Pennock eyes chance for more European memories
"The last time we made it, getting through one round was massive. We really enjoyed both trips away and we gave a good account of ourselves."The boys who were here then have memories for a lifetime. The players who have joined us since have heard all about it so they know what it means too."
After finishing seventh in 2022-23, Haverfordwest overcame Cardiff Met and Newtown in the Cymru Premier play-offs to secure their European place.Having missed out on a play-off place last year on goal difference. Haverfordwest go straight into the final this time around courtesy of their league position, though that does mean they have not played a game since 19 April. They had the best defensive record in the Cymru Premier this season and lost just seven of their 32 league games. That impressive form has seen Pennock touted as a potential candidate to take over at League Two Newport County this summer. The 54-year-old has been in charge at Haverfordwest for three years having previously coached at Hull City and Swansea City."I have had lots and calls and messages about the Newport speculation, but there has been no contact," Pennock said."It's nice to be linked with things I suppose, but my focus is on Haverfordwest County."

Ian Wright names England's key mistake in first half of Women's Euro 2025 final against Spain
Ian Wright criticised Lauren Hemp 's decision making after the winger missed a golden chance to give England the lead in the first half of their Euro 2025 final with Spain. Hemp found herself with the first clear sight of goal for either side after good work by Lauren James helped hurry Spanish goalkeeper Catalina Coll and turnover possession in the box. The 24-year-old Manchester City forward steadied herself before firing a low shot from a tight angle which Coll saved well with her left foot, when James had been waiting alongside Hemp with a far clearer sight of goal. And the miss proved costly, as Spain took the lead soon afterwards when Mariona Caldentey headed home in the 25th minute. Ona Batlle whipped in a cross from the right, after good work by Aitana Bonmati, and Caldentey steered it powerfully past a stranded Hannah Hampton in the England goal. Wright said it was a huge moment in the half. 'I think she has to pass that,' said Wright. 'If she does, [James] gets a tap-in. An unbelievable chance ... she has to cut that back to Lauren James.' Wright said England were 'off it' in the first period and lacked sharpness to match Spain.

Newcastle braced for Liverpool offer for Alexander Isak as Bayern Munich's Luis Diaz breakthrough paves way for fresh approach - with Eddie Howe making telling admission on star striker's future
Newcastle are braced for a formal offer from Liverpool for Alexander Isak this week after Eddie Howe revealed there is no chance of their want-away striker joining the squad here in the Far East. The 25-year-old is on Tyneside after ruling himself out of the club's pre-season tour with a thigh injury. Subsequent scans were thought to be clear but he will remain at home. Isak wants to join Liverpool and, with the Premier League champions set to bank £65million from the sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, an official approach is now expected. That will leave Newcastle's owners with a decision to make, as Howe admitted this weekend. They must choose between negotiating and extracting maximum value for the player, or refuse all offers and tell Isak he is staying. Even within the camp here in Singapore, opinion is split as to which approach is best for the club. The message from above remains that they want to keep their best players, but Isak making it clear he wants to go could force the owners into making a business decision, especially if Liverpool's offer approaches £150million. After confirming to Mail Sport that Isak will not be joining the team in South Korea during the next seven days, Howe addressed the issue of his players being distracted by the situation. 'It's business as usual for the players,' said the Newcastle boss. 'Naturally we're going to miss a player of Alex's quality and the group are going to feel that. 'There's no denying that. I can't sit here and claim that they won't. But they're a very a professional group of players and they're doing brilliantly as far as I can see in terms of managing the situation.' Newcastle remain in talks for Brentford's Yoane Wissa, while RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson are also on the shortlist. Howe, speaking after Sunday's 3-2 defeat by Arsenal, added: 'We're not deluded. 'We know we need to bring players in. We've known that for a long time. We did a lot of work (at the end of last season), we knew what we wanted. But it's been a challenging transfer window. Let's see what we can do.'
