
UAE strongly condemns attack on monastery in Myanmar
The attack resulted in the deaths of a number of innocent civilians, including children.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the UAE expresses its strong condemnation of these criminal acts, which aim to destabilise security and stability.
The Ministry expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and the friendly people of Myanmar over this heinous attack.
At least 23 people were confirmed dead, including four children, witnesses had said on Friday.
The monastery housed around 200 people displaced by nearby fighting between the army and pro-democracy forces.

National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals convenes high-level meeting discussing UAE delegation's participation ahead of UN summit UAE – Dubai, 13 July, 2025 - The United Arab Emirates delegation will participate in the upcoming 2025 United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) at UN Headquarters in New York. The delegation will showcase the UAE's comprehensive development model, reaffirming its commitment to accelerate progress toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through multinational partnerships. The UAE delegation includes members from the UAE's National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Investment, The Government Experience Exchange Programme, Dubai Chamber of Commerce, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, and Noor Dubai Foundation (under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives), in coordination with the UAE's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. In addition, the delegation will highlight initiatives in clean energy, digital transformation, education, and healthcare. As part of the preparations for the UAE's participation, the National Committee on the SDGs held an extensive meeting to assess the readiness of the delegation and review progress on the implementation of the SDGs. The meeting explored opportunities to expand international cooperation and sign new agreements during the Forum. Sheikh Mohammed spoke of his 'immense pride' in the achievements of the young learners and urged them to continue on their path to the top at a gathering held at Union House in Dubai. He said knowledge and learning remained fundamental pillars for the country's progress and praised the contributions of teachers in moulding the next generation's brightest and best. Sheikh Mohammed's praise came after he last month named the UAE's top-performing high school pupils in both public and private education sector following summer exams, in a congratulatory social media post. Following the meeting on Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed reinforced the crucial role of education in providing a launch pad for sustained success. 'We celebrate the achievements of the nation's top students and extend our appreciation to their families and teachers, whose support was essential to this success,' Sheikh Mohammed said, in remarks shared by Dubai Media Office. Emiratis in deadly Oman road accident airlifted back to the UAE
Emirati citizens injured in a deadly road accident in Oman on Friday have been airlifted back to the UAE for further medical treatment, following a co-ordinated rescue operation. The joint mission, led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa) in co-ordination with the National Search and Rescue Centre of the National Guard, the Air Force and Air Defence Command, transferred the injured by air ambulance to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Fujairah to continue their treatment after receiving initial medical care in Oman. According to the Royal Oman Police, five people lost their lives in the crash – including three Emirati citizens. While eleven other sustained injuries of varying severity. Among the injured were five children. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, which remains continuing. In a report on state news agency, Wam, Mofa and the National Guard offered their condolences and sympathies to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to all the injured. Mofa also expressed its appreciation for the Omani authorities' swift response and close co-operation with the UAE Embassy in Muscat. The government has reminded all UAE citizens to exercise caution when travelling by road, adhere to traffic laws and strictly observe speed limits to ensure their safety and that of others.
