If you've ever wanted to see India by river voyage, you'll soon be able to.
Viking announced the launch of its new river boat tour of India via the Brahmaputra River on the Viking Brahmaputra . (The Brahmaputra River flows through three countries: northeastern India, Bangladesh, and southwestern China.)
The 80-guest vessel with 40 outside staterooms is currently under construction and is scheduled to debut in 2027, when it will set sail between two cities—Guwahati and Nimati Ghat—in the northeastern state of Assam. Guests will be able to enjoy Viking's signature Scandinavian design, staterooms with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and a veranda, a spa and fitness center, and an open-air bar.
On the river voyage, guests will have the opportunity to see Guwahati's temple, search for one-horned rhinos and buffaloes in Assam's Kaziranga National Park, and delve into the cultures of the large river island of Majuli.
The launch of the Viking Brahmaputra is part of Viking's brand new 15-day itinerary "Wonders of India," which includes the 8-day Brahmaputra River voyage as well as a fully-guided program on land, with overnight stays in popular destinations like Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra.
The "Wonders of India" voyage will begin and end in Delhi, the capital of India, and the hotel stays on land will bracket the river journey in the middle. The itinerary takes guests to as many as 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, immersing travelers in India's cultural treasure and heritages. Participants can learn about the history of India's Golden Triangle by exploring the famous Taj Mahal in Agra, strolling through the tangled streets of Old Delhi, and visiting Jaipur's Palace of the Winds.
'With its rich heritage, deep cultural traditions and fascinating natural wonders, India is a vast and vibrant country that has captured the imagination of explorers for centuries,' Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking, said in a statement shared with Travel + Leisure . 'In recent years, our guests have particularly enjoyed visiting Indian ports on our ocean itineraries. We are now delighted to introduce a new way for curious travelers to explore the heart of this phenomenal country, in-depth and in Viking comfort.'

Mercedes-Benz India's first-quarter sales hit record high on strong demand for top-end models, EVs

(Reuters) -German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz said its first-quarter sales in India hit an all-time high, rising 10% to 4,238 units, on strong demand for its high-end models and electric vehicles (EVs). Demand for luxury models in India, the world's third-largest car market, has steadily risen over the last few years as rapid economic growth brought about a fundamental shift in attitude towards luxury purchases among its younger generation. Luxury car sales account for a little over 1% of India's 4 million units-a-year market. "Our sharp focus on bolstering the top-end luxury (segment) has been highly successful in influencing customer preferences," Mercedes-Benz India CEO Santosh Iyer said. Sales of top-end models, like the S-Class and the Mercedes-Maybach portfolio, rose 20% between April and June, while EV sales jumped than two-fold to form 8% of Mercedes-Benz India's overall sales. Mercedes' core segment, which includes the C- and E-Class sedans and the GLC and GLE sports utility vehicles, grew 10% in the quarter. These cars account for 60% of the company's total sales in India. Mercedes leads sales of luxury vehicles in India, followed by BMW and Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). It produces and assembles a handful of models, including some EVs, from its Chakan factory in the western state of Maharashtra.

MP Materials (NYSE:MP) Announces Partnership With U.S. Department of Defense

MP Materials recently announced a public-private partnership with the United States Department of Defense to strengthen the domestic rare earth magnet supply chain. This collaboration, coupled with significant financial commitments, likely fueled the company's impressive 99% price increase over the last quarter. The market remained flat in the short-term but increased 13% over the last year, with earnings projected to grow 15% annually, suggesting that the company's share price performance was well-aligned with broader market trends but received additional momentum from strategic partnerships and expansion plans. The recent partnership between MP Materials and the U.S. Department of Defense is poised to enhance the domestic rare earth magnet supply chain, potentially bolstering both revenue and earnings forecasts. By securing a foothold in critical supply chains, the company is likely to see increased production and revenue growth in ex-China markets. This alignment with governmental initiatives could provide further impetus for their ambitious revenue growth targets and earnings turnaround. As management pushes forward with efficiency-driven projects, any further advancements might positively impact financial projections amidst a backdrop of fluctuating rare earth element prices. Over the past five years, MP Materials shareholders have seen a substantial total return of 312.72%, reflecting both share price appreciation and dividends. This long-term performance has outpaced the broader Metals and Mining industry, which saw an 8.1% return over the past year. In contrast to the short-term and industry trends, the company's recent 99% quarterly share price increase deviated from the broader market's 13% annual rise, indicating a company-specific momentum driven by strategic partnerships and expansion efforts. Despite the recent impressive gains in share price, MP Materials is currently trading at US$24.58, placing it approximately 7.9% below the consensus analyst price target of US$26.69. As analysts have priced in future revenue and earnings growth, the ongoing developments, such as expanding production and optimizing processes, could play a crucial role in achieving these expectations. However, the narrow margin between the current price and analyst target suggests limited upside, prompting careful consideration of upcoming fiscal performance and market conditions. China, ASEAN to submit upgraded free trade deal to leaders in October, says China's foreign minister

SHANGHAI (Reuters) -China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations have agreed to submit a pact upgrading their free trade areas to their leaders for approval in October, according to China's foreign minister Wang Yi on Saturday. Negotiations about the so-called 3.0 version of the free trade zone started in November 2022 and completed in May, seeking to cover areas such as the digital economy, green economy and supply chain connectivity. China and ASEAN also agreed on a five-year action plan that specifies collaboration between the two sides in over 40 fields in the coming years, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, citing Wang's comments after attending the East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Friday. Wang also said the two sides agreed to strive to complete consultations next year on a code of conduct in the South China Sea - a set of guidelines aiming to manage disputes in the region, where Beijing and several ASEAN members have overlapping maritime claims.
