Monday brought some good news for a few hopefuls. Zack Fischer, Carson Herron, Petr Hruby and Josh Radcliff all earned their spots into the John Deere Classic through open qualifying. For these golfers, it's a huge opportunity to tee it up alongside seasoned pros on a course known for giving up red numbers.

Meanwhile, there was also a small shuffle in the field. Davis Riley withdrew from the event, opening a spot that was quickly filled by Austin Cook. With a full field of 156 ready to attack one of the friendliest scoring tracks on tour, there's no shortage of storylines to watch.
Add in possible weather shifts over the weekend and the anniversary of TPC Deere Run hosting its 25th John Deere Classic, and fans can expect both drama and fireworks on and off the course.

MLB Announces Juan Soto News Before Subway Series originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Mets and Yankees enter the second iteration of the Subway Series in a mutual tailspin. The Mets come with a two-game winning streak and a series win over the Brewers, while the Yankees dropped to second in the AL East for the first time since April following a four-game sweep by the Blue Jays. Advertisement While Friday will be the first game of a tepid matchup between crosstown foes, Mets star Juan Soto has put his foot on the gas since the Mets' mid-May series loss in the Bronx. So much so, in fact, that the MLB made a huge announcement on Soto Friday. New York Mets right fielder Juan Soto (22)© Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Soto was announced to be one of three outfielders on MLB's June Team of the Month, along with Byron Buxton and Ronald Acuña Jr. Soto slashed .322/.474/.722 in the month of June, with an absurd 11 home runs, tying his August 2020 career-high for one month and joined Darryl Strawberry as the only Mets player in history with 10+ homers and 20+ walks in a month. Advertisement Soto failed to make the All-Star Game this year, and finished fifth in voting among NL outfielders, behind Acuña, along with Cubs stars Pete Crow-Armstrong and Kyle Tucker. Dodgers star Teoscar Hernandez finished ahead of him as the fourth-place finisher. Soto's announcement follows a month where he has certainly played to his contract value, and has captivated Mets fans who are excited to see their marquee star swinging a hot bat. The Reds activated the third baseman - and pitcher Graham Ashcraft - on Friday. Cincinnati manager Terry Francona immediately put Marte back into the lineup in the July 4 afternoon game against the Philadelphia Phillies, incidentally the first team Francona managed at the major-league level. Aaron Doster-Imagn Images Marte slashed .294/.342/.515 with three home runs 17 RBIs in 19 games before the injury. He had begun to take over as the Reds' everyday third baseman, over then-starter Jeimer Candelario, who has since been released, when he went on the IL. Advertisement Marte ranked as the No. 92, No. 73, No. 18, No. 63 and No. 23-ranked prospect each year by Baseball America from 2020 to 2024. Phillies Demote Rookie Abel After Struggles
Phillies Demote Rookie Abel After Struggles originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Mick Abel's first start in Major League Baseball looked like the stuff of a future Philadelphia Phillies rotation regular. Advertisement Things didn't go so swimmingly in each subsequent appearance and on Friday, the Phillies demoted the rookie right-hander back to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. They called up Seth Johnson in his stead. Abel pitched six innings of five-hit ball with nine strikeouts and zero earned runs in his debut May 18 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was sent back down to the minors shortly after because of the nature of the spot-start, but he returned in early June and wasn't the same pitcher. In his last outing, Wednesday against the San Diego Padres, Abel worked just 1 2/3 innings, giving up five runs, all earned, on two hits and five walks. For the season, Abel carried a 5.04 ERA with a 1.360 WHIP over his six starts. A lanky, 6-foot-5, 185-pound right-hander, Abel was taken 15th overall by the Phillies in the 2020 Draft out of Beaverton, Oregon. He ranked as the No. 5 prospect in the organization ahead of this season and pitched to a 2.53 ERA over 10 starts this year at Lehigh Valley. Advertisement Johnson, a compensatory first-round pick in 2019, was the Phillies' No. 13 prospect entering the season. He's had two previous stints in the bigs this season in Philadelphia, the second of which just two days ago when the Phillies were allowed to use a 27th player because of their double-header. The Phillies entered Friday's Independence Day games leading the National League West by 1 1/2 games over the New York Mets.
