Azule Energy and partners announce gas discovery in Angola's Block 1/14

Yahoo21 hours ago
Azule Energy has announced a gas discovery at the Gajajeira-01 exploration well in Block 1/14, in the Lower Congo Basin, offshore Angola.
The Gajajeira-01 well was drilled in a water depth of 95m and 60km off the coast, where it encountered promising hydrocarbon-bearing formations in one of the Lower Oligocene targets, designated LO100.
Azule Energy is an incorporated joint venture (IJV) equally owned by BP and Eni. It owns a 35% interest in Block 1/14 while Equinor and Sonangol E&P hold 30% and 25% respectively, with the remaining 10% held by Acrep.
Spud on 1 April 2025, the well revealed more than 30m of net pay, with preliminary results suggesting good reservoir mobility.
Advanced formation evaluation and monitoring tools were employed to ensure drilling operations met high safety standards.
Initial assessments of the well indicate significant gas volumes in place, potentially exceeding one trillion cubic feet, along with up to 100 million barrels of associated condensate.
This discovery confirms the presence of a working hydrocarbon system in the Lower Congo Basin, presenting new exploration opportunities.
Azule Energy CEO Adriano Mongini said: 'This is a landmark moment for gas exploration in Angola. Gajajeira-01 is the country's first dedicated gas exploration well, and its success reinforces our confidence in the potential of the Lower Congo Basin. We are proud to contribute to Angola's long-term energy development with a focus on sustainability and energy security.'
Azule Energy is committed to further evaluating the Gajajeira-01 discovery's full potential. Working closely with its Block 1/14 partners, the company aims to devise an optimal development strategy.
The ongoing drilling campaign will now target the Lower Oligocene interval LO300.
Additionally, Azule Energy engaged Aker Solutions under a long-term frame agreement in June 2024 for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for maintenance and modifications on two FPSO units in Angola.
The three-year contract has the possibility of being extended for another two years.

Tyranna to acquire 70% stake in Angola's Maongo copper-gold project

Tyranna Resources is set to acquire a 70% interest in the Maongo copper-gold project, situated near the port city of Namibe in Angola. The move is part of the company's initiative to appraise projects with copper prospectivity and suitable for modern exploration techniques. Upon completion of negotiations with the Angolan National Resource Management (ANRM) authority, Tyranna will commence work to expand known targets. This includes geological mapping, soil geochemistry and geophysical surveys, with broader exploration programmes to follow. The deal includes an initial payment of Kz50,000,000 ($50,000) to the vendor, Exploração Mineira (OCJAF), which grants Tyranna the exclusive right to complete the transaction after due diligence. Tyranna is responsible for covering any fees OCJAF incurs related to the application process. Upon the granting of the prospecting licence, Tyranna will owe OCJAF Kz150,000,000. Should the exploration yield positive outcomes, Tyranna is required to allocate shares valued at $200,000 to OCJAF. Angolan holding company Maongo LDA will become the registered owner of the project, with Tyranna's Angolan subsidiary holding a 70% stake and OCJAF retaining 30%. Tyranna managing director David Crook stated: 'The company previously flagged that it is actively looking for projects that would fit well with our broader strategy, targeting demand-driven metals in Angola. 'The Maongo project is the first to meet our criteria, where prospectivity for copper and gold is evident in an area with good access, in an uncomplicated operating environment. 'The sites of mining and treatment artifacts were confirmed by company field staff during our due diligence period, and concession approval documentation is currently being advanced with the Agência Nacional dos Recursos Minerais (ANRM), Tyranna's 30% partner, OCJAF and the company's 70% Angolan subsidiary, Maongo, LDA. The concession is expected to be granted during the September 2025 quarter.' Great Northern extends payment dates for Colorado uranium project

Canadian exploration and development company Great Northern Energy Metals (GNEM) has announced an amendment to its existing option agreement with Ventura Uranium (Nuvemco) and individual Paul Szilagyi. The original option agreement, dated 20 August 2024, granted the company the exclusive right to acquire up to a 100% interest in the uranium project based in Colorado. This acquisition is to be executed through a two-stage option to purchase all membership interests in NUV2C, a limited liability company holding the legal and beneficial title to the property. Nuvemco currently holds a 99% stake in NUV2C, with Paul Szilagyi owning the remaining 1%. The amendment extends the due dates for the first cash and common share payments for a uranium project. The new deadline for these payments is now set for 18 July 2025. The fourth amendment agreement, signed on 11 July 2025, alters the payment schedule but leaves the rest of the option and assignment agreements unchanged. These agreements have been in place since the assignment of the optionee's obligations to GNEM on 8 May 2025. In addition to the amendment, GNEM has disclosed the terms of a finder's fee agreement with an independent contractor. This agreement was for services rendered in identifying the opportunity to enter into the assignment agreement and acquiring the membership interests in NUV2C. The company will pay the finder 5% of the value of the total number of common shares to be issued under the option agreement. In June 2024, GNEM announced its intention to launch a brokered private placement to raise $2m. The private placement involves offering up to 5.715 million common shares at $0.35 each. This strategic move is aimed at generating funds to support the company's financial commitments, including those related to its uranium projects in Colorado.
