USA Today9 hours ago
Austen Lane and Vitor Petrino meet Saturday on the main card of UFC on ESPN 70 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.
Last event: 2-3
UFC main cards, 2025: 64-48-1
Austen Lane vs. Vitor Petrino UFC on ESPN 70 preview
Lane (13-6 MMA, 1-3 UFC) earned his way into the UFC after a second appearance on Dana White's Contender Series, but has struggled to find success. Since arriving at the big show, he has gone 1-3 with one no contest. His lone victory was an admirable one, as he stifled dangerous knockout artist Robelis Despaigne by unanimous decision. However, Lane was knocked out in his next appearance by Mario Pinto, which took place in March. ... Petrino (11-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has suffered the first two losses of his professional career in succession. The Brazilian comes in after a first-round submission loss to Anthony Smith and a third-round knockout loss against Dustin Jacoby. In his first fight of 2025, Petrino will look to get back on track, and return to the form of a fighter that impressed on DWCS and then won his first four fights in the UFC.
Austen Lane vs. Vitor Petrino UFC on ESPN 70 expert pick, prediction
Death, taxes, and the UFC matchmakers force-feeding us lower-level heavyweights on Fight Night main cards.
Although this might be one of the few pairings that the UFC can put together that are exempt from the "t-shirt in the pool division" criticisms of the current state of heavyweight, I'm not sure how high you should set your expectations for Vitor Petrino vs. Austen Lane.
Petrino looks the part and has shown the athletic potential that can translate to the fight game, whereas Lane is a completely different kind of athlete that, despite the relentless enthusiasm from the gen pop when it comes to football players, doesn't seem to translate well to fighting at all.
That's right, it may hurt (particularly American) fans to realize this, but sport-specific or general athleticism doesn't guarantee you success when it comes to fighting, folks. I'm not even talking about technique over size or any of that nonsense, either.
This "sport," particularly at heavyweight, comes down to whether or not you have that "it" in you and if you can use it to deal damage.
Lane has looked to have made real efforts into expanding his skills as a martial artist (which I greatly respect), but I still don't believe Lane has "it" from a top-level fighting perspective.
I know that my home country has been almost conditioned to worship football players since grade school, but can we finally give the "he used to play football" hype narrative a rest, considering that, realistically, Brendan Schaub is sadly the best in this category? Please?
Anyway, the pick is Petrino by knockout in Round 2.
Austen Lane vs. Vitor Petrino UFC on ESPN 70 odds
The oddsmakers and the public are heavily favoring the Brazilian fighter, listing Petrino -650 and Lane +420 via FanDuel.
Austen Lane vs. Vitor Petrino UFC on ESPN 70 start time, how to watch

Wimbledon Men's Final Betting Odds, Picks: Books Split On Sinner-Alcaraz

Sunday's Men's Wimbledon Final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz is expected to be another tight matchup between the young stars. Sunday's Men's Wimbledon Final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz is expected to be another tight matchup between the young stars. Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The top-ranked players in men's tennis -- No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz -- will meet in a final with a Grand Slam trophy on the line for the second time in as many months on Centre Court on Sunday morning. The Wimbledon men's final between three-time Grand Slam winner Sinner and Alcaraz (a five-time Grand Slam champ) comes less than two months after Alcaraz stormed back from a huge deficit to win the French Open in five sets on June 8. Top-seeded Sinner took down Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals and Djokovic in the semis to reach Sunday's Wimbledon final. Alcaraz, the 2-seed in this competition, cruised past Cam Norrie in three sets in the quarterfinals, but needed four sets to beat American Taylor Fritz in a hard-fought semifinal battle on Friday. Entering Wimbledon, Alcaraz and Sinner unsurprisingly had the shortest odds to win the men's trophy: ESPN BET listed Alcaraz at +120 and Sinner at +190 before this tournament got underway. Sunday's final guarantees that either Alcaraz or Sinner will have won seven consecutive Grand Slams and eight of the last nine. Novak Djokovic was the last player besides either of these two to win a Grand Slam (2023 U.S. Open). In 2024, Alcaraz won the French Open and Wimbledon, while Sinner took the Australian and U.S. Opens, and this year, Sinner won Down Under before falling to Alcaraz in the final at Roland Garros. Wimbledon Men's Final Betting Odds As you can see below, multiple oddsmakers literally see Sunday's match as a coin flip, while DraftKings and BetMGM give Sinner the slight edge. Jannik Sinner vs. Carlos Alcaraz Moneyline Odds The moneyline odds below from bet365, DraftKings, BetMGM and FanDuel are up-to-date as of Saturday night (East Coast time). bet365 DK BetMGM FD Jannik Sinner -110 -115 -110 -110 Carlos Alcaraz -110 -105 -105 -110 Jannik Sinner vs. Carlos Alcaraz Total Games Odds The Over/Under on total games for this match is set at 41.5. bet365: 41.5 (o-110; u-125) DK: 41.5 (o-115; u-115) BetMGM: 41.5 (o-140; u+100) FD: 41.5 (o-120; u-110) It's also possible to bet on how many sets this match will go. At bet365, this match is +175 to go 3 sets, +150 to go 4 sets and +175 to go 5 sets. DK prices the total sets (3 way) market as follows: 3 sets (+180), 4 sets (+150), 5 sets (+180). How To Watch Wimbledon Men's Final Start time : 11 a.m. ET : 11 a.m. ET TV: ESPN/ESPN+ Sinner vs. Alcaraz Analysis, Pick, Best Bets Jannik Sinner vs. Carlos Alcaraz Head-To-Head Results The 23-year-old Sinner and Alcaraz, 22, have already met 12 times in their young careers. Alcaraz has gone 8-4 in those meetings. A win tomorrow would be Alcaraz's sixth consecutive head-to-head triumph over the Italian. Of the 12 previous Sinner vs. Alcaraz clashes, four came at Grand Slam tournaments. Alcaraz lost to Sinner in the round of 16 at Wimbledon 2022, but beat him at the U.S. Open quarterfinals in 2022, the French Open semifinals in 2024 and this year's French Open final. Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz Injury News Another key factor in this match will be Sinner's health after he suffered an elbow injury in his fourth-round win vs. Grigor Dimitrov, but appeared unbothered in the quarterfinals and semifinals. Alcaraz is not dealing with any injury issues. Jannik Sinner vs. Carlos Alcaraz Prediction, Best Bets Sinner has been impressive in London this week, particularly in his three-set semifinal win over Djokovic on Friday (6-3, 6-3, 6-4). It's hard to argue with Alcaraz given his recent head-to-head dominance of Sinner, though. The fact Alcaraz has already won two Wimbledon finals (he took down Djokovic in the 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon finals) is another good reason to back the Spaniard. How both players start this match will be fascinating to watch after Sinner won the first two sets at Roland Garros before Alcaraz rallied to win. We're splitting hairs here, but I have to pick between these two, I like Alcaraz, especially at close to even money. The other bet I like in this match is it to go the distance. Best bets: Carlos Alcaraz moneyline (-105 at DK, BetMGM) -- 1 unit Total sets: 5 (+180 at DK) -- 0.5 units Newsweek may earn an affiliate commission if you sign up through the links in this article.
