Denmark's 'Miracle Of Midtjylland' sends Canada crashing out
A goal down with time running out, the Danes scored twice in the final three minutes on Thursday, including Nick Olesen's last-minute winner, to complete a stunning comeback that will live long in the annals of Danish sport.
"It's completely surreal. I'm in a bubble right now, it feels like a dream. We've beaten, in my opinion, the best national team in the world. For every Danish ice hockey player, they have about a thousand," Danish captain Jesper Jensen Aabo told national broadcaster DR.
"It shouldn't be possible, to be completely honest... I don't think there was anyone in this arena who believed it before the game but we believed in the locker room. We grabbed the tiny straw that was there, and we've made ice hockey history."
The Canadians came into the game as overwhelming favourites but the Danes shredded their lofty reputation with strong defending and a never-say-die attitude.
"It's hard to put into words. It's not so much about my goal, it's about the fact that we all fought our butts off for the whole 60 minutes. We beat Canada and that's the biggest thing in my career," winning goal-scorer Olesen said.
"Hearing the roar that went through the hall when I scored, I can only repeat that it is probably the greatest thing I have experienced in my ice hockey career," he added.
The reward for the Danes is a last-four game against Switzerland in Stockholm on Saturday, with Sweden facing Team USA in the other semi-final.

St Kilda pull off greatest comeback in AFL/VFL history against Melbourne
St Kilda pulled off the greatest three-quarter-time comeback in VFL/AFL history, storming home from 46 points down to stun Melbourne in a crazy finish at Marvel Stadium. Off-contract star Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera was the hero, slotting two goals in a frantic climax to pinch a miracle six-point victory. The Saints slotted nine unanswered goals in the final term to win 15.6 (96) to Melbourne's 13.12 (90). It pips the previous the best last quarter revival, when the Brisbane Bears came from 45 points down at the final break to beat Hawthorn in 1995. Wanganeen-Milera calmly slotted his third goal after flying for a soaring mark with less than 20 seconds remaining. Saints ruck Rowan Marshall was able to perfectly pick out Wanganeen-Milera running inside 50 to take a mark just before the siren sounded. The British and Irish Lions clinched a series triumph over Australia with a game to spare following a thrilling 29-26 victory in Saturday's second Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground. History awaits A series whitewash beckons in Sydney and with Australia surely having punched themselves out at the great gladiatorial arena that is the MCG, history is there for the taking. Even the immortals of 1971 and 1974 were unable to produce 100 per cent records, achievements that also eluded the 1997 and 2013 vintages from the professional era. Itoje turns the tide Staring down the barrel of a heavy defeat, Farrell needed one of his Lions to light the way and his captain duly obliged. Maro Itoje was the standard bearer of his team's defiance by dominating the Wallabies with a towering physical display and, after nine successive Tests in the red jersey, the last eight coming as starts, he takes his place in the pantheon alongside the likes of Willie John McBride and Martin Johnson. As skipper, the England second row exudes calm authority but he also brought force when it was needed by squaring off with Will Skelton and interrupting Harry Wilson when the Australia captain attempted to influence a crucial late decision by referee Andrea Piardi. Curry and Beirne shine again A disappointing feature of the Lions tour ending next weekend is that Tom Curry and Tadhg Beirne will never again be seen in the same back row. The all-action flankers backed up their towering displays in the first Test with more colossal feats at the MCG in an emphatic endorsement of Farrell's selection given their ordinary pre-series form made them contentious picks. Described by Farrell as a 'machine', Curry's work-rate and relentless physicality are unrivalled, while Beirne produces big moment after big moment. Both forwards touched down with fine finishes and ran themselves into the ground. Curry, in particular, is a bona fide Lions great. Wallabies not dead yet As Australia stormed ahead in Melbourne, the poor preparation that led to their obliteration in the first-half at Suncorp Stadium was shown to be an even greater blunder than initially feared. What would the Wallabies have been like had they been given more than a warm-up against Fiji to sharpen the blade ahead of their biggest match since the 2015 World Cup final? Returning forward Rob Valetini and Will Skelton, both back from calf injuries, were magnificent and lifted everyone around them, but their team was clearly undercooked for the first Test.
