Delhi cops extorted Rs 25k, kicked me on chest: Malda woman
"They (Delhi cops) showed the CCTV footage of me returning home with my children but not the footage of them thrashing me near Mangalam Hospital or torturing us at a police station," Sajnur Parveen, originally from Malda's Chanchal and who now stays in the slums of Shri Ram Chowk in East Delhi's Pandav Nagar with her six-member family, said at a press conference organised by the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata on Wednesday.
The woman and her family have been in the eye of a political storm after Delhi Police took the unusual step of publicly rebutting another state's CM's X post. Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Sunday evening had narrated on X the family's harrowing experience, calling the thrashing of a mother and her one-and-a-half-year-old son "terrible and atrocious". The family has now lodged a complaint against Delhi Police excesses at Kolkata's Pragati Maidan police station.

Parveen claimed on Wednesday that her husband, Mukhtar Khan, was away at work when four cops came to their home last week. "They asked me to show our Aadhaar, which I was getting out, when they asked me where my husband was. They alleged we were Bangladeshis and warned us not to go anywhere before leaving with our papers," she added.
Four cops, two of them women, returned the next day (last Saturday) around 11.30 am. "They told us to accompany them and called us Bangladeshis again.
I was taking my daughter for her bath and my son was wearing only a T-shirt. I took him along with me in that state. The moment we reached a secluded spot (I could not say where exactly but they said it was near Mangalam Hospital), they started beating me and asked me my husband's whereabouts, all the time calling us Bangladeshis.
They slapped me twice when I protested," Parveen said.
She was then told to chant "Jai Shri Ram".
"I said I was a Muslim and could not do what they said, prompting them to kick me. I was already unwell and my son fell from my grip when they tried to snatch him away. Then they slapped him as well. He still has weals near his ear," Parveen recounted on Wednesday. "They demanded Rs 25,000 for letting me go. I gave them my husband's number, after which they let me talk to him. My husband called his mother, who arranged for the money.
They left us only after getting the money," Parveen said.
But that was not the end of their ordeal as cops and mediapersons landed at their door the same evening (Saturday). "They took us to a police station where they separated me from my husband. It was here that they asserted that anyone from Bengal was a Bangladeshi. They did not even let the children stay with me," she added.
"They let us go very late that night but told us we would not be spared if we dared talk about the incident in Bengal.
'Khel hoga (the Trinamool slogan of 'Khela hobe' in Hindi)', they told us," Parveen said at the press conference as Azmal Khan, her father-in-law, said they might be poor but were not "staging any drama".
CM Banerjee first posted about the incident on Sunday and Delhi Police waited till Tuesday to call the video "fabricated and politically motivated".
Trinamool latched on to the family's allegations, with state urban development minister and Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim saying they had exposed the "conspiracy" to prove CM Banerjee wrong. The state would take the responsibility of all migrant workers and their families returning from other states, he added.

Fake two-wheeler spare parts and engine oil racket busted in Delhi, 5 arrested
The Delhi Police Crime Branch Saturday claimed to have arrested five people allegedly involved in the manufacturing and selling of fake two-wheeler spare parts and engine oil in North West and Central Delhi. Harsh Indora, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), said the police seized a large quantity of fake automobile spare parts and engine oils worth approximately Rs 10 lakh, preventing their circulation in the market. He said The police received specific intelligence regarding the manufacture and sale of counterfeit products, including two-wheeler spare parts and engine oil, bearing the trademarks of reputed companies such as Honda Motorcycle, ASK, and TVS Motors. 'Acting on the directions of senior officers, the information was further developed, and contact was established with the authorised legal representatives of the companies. On July 15, a dedicated team led by Inspector Ajay Gahlawat under the close supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashok Sharma was constituted,' Indora said. He said the police conducted a raid at the Madanpur Dabas village in North West Delhi, and recovered a significant quantity of counterfeit two-wheeler engine oils, empty bottles, and packing materials bearing the branding of Honda and TVS Automobiles. Subsequently, on July 25, following further leads provided by the authorised legal representatives of Honda Motorcycle, ASK, and TVS Motors, the police undertook another raid at a shop in Nai Wala Market in Karol Bagh and Madanpur Dabas. This operation led to the recovery of a substantial stock of counterfeit two-wheeler spare parts and packaging materials of Honda and ASK, said the police. The police said during interrogation, an accused, Shubham Panjiyar, 29, of Uttam Nagar in West Delhi, confessed to being involved in the sale and purchase of counterfeit vehicle spare parts since 2020. He also disclosed his prior involvement in a similar case registered at Nihal Vihar area under the Copyright Act, said the police, adding that her revealed the names of co-accused: Shubham Panjiyar, Himanshu Kawatra, Naveen alias Deepak Taneja, Ramakant Chaurasia and Shyam Narain. The police said further investigation is underway to identify the broader network behind this illegal activity. These coordinated operations have dealt a significant blow to the illegal counterfeit trade and reaffirmed the Delhi Police Crime Branch's commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and brand integrity, the DCP said.

Previous govt neglected farmers' welfare, alleges Nimmala
Rajamahendravaram: Water resources minister Dr Nimmala Rama Naidu accused the previous YSRCP government of reducing crucial input subsidies from Rs 20,000 to Rs 16,000 and failing to clear Rs 1,600 crore in pending dues to farmers. He said the neglect of farmer welfare between 2019 and 2024 has now been reversed with the present government's renewed focus on agricultural support. Launching the first phase of the Annadata Sukhibhava-PM Kisan 2025–26 scheme at Kovvur on Saturday, the minister reaffirmed that the government is fulfilling its election promise by extending Rs 20,000 investment assistance to every eligible farmer in three installments. He stated that Rs 7,000 each has already been credited into the bank accounts of 1.14 lakh farmers in East Godavari district, amounting to Rs 79 crore. In Kovvur constituency alone, 14,884 farmers received cheques worth Rs 10.41 crore. He pointed out that under the previous TDP-led regime from 2014 to 2019, several beneficial schemes were initiated, such as soil health cards and farm equipment distribution, but were later ignored by the succeeding government. Despite prevailing economic challenges, the current administration is committed to comprehensive farmer welfare, he asserted. Rama Naidu also announced that tenant farmers will receive their share of support in the second and third phases, due in October and January. Further, Rs 350 crore has been sanctioned for repairs to major irrigation projects, and a new lift irrigation scheme will be implemented to address flooding and water access issues in Dowleswaram and Daravaram areas. Kovvur MLA Muppidi Venkateswara Rao, who presided over the event, clarified that the Rs 20,000 support package includes Rs 6,000 under the PM-Kisan scheme and Rs 14,000 from the state government. 18,573 farmers benefit from ‘Annadata Sukhibhava' in Vizag
Visakhapatnam: Welfare schemes and development programmes are being implemented in the state as part of achieving Swarna Andhra Pradesh goals, said district In-charge Minister Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy. Speaking at the fund release programme of the first phase of district-level 'Annadata Sukhibhava' held at Gajuwaka here on Saturday, the minister said that 18,573 farmers in Visakhapatnam district form a part of the beneficiaries' list. The district In-Charge Minister mentioned that with an aim of providing employment to the youth, land allocations are being made to the industrialists and special measures are taken by focusing on CRZ encroachments. Speaking on the occasion, Telugu Desam Party state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao stated that the coalition government is implementing every promise made during the election campaign. He informed that the government is giving priority to horticultural crops and encouraged the urban residents to take advantage of the opportunity. North constituency MLA P Vishnu Kumar Raju stated that the schemes being implemented by the Central and State governments will benefit the poor and farmers. DCCB chairman Kona Tatarao opined that good governance is prevailing in the state. District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad informed that the financial assistance of Rs.12.90 crore received by the farmers of the district through the scheme will be directly deposited in their accounts.
