Hyderabad: The TG Anti Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) officials on Monday busted an e-cigarette racket and arrested two people. The officials seized 1,217 e-cigarettes worth Rs 25 lakh from their possession. The arrested were identified as Sadiq Lalani and his brother Anil Lalani, natives of Nampally.
According to Sandeep Shandilya, TGANB director, the duo was selling banned e-cigarettes and vapes to the youth and school-going children. "They created a WhatsApp group with nearly 500 people in the name of 'SID'. They regularly share advertisements of the new products in the group. The group members purchase them by making online payments," Shandilya further said.
Amit, a native of New Delhi, and Waseem from Mumbai, were supplying the e-cigarettes to Sadiq and Anil. "If the payments are above Rs 50,000, the duo uses the services of hawala operators — Mangi Ramji Goutham and CR Sharma — both from Hyderabad," he said.
The officials found that the accused even used the services of transport aggregators and courier services to deliver e-cigarettes and vapours to the end users, who place the order over the phone. "Aggregators and courier companies will be held responsible for not verifying what is being picked up for delivery," Shandilya said.

Meanwhile, the police identified 13 juveniles who were involved in the network. "From the bank transactions, a conservative estimate can be made that they did e-cigarette sales to the tune of around Rs 1 crore in Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh. E-cigarettes have 20 times more nicotine content and are addictive. All the accused are liable for 1-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh if convicted," the director further said.

MP horror: Dalit youths stripped, beaten with chilli paste; cops accused of brutal abuse of power

BHOPAL: Four Dalit youths have accused police in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district of illegal detention and custodial torture. The youths claim they were stripped, beaten for four days, and had chilli powder rubbed into their private parts to force a confession in a theft case. The victims, residents of the Kanjadpur Dharampura area, said they were returning from a housewarming ceremony on July 15 when they stopped to urinate by the roadside. A Dial-100 police vehicle allegedly picked them up without explanation. One youth, who is disabled, was released, while the remaining four were taken to the police station, hung upside down, beaten with belts, and tortured. Police had earlier claimed to have arrested five individuals for stealing transformer oil. The incident triggered protests by Bhim Army workers and the victims' families, who marched to the SP office demanding action under the SC/ST Act and suspension of the accused policemen. A sit-in was staged outside the SP office, where authorities responded by locking the gates and cutting power to the premises. DIG Lalit Shakyawar later visited the site and assured that a medical examination would be conducted and action taken after investigation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dubai's Next Icon: Experience Binghatti Aquarise Luxury Binghatti Developers FZE Learn More Undo Three of the victims have since undergone medical tests. Families also allege that one of the five detained youths is missing and fear he may have died in custody. A victim's father-in-law further accused the police of threatening him with arrest and eviction from government land if the protest continued. Former Congress MLA Neeraj Dixit also visited the protest site and demanded justice. A heavy police force from multiple stations has been deployed. Investigations are currently underway.
