Enzo Fernandez will be even better next season
The Argentina midfielder, signed from the Portuguese giants for a then British record £106.8million two years ago, took time to find his feet at Stamford Bridge.
But he excelled in the second half of the 2024-25 season, finishing the campaign with eight goals, and has continued to shine at the Club World Cup.

The 24-year-old scored in the opening win over Los Angeles FC and created two goals in as many minutes as the Blues beat Esperance Tunis 3-0 in their final group game on Tuesday.
Their reward is a last-16 clash with Benfica in Charlotte on Saturday.
Maresca told reporters at his pre-match press conference: 'I'm very pleased with Enzo, especially because, first of all, he's a nice boy. He's polite, he's a good boy.
'Then he's worked very well in all aspects inside the pitch, outside the pitch. Our struggle at the beginning was (for him) to understand the way we want to play.
'But he is doing fantastic in terms of numbers, goal assists. This is what we want from our attacking players.
'I've said many times that I prefer to have the attacking players score 10-12 goal each, rather than just a striker with 40 goals.
'So his contribution this season has been top and I am sure next season will be even better.'
Enzo Maresca has stressed the need to be patient with Andrey Santos (Rafal Oleksiewicz/PA)
Despite that, Fernandez could face competition for his place after Maresca suggested he sees Brazilian Andrey Santos more as an attacking player than a defensive one.
The highly-rated 21-year-old has rejoined the club this summer after a successful loan spell at Strasbourg and made his debut as a second-half substitute against Esperance.
Maresca said: 'His season has been very good but I think you need time to adapt.
'In terms of position, I see Andrey in this moment in more like Enzo's position than Romeo's (Lavia) position.
'The Premier League demands (players) to be physically strong. In this moment, I see Andrey more of an attacking player than defensive in the field.'
Maresca added that he hopes 19-year-old defender Josh Acheampong will stay with the club despite being linked with Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund.
He said: 'My idea or my plan with Josh is quite clear. I think he potentially can be a top defender for this club. I feel the best plan for Josh is to be with us.'
Trevoh Chalobah's future has been the subject of speculation (John Walton/PA)
Maresca would also like England international Trevoh Chalobah to stay, but offered no guarantees.
He said: 'All the players that are here with us, I don't want to lose them but when the transfer window is open, unfortunately, anything can happen – not only for Trevoh, for (all) the 25 players of the squad.'
Maresca expects a tight contest against Benfica.
He said: 'It's going to be a balanced game, a tough game. In this kind of game the small details are very important.'

Jeremy Doku confident Manchester City are seeing a ‘better version' of himself
The Belgium winger produced an electric display, which included scoring the opening goal, as Manchester City thrashed Italian giants Juventus 5-2 in the Club World Cup on Thursday. The 23-year-old looked sharp and exciting in a team which appears to have been rejuvenated by the arrivals of new faces. Nobody at City is getting carried away by one performance, but the side did look more like Guardiola's all-conquering outfit of recent years than the one that laboured through most of the 2024-25 campaign. Doku said: 'Obviously it was a good game, we won and we were together from the start to the end and we scored some nice goals. We finished top of the group and we are happy. 'I don't know (if we are back to our best). We just look game by game and this was a good game and we looked a bit more like how we were before, and we will try to produce in every game like this and in every performance. 'I feel free and enjoying my football, of course. I can still improve on certain aspects but when I play free and with the right mind, with the trust of the coach obviously, then you see a better version of me and now you are seeing a glimpse of it.' Asked further why he feels so free on the pitch, Doku said: 'I think it's more to do with my faith, I'm more occupied with my faith and I just give all the glory to my Lord and our saviour Jesus Christ.' City's victory over Juve at Orlando's Camping World Stadium ensured they avoided Real Madrid in the last 16 and they will now return to the same venue to face Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia on Monday (2am Tuesday BST). Manager Guardiola is treating the tournament as the start of the 2025-26 season in order to make a clean break from the disappointments of last term. The approach so far seems to have been vindicated with new signings Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Tijjani Reijnders making positive first impressions. 'Obviously there are a lot of games but we are here now, it's a nice tournament and we are just trying to win,' said Doku. Another positive has been the return of key midfielder Rodri, who made his first start since September against Juve. Doku said: 'Having him back in the team, you can see the difference and see how important he is. 'After such a long period of injury, in the first game back starting against a big club, he showed his qualities and he had a lot of impact.'

Marcus Rashford rejects three Premier League clubs
Marcus Rashford has rejected three Premier League clubs while Barcelona are refusing to rule out a move for the Manchester United forward, according to reports in Spain. United are looking to sell Rashford this summer and the 27-year-old's brother and agent met with Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, last month in order to discuss a potential deal. Barcelona, however, are prioritising a move for Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams, who has agreed to join the La Liga champions following a meeting with Deco in Ibiza last week. Williams has a €58 million (£48.1m) release clause in his deal with Bilbao, who have been unhappy with Barcelona's approach and claim that their La Liga rivals would be unable to register the winger due to financial fair play restrictions. According to Sport, Barcelona are working on completing a deal to sign Williams but will still consider signing Rashford alongside the Spain international. The report claims that Rashford remains 'determined' to join Barcelona and has rejected offers from Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle United, as well as the Saudi Pro League. More Trending Rashford is also said to be willing to push United for a loan deal, which is Barcelona's preference, and would be open to reducing his salary to such an extent where Barca would not encounter an issue with registering him for the upcoming season. United are demanding a €40m (£34.1m) transfer fee but Barcelona are unwilling to meet that asking price. Barcelona have told Rashford that he will need to wait, potentially until the closing stages of the summer transfer window, for a deal to be agreed. When asked about potentially playing alongside Lamine Yamal at Barcelona, Rashford said during an interview with XBuyer last week: 'Yeah, sure. Everybody in the world wants to play with the best. So hopefully, we'll see.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
