NBA Finals: How OKC Thunder can clinch the title in Game 6

Hindustan Times18-06-2025
The Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers are all geared up for a historic Game 6 in the NBA Finals series, which may prove to be the most crucial game yet. After the Thunder's decisive win at home in Game 5 on Monday (June 16), the series now runs 3-2 in their favor.
The chances of Game 6 possibly deciding who lifts the cup this year have made all eyes turn to what's needed for OKC Thunder to leave the Pacers high and dry.
Monday's match marked the first time the Pacers have lost two games back-to-back in this tournament. Labeled as the 'underdogs' of the series, the pressure on the Pacers to rise and even the score come Friday (June 20) is all the more leveled up. A win from the Thunder, on the other hand, could secure them their first title in franchise history. Needless to say, the stakes are high.
According to the latest odds and probabilities predicted by DraftKings Sportsbook, the chances of the Thunder taking this home are overwhelmingly evident. Here are the latest stats on who people are placing their bets on:
Spread
Thunder -5 (-110)
Pacers +5 (-110)
Moneyline
Thunder: -198
Pacers: +164
Total
225 (Over -110/Under -110)
This gives the Thunder an implied probability of 66.4% to defeat the Pacers. These numbers only become more favorable for the Thunder if one were to look at series odds; a -1600 score provides a 94% chance of victory.
In terms of team strength and performance, following Game 5, Jalen Williams' 40 points have brought him up as the second favorable choice to win the coveted Finals MVP award this year. With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in his court and the fact that only two out of 31 instances of NBA history result in a team winning the championship after losing out Game 5 swing the pendulum increasingly in favor of the Thunder.
Only time and miracle will tell if the Pacers are able to surpass these barriers to secure the title. But as of now, the ball pretty much seems to be in the Thunder's court.

Dwyane Wade fires back at James Harden comparisons as debate over all-time shooting guards heats up

Dwyane Wade is a remarkable player (Image via Instagram / @dwyanewade) Dwyane Wade recently made a crazy jab at James Harden as the two shooting guards' similarities grew. Usually placed only behind Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, both are frequently considered to be among the finest in NBA history. James Harden has the individual honors, winning an MVP award and on the verge of breaking into the top 10 all-time scorers, while Dwyane Wade has the team success, winning three titles and a Finals MVP award. Dwyane Wade weighs in on James Harden comparisons and what truly defines greatness One of the most fascinating debates of the league is the one concerning the greatest shooting guards in NBA history. The discussion includes individuals like Klay Thompson, James Harden, and Dwyane Wade. Among these players, the Los Angeles Clippers and Utah Jazz co-owners are frequently compared. Now, the former player recently weighed in on the discussion. He said on the Time out podcast: "It's going to be a lot of arguments about 'Oh, he's better because he scored more points. Oh, he's better because I like his game better. He's better because he won more rings.' This conversation never goes anywhere... Winning a ring, it's a whole different game than being a great player and having stats. I could have more stats if I didn't care about winning a ring.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unsold 2022 Cars Now Almost Free - Prices May Surprise You Unsold Cars | Search Ads Learn More Undo The constant comparisons between the two is the source of his comment. Patrick Beverley, a former NBA player, was also one of many who made the comparison in his March podcast. He said: "I've seen the comparison with James Harden and [Dwyane Wade], I'm taking James Harden over D-Wade, it's only because of longevity.' In a March edition of his podcast, G.S. Warriors player Draymond Green also made comparisons between the former All-Stars. He adopted his own stance on the issue by selecting D-Wade. Dwyane Wade is tired of the comparison (Image via Instagram / @dwyanewade) He said: "I played against both of them and really both of them in their prime. Like I played D-Wade when I came to the league and they were winning championships in Miami. But in saying that, man, James Harden is so fu***ing good. But the reason I'm going to pick D-Wade, I'm going to pick D-Wade, and he won championships and he won a championship as Finals MVP, carrying a team in his third year. Yes, he had the Diesel and Diesel changed everything. I'mma pick D-Wade because of that reason.' Even though D-Wade is a senior, James Harden still has time to prove himself. Now, only time will tell who will emerge victorious in the debate. LA Lakers got Marcus Smart. Now, this trade could give them competitive edge

NBA team rosters are usually hard to keep track of, but by the way the Los Angeles Lakers are going, it couldn't be more clear that the team intends to place Luka Doncic and LeBron James front and center in their plans. Recently, the team managed to sign on defensive specialist Marcus Smart with a little assistance from Doncic, as per The Athletic. This development further amplifies the crucial role Doncic has started to play in the Lakers' inner circle. Luka Doncic reportedly had a small part to play in LA Lakers signing Marcus Smart(AP) Interestingly, Caleb Hightower from The Sporting News has presented a fresh trade proposal that could help Smart reunite with his former Boston Celtics teammate and give the Lakers a significant competitive edge. Caleb Hightower's proposal As per Hightower's pitch, the Lakers could trade Maxi Kleber, Gabe Vincent, and a future second-round pick to the Celtics in exchange for Robert Williams III. "Williams' 2021-22 campaign with the Celtics was his most productive. The Texas A&M product averaged 10.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game on a Celtics squad that reached the NBA Finals, shooting 73.6% from the field. However, Williams, like Smart, parted ways with the Celtics after the 2022-23 season,' writes Hightower in support of his argument. With a notable shot-blocking ability in addition to rim-running and high field goal percentage, Williams's chemistry with Smart is a time-tested one and could prove to work well in favor of the Lakers. This would help them improve their interior presence behind DeAndre Ayton and provide a strong center. What's the drawback? Williams's repeated injuries and general health levels, however, are something that needs to be taken into account before arriving at a final decision. 'The former first-round pick has spent two consecutive injury-riddled campaigns with the Portland Trail Blazers following his departure from Boston, only appearing in 26 regular-season contests,' adds Hightower. For a team aiming to win a championship, such risks are not the end of the road but need to be taken into account well in advance. However, Hightower still argues that the benefits outweigh the cons of taking Williams in with Smart.

NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers Urged to Acquire $48 Million Boston Celtics Star to Bolster Frontcourt Depth; Maxi Kleber Key Trade Asset?

Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers (Image via Getty) The Los Angeles Lakers are actively reshaping their roster around stars Luka Doncic and LeBron James , and with free agency well underway, their recent moves suggest a clear push toward defense, depth, and chemistry. However, one NBA analyst believes there's still one more move the Lakers should make - part ways with Maxi Kleber and bring in Marcus Smart's former Boston Celtics teammate, Robert Williams III. Marcus Smart Joins Los Angeles Lakers - Thanks in Part to Luka Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Lakers made headlines by signing defensive specialist Marcus Smart. The deal gives Los Angeles a major upgrade in perimeter defense. According to The Athletic's Dan Woike, Luka Doncic reportedly played a role in facilitating Smart's addition to the team, showing his growing influence within the franchise's front office decisions. Smart, known for his gritty play and leadership, immediately becomes a vocal anchor in the Lakers' backcourt. But for some, the story shouldn't end there. Robert Williams III: The Ideal Reunion Target Analyst Caleb Hightower suggests that the Los Angeles Lakers should look to reunite Smart with Robert Williams III, his former teammate in Boston. 'Before the offseason ends, though, the Lakers should cut ties with a 6-foot-10 forward and reunite Smart with his 27-year-old former Boston Celtics teammate,' writes Hightower. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Struggling With Belly Fat? Why the Los Angeles Lakers Should Consider Trading Maxi Kleber Maxi Kleber, while a solid rotational big man, has struggled with consistency and health in recent seasons. By moving Kleber, along with guard Gabe Vincent and a future second-round pick, the Los Angeles Lakers could potentially land Williams and enhance their interior presence behind Deandre Ayton. Proposed Trade Package To Portland To Los Angeles Maxi Kleber Robert Williams III Gabe Vincent Future 2nd-round pick This move would free up cap flexibility and bring in a center who already shares chemistry with Smart. Moreover, Williams' relentless motor and defensive instincts make him an ideal fit alongside elite playmakers like Doncic and James. Concerns Around Williams' Injury History Despite his potential, Robert Williams comes with notable injury concerns. Since leaving Boston after the 2022–23 season, the 27-year-old has only managed to appear in 26 regular-season games across two years in Portland. His health has become a recurring issue, raising valid questions about his long-term durability. Still, for a team seeking championship contention, calculated risks are often part of the process. Robert Williams: Risk vs. Reward Pros • Elite rim protector • Strong chemistry with Marcus Smart • High field goal percentage and energy • Proven playoff experience Cons • History of injuries • Limited availability • Could require load management Reuniting Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III could give the Los Angeles Lakers a defensive identity that hasn't been seen in years. While Williams isn't a guaranteed game-changer due to his health, his upside and history with Smart make him a compelling target. The Lakers have already started - adding Williams might be the next smart step in completing the puzzle. Also read: NBA Trade Rumors: Golden State Warriors Target $35.25 Million Toronto Raptors Big Man as Al Horford Backup Plan As Caleb Hightower points out, it's a reunion that 'would not pair Smart with a familiar face, but also give the Los Angeles Lakers a more proven backup center option.'
