TYNE-SLIDE Bruno Guimaraes escapes red card after moment of madness in Newcastle's 'friendly' against Tottenham
NEWCASTLE star Bruno Guimaraes was lucky to escape a red card after putting his hands round Cristian Romero's throat in a pre-season friendly.
The South Americans came to blows during Newcastle's summer warm-up game against Spurs in South Korea on Sunday.

Bruno Guimaraes somehow escaped a red card after STRANGLING Spurs defender Cristian Romero
The incident came just before half-time at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, following a running battle between the two South American stars.
Newcastle midfielder Guimaraes had ridden a wild challenge from Spurs vice-captain Romero just outside the penalty area.
The Brazilian was then shoved to the floor in the box by Romero when trying to make space as the Toon were on the attack.
Guimaraes reacted angrily to the push, getting up off the floor and putting both hands round Romero's neck.

It would usually be a sending-off in the Premier League, and Romero was seen making that case to Guimaraes' team-mate and fellow centre-back Fabian Schar.
But in light of this game being a pre-season friendly, ex-Lyon man Guimaraes escaped punishment.
The incident was a flash point during a lively first half which was largely a love-in to South Korean icon Son Heung-min, who announced before the game he intends to leave Spurs after ten years this summer.
Brennan Johnson netted an opener for Tottenham - doing Son's trademark 'camera pose' in celebration - before Harvey Barnes' banger levelled the score, three minutes before Romero and Guimaraes' scuffle.

Liverpool youngster joins Lyon for €10 million

LIVERPOOL MIDFIELDER Tyler Morton has joined Ligue 1 club Lyon on a five-year contract, the French outfit announced on Tuesday. The 22-year-old arrives from the Premier League champions for a fee of €10 million. Advertisement 'Olympique Lyonnais announce the arrival of midfielder Tyler Morton from Liverpool. The English youth international has signed a five-year contract, which will run until June 30, 2030,' Lyon wrote in a statement on the club's website. Morton joined Liverpool's academy at the age of seven and signed his first professional contract with the Reds at the age of 17. He made 14 appearances for the first team and spent two loan periods in the English second division — at Blackburn and Hull. Capped 13 times at U21 level for England, Morton was a central figure as the team were crowned European champions in June. The defensive midfielder was responsible for setting up the winning goal in the final against Germany with a pinpoint cross onto the head of Jonathan Rowe. – © AFP 2025

Benjamin Sesko facing Man Utd or Newcastle decision dilemma with Amorim willing to flog Hojlund to make room for him

BENJAMIN SESKO could choose his Premier League dream team after Manchester United rivalled Newcastle with a £74million offer. Toon are also working on a deal for RB Leipzig striker Sesko, 22, after lodging a similar bid earlier this week but United have now made their move. 8 Benjamin Sesko is a top target for both Man United and Newcastle Credit: Getty 8 Ruben Amorim will make space in the team for Sesko Credit: Getty 8 Eddie Howe also wants Sesko to strengthen his frontline Credit: AFP The Red Devils offered an initial £65m plus around £8.9m in performance-related add-ons. The Slovenia striker will train away from his team-mates on Wednesday morning in Germany as both Prem clubs fight for his signature. Leipzig hope that a bidding war cranks up over the next few days to drive up the price. If both offers remain the same, Sesko could be able to pick between which club he wants to join after telling BOTH he is open to a move. Liverpool summer sales hit €170m as Tyler Morton joins Lyon in €17m deal

The England U-21 international, who made 14 first-team appearances for Liverpool, joined the Ligue Un club after passing a medical. Liverpool also have a 20pc sell-on clause for Morton if the 22-year-old, who helped England win the European U-21 Championships in June, continues to improve. But the Premier League champions are confident they have enough options in midfield to countenance his sale, with Stefan Bajcetic another defensive midfielder and James McConnell and the promising Trey Nyoni also able to offer back-up to regulars like Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones. Morton has spent the last two seasons on loan at Blackburn and Hull, making 87 appearances for the Championship clubs. Liverpool have also sold Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhín Kelleher and Nat Phillips this summer while Darwin Nunez and Ben Doak could also leave. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are considering returning to a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. Guehi has been a target for Liverpool this summer but was the subject of a large bid from Newcastle last summer. This year, it is thought that the Magpies value him at £40m, though Palace's valuation is more like £50m.
