ascertain the circumstances that led to the death.
"There should be an inquiry. I have read the statements of his relatives in the media. An inquiry should be held into the circumstances of his death," the AIMIM chief said.
Residents of a village in Kulgam district found Magray's body on Sunday amid allegations that the dead was taken away by security forces for questioning in the wake of the Pahalgam incident.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference Lok Sabha member Aga Ruhullah Mehdi and Jammu and Kashmir Minister Sakina Ittoo said there were serious allegations of wrongdoing in the death of Magray, whose body was fished out from the Adbal stream in the Aharbal area of the district.
While Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the death, a drone footage, which surfaced hours after Magray's body was recovered, showed a youth jumping into the gushing Adbal stream and getting washed away.
Police claimed that Magray, who confessed to being an overground worker (OGW) for terrorists, tried to escape while leading security forces to a hideout in a forest area.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday termed as 'baseless and irresponsible' Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's claim his party had uncovered an 'atom bomb' of evidence proving voters lists were manipulated on a large scale, and said that it ignores such statements. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said the Congress began investigating after noticing irregularities during the Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Lok Sabha elections. He alleged that over 10 million voters were fraudulently added to the rolls. (Sansad TV) 'We dug deep because the Election Commission wasn't helping,' Gandhi told reporters outside Parliament. 'What we found is an atom bomb. When it explodes, you won't be able to see the Election Commission in India.' The Leader of Opposition said the party began investigating after noticing irregularities during the Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Lok Sabha elections. He alleged that over 10 million voters were fraudulently added to the rolls. 'There was a suspicion in the elections in Madhya Pradesh and the Lok Sabha, and it deepened in the Maharashtra assembly polls. At the state level, we believed there was a vote theft,' Gandhi said. 'It took us six months to study this in detail.' Gandhi issued a warning: 'Whoever is doing this, from top to bottom in the ECI, we won't spare you. You're working against the nation. This is treason.' In response, ECI said, 'The Election Commission ignores such baseless allegations being made on a daily basis and despite the daily threats being given, (it) asks all election officials to ignore such irresponsible statements and work in a fair and transparent manner.' The Congress has repeatedly accused the ECI of acting like a 'biased umpire', particularly in its handling of the 2024 general elections and multiple assembly polls. ECI said it had sent a mail to Gandhi on June 12 after previous allegations, but had not received a response. 'He has never sent any letter to ECI on any issue, whatsoever,' the election watchdog said. The latest accusation comes amid a broader protest by the opposition INDIA bloc over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral rolls, which they claim is a BJP-backed attempt to disenfranchise voters. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had also blamed the poll body on July 6, saying, 'With the cooperation of the Election Commission, the BJP's master plan to deprive crores in Bihar of their voting rights now seems to be ensnaring them. Forcibly disenfranchising the poor, Dalits, backwards — this is the BJP-RSS conspiracy.' Following a joint strategy meeting, the INDIA bloc parties on Thursday announced they will intensify their protests –– both in and outside Parliament. ECI published the draft electoral rolls for Bihar on Friday. Responding to Gandhi's claim , the BJP asked him to 'flow like water' instead of considering to 'explode like a bomb'. 'Will Rahul Gandhi explode like a bomb? What do you think? Their job is to explode. They have no other work to do,' BJP leader Sambit Patra told reporters at the BJP headquarters. He said the Opposition party speaks of such things because they have no faith in democracy. 'We are those who have faith in democracy. If they explode an atom bomb, we will save the Constitution,' Patra said.

Both Houses of Parliament adjourn amid Opposition ruckus over SIR in Bihar
New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) Both Houses of Parliament adjourned for the day today following persistent protests by Opposition over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar. Lok Sabha witnessed two adjournments while Rajya Sabha one. Lok Sabha was first adjourned upto 2pm shortly after it assembled for the day. After the Lok Sabha convened at 2 PM, Presiding Officer Krishna Prasad Tenneti called for the proceedings of the House. However, the Opposition members trooped into the Well of the House shouting slogans like "SIR pe charcha ho (hold discussion on SIR), Loktantra ki hatya band karo (Stop murder of democracy), SIR wapas lo (withdraw SIR). Some members were even holding placards with slogans written on them. Objecting to their actions, the Presiding Officer reiterated, "We've repeatedly told you not to bring placards or disrupt the House in this manner. You are not following the rules. I once again urge you to return to your seats." Tenneti said, "The Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024, has been pending for a long time. Twice I have requested for a discussion". Meanwhile, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that the bill aimed at enhancing representation for tribal communities in Goa. Addressing the Opposition, he questioned, 'By obstructing proceedings, are you opposing the bill? Are you against the tribals?' The presiding officer again requested, "This is a very important Bill. we are talking about the tribals of Goa. There is no representation of tribals and don't you want this discussion?" However, the commotion continued. The Chair then adjourned the house to meet again on August 4, (Monday) at 11 AM. As soon as the House met for the day, Speaker Om Birla called for the question hour. Opposition members immediately entered the well of the House holding placards and raising slogans. The Speaker objected to their actions and urged the agitating members to allow the House proceedings to continue. The sloganeering persisted as the protesting members ignored the Speaker's repeated appeals. The Opposition continued with sloganeering and Birla adjourned the House till 2 PM. Meanwhile, similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha. As soon as the Upper House convened for the day, Opposition members raised slogans demanding an urgent discussion on the alleged irregularities in the Bihar voter list revision. The uproar led to an early adjournment till 12 noon. When the House reassembled, the protests resumed, prompting Deputy Chairman Harivansh to adjourn proceedings for the day. Harivansh informed the House that he had received 30 notices from members across party lines under Rule 267 seeking suspension of business to allow discussions on a range of issues. Among them were Prof Manoj Jha (RJD), Tiruchi Siva (DMK), Neeraj Dangi, Rajni Patil, and Renuka Chowdhury (Congress), Sagarika Ghosh (Trinamool Congress), and John Brittas (CPI-M), all of whom sought debate on the Bihar SIR. Additional notices were submitted by members on diverse issues: rising violence against women in Odisha (BJD members Niranjan Bishi, Sultadevi, Sasmit Patra), alleged discrimination against Bengali workers in other states (Trinamool MPs Sameerul Islam and Mausam Noor), the arrest of two nuns in Chhattisgarh (AA Rahim, CPI-M), US tariffs on Indian products (Sanjay Singh, AAP and Ramjilal Suman, SP), and layoffs in the IT sector (V. Sivadasan, CPI-M). The Deputy Chairman clarified that none of the notices met the procedural requirements and were therefore disallowed. As Ashok Kumar Mittal (AAP) was called to speak during zero hour, Opposition members stormed the well of the House, raising slogans such as 'Stop Vote Theft' and 'Raise Your Voice on SIR'. Harivansh appealed for order, reiterating that the Election Commission is a constitutional authority and the matter is sub judice before the Supreme Court. Ex-CJI Khanna to appear before joint polls House panel on Aug 19
Former CJI Sanjiv Khanna is scheduled to interact with the Joint Committee of Parliament on the 'One Nation, One Election' (ONOE) Bill, on August 19, according to the meeting notice issued on Thursday. The committee, chaired by BJP MP P P Chaudhary, has held nine meetings so far. Former CJIs D Y Chandrachud, J S Khehar and U U Lalit have already interacted with the committee. As per the notice, the committee will hold a meeting on August 11 and interact with political scientists and experts and then hold the meeting with ex-CJI Khanna. If passed, the Bills would pave the way for simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and State/UT Assemblies in 2034.
