These tools are now available for download on the official income tax e-filing portal , allowing eligible taxpayers to start preparation for filing of income tax returns for FY 2024-25 (AY 2025-26).The Income Tax Department has announced the release of excel utilities via a post on X (formerly Twitter). 'Attention taxpayers! The Excel Utility for ITR-1 and ITR-4 for AY 2025-26 has been enabled and is now available for taxpayers,' the Income Tax Department said on X.Himank Singla, Partner at SBHS & Associates, says, 'It's a big relief to see that the Excel Utilities for ITR-1 and ITR-4 for Assessment Year 2025–26 have been released by the Income Tax Department. I have already filed ITR-4 using Excel Utility, and I am happy to share that the process was smooth - there are no major changes in the ITR-4 schema compared to last year, which makes it even easier for regular filers and tax professionals. However, a very important change has been made in the schema for ITR-1. A new validation rule has been introduced in the utility itself: if certain TDS section codes appear in Schedule TDS2 or TDS3—such as 194B, 194BB, 194S, 194LA, 195, 196A, 194Q, 194R and others—the income tax return will now be considered invalid for filing under ITR-1. This means taxpayers having income under special rates or from sources like online games, lotteries, crypto, property transfers, must use ITR-2 or other appropriate forms. This is a very welcome and practical change. In past years, many taxpayers unknowingly filed ITR-1 with such incomes, only to face defective return notices from CPC. By building this validation directly into the utility, the Department has helped prevent incorrect filings at source, saving both time and confusion.'Also read: When will salaried employees get Form 16 to file income tax return for FY 2024-25 (AY 2025-26)? Centre approves annual road plan of Rs 3,667 crore for Himachal: Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 1 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh stated that the Central Government has approved the Annual Plan of Rs 3,667 crore for the construction and upgrading of roads, bridges and related infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh for the financial year 2024-25. Singh on Monday said that the plan includes construction of bridges, road widening, installation of crash barriers and other works on national highways across various districts of the state. The Minister said that on the directions of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, he recently met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and discussed important issues related to the state. He said that presently the state has around 1,200 kilometres of roads under the national highway network and requested to enhance central assistance for their maintenance and improvement of roads and other related works. He said that while the state had submitted an Annual Plan of Rs. 2,600 crore for the financial year 2023-24, it had received only Rs. 269 crore, which was insufficient. However, for the financial year 2024-25, the state government proposed a plan worth Rs.3,667 crore, which has now been approved by the Centre in June. Vikramaditya Singh said that he had also raised the issue of constructing a tunnel beneath Jalori Jot in Kullu district, under National Highway-305. The Central Government has given in-principle approval and sanctioned Rs. 1,452 crore for this tunnel. He said that the construction of this tunnel would not only boost tourism in the area but also benefit lakhs of residents in the region. He further added that due to repeated landslides near Brauni Nala on National Highway-5, the road has suffered serious damage. To address this, the Centre has approved Rs.135 crore for the construction of a bridge at this location. Apart from this, the Central Government has sanctioned Rs.1,385 crore for the four-laning of the Kala Amb-Paonta Sahib-Dehradun road. It includes land acquisition and pre-construction activities. The PWD Minister expressed his gratitude to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and the Central Government for approving significant funds for the state. He said he was hoping for strong coordination between the Centre and the State to continue in the future. He said that the state government, with the Centre's support, was committed to ensuring balanced and inclusive development in all regions of the state. The Minister said that during his Delhi visit, he also met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and raised the issue of the proposed Bhubu Jot tunnel and road connecting Mandi and Kullu districts. He requested that the road leading to the tunnel be declared strategically important as a defence route. He said that the state was hopeful of a positive outcome on this vital road project in the near future. Once completed, the road would reduce the distance between Pathankot and Kullu by 40 to 50 kilometres, which would boost tourism and also benefit residents as well as the Indian Army. (ANI)

HC slaps ₹2 lakh fine on eight tenants, says they can't oppose redevelopment of building

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by eight tenants who tried to stall the redevelopment of a dangerously dilapidated building in Malad West. The court fined them ₹ 2 lakh each and reiterated that the property owner has the right to get his building redeveloped and tenants cannot oppose such a demolition. The Krishna Baug building near Malad Railway station was demolished two years ago. (Raju Shinde / HT Photo) The eight tenants had opposed their eviction and the demolition of the 100-year-old Krishna Baug Building No.1 which had been classified by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as a C1 category building, extremely dangerous and unfit for habitation. In 2020 the BMC had issued a notice for the building's immediate demolition. A division-bench of justices Ajey Gadkari and Kamal Khata heard two separate pleas, one by the tenants of commercial premises filed in 2023, challenging the BMC's demolition notice and questioning the C1 category, and another by building owners asking for the demolitions to be enforced, instead of being stalled by tenants. Tenants wanted the building to be reclassified from the C1 category to the C2-B category which suggests repairs and renovations. They said that repair work had already been completed, the ground floor of the building was no longer dangerous, and there was no need for evicting them anymore. The court called this as an 'obstructionist approach intended to hinder the landlord's efforts toward redevelopment' and made it illegal for tenants to obstruct demolitions. The court added that the rights of tenants are safeguarded by the Maharashtra Rent Control Act, 1999 and the BMC Act. The court said that as per section 17 (tenants rights in matters of redevelopment) of the Rent Control Act, and section 499 (regarding repair work) and 354 (removal of structures) of the BMC Act, tenants had the right to oppose the 'reconstruction' of the building, but not the 'redevelopment' of it. In real estate, reconstruction refers to rebuilding a structure without any change, and redevelopment involves demolishing the structure and building a new one with a different design and layout. While asking the tenants to pay the fine, the court said that they had been focused only on extending their stay in the building without taking into consideration other residents of the building.
