Glasgow offers plenty of green spaces and parks for enjoying the sunshine, but if you're craving a change of scenery, Glasgow Live rounded up some fantastic lesser-known spots within easy reach of the city. Whether you fancy a coastal trip for classic fish and chips or a family adventure in Dumfries and Galloway, these destinations promise something special for everyone.
Close to home...
Chatelherault Country Park
Just 25 minutes from Glasgow near Hamilton, Chatelherault is one of Scotland's oldest and most beautifully designed estates. It's a perfect family day out, especially if you have pets, with plenty to explore. The striking country house features an in-house coffee shop to refuel, while the grounds boast immaculate greens, stunning views, woodland walks, and even an adventure park where kids can burn off energy. On Sundays, visitors can browse the local market for unique finds.
Caldermill Waterfall
Popular with cyclists, Caldermill Waterfall in Lochwinnoch lies just 40 minutes from Glasgow. True to its name, it features a charming waterfall tumbling beside a cycle path, making it a scenic and refreshing spot to visit.

Crawick Multiverse

Jupiter Artland

Wildlife watchers might spot deer, badgers, squirrels, or even the occasional eagle.

Delta Airines, one of the most prominent US carriers, is stepping into this new era by applying AI to one of its most complex operations: ticket pricing. From Experiment to Expansion The Atlanta-based airline initially rolled out AI-driven pricing on 1% of its ticket inventory last fall. This first test allowed prices to be set dynamically, sometimes based on how much a customer was willing to pay. Now, according to travel site The Points Guy, Delta is preparing to scale that effort. By the end of 2025, AI is expected to be responsible for setting ticket prices on up to 20% of the airline's domestic flights. Delta has committed to testing this system over the next 18 to 24 months to evaluate its effectiveness – and if it performs as hoped, AI pricing could become a long-term fixture in the company's pricing strategy. The Goal: Personalization and Precision Delta's customer-centric approach appears to be paying off in other areas too. The airline topped The Points Guy's annual rankings for US carriers for the seventh year running and was also named the most reliable on-time airline in the country. Challengers and Concerns While the airline is optimistic about AI's potential, it's not without challenges. Some travelers may worry that personalized pricing could lead to higher fares for certain customers, or raise concerns about transparency in how prices are determined. And not all recent news around Delta has been positive. Earlier this month, a flap from the left wing of a Delta flight traveling from Atlanta to Raleigh-Durham detached midair and landed in a North Carolina neighborhood. Fortunately, the flight landed safely. A Delta spokesperson confirmed the flap had 'evidently separated' during the flight, though no injuries occurred. What It Means for Travelers For now, most Delta passengers won't see a major change in how they book flights. But as AI gradually takes over a larger share of pricing decisions, travelers may notice fare fluctuations that feel more tailored – or less predictable. Whether this shift leads to better deals or greater pricing complexity remains to be seen. What's clear is that Delta is betting big on AI to help it stay ahead in a highly competitive industry – and other airlines may soon follow.

Now in its 29th year, the gongs celebrate establishments that go the extra mile, from meticulous housekeeping and memorable breakfasts to authentic service and unforgettable stays. This year's winners impressed AA inspectors with their individuality, attention to detail, and unwavering dedication to guest experience. Simon Numphud, Managing Director at AA Hotel & Hospitality Services, said: 'These awards shine a light on the brilliant people and places that make Britain's B&B scene truly world class. 'This year's winners represent everything that's special about independent UK hospitality. Taking top spot in Inn of the Year is The Colintraive on the Isle of Bute. With four cosy rooms, it's just on the edge of The Loch Lomond National Park. The Colintraive is located on 'Argylls Secret Coast' with views onto the narrow channel that separates the mainland from the Isle of Bute. Judges said: 'This is an ideal base for touring, with the Isles of Bute, Islay, Arran, Jura and Gigha within easy reach. 'The well-appointed bedrooms are very comfortable and fantastic food is served in the bar and restaurant, using the best from both land and sea. Craft beers and an array of malts are available.' In the Restaurant with Rooms category, The Dipping Lugger in Ullapool came out on top. Inside Scots hotel where you can stay in Outlander heart-throb's room and take an e-bike ride from your doorstep On the banks of Loch Broom, the 18th-century former manse has been transformed into a wonderful restaurant with three luxurious rooms. The judges said: 'It offers the highest levels of service as well as hospitality backed up with a stunning dining experience. 'The property takes its name from a sailing boat and much of the design has a nautical theme. 'Luxurious bedrooms cater well for the modern guest while the open log fires and the drawing room reflect the character of the property and its heritage. Local provenance is used to good effect in the restaurant.' The AA Scottish B&B of the year went to The Townhouse in Perth. This traditional, Georgian terraced property enjoys a great location in the heart of the city centre and several of the large beautifully appointed rooms benefit from great views over picturesque South Inch Park. The judges commented: 'Luxurious beds and antique furniture sit alongside contemporary design. Breakfasts feature local and home-made produce. 'Warm and genuine hospitality is backed up with professional and attentive service. Complimentary parking is available.' Finally, the award for Friendliest B&B in the UK went to a Scottish establishment - Broad Bay House in the Isle of Lewis. Run by well-travelled couple Sue and Tom, their ethos is rooted in exceptional service, understated style, and effortless comfort. The judges said: 'From the moment you step through the door, you'll feel the warm and welcoming spirit that defines Broad Bay House. 'Every detail is thoughtfully considered to ensure your stay is not only relaxing but truly memorable – a reflection of Sue and Tom's dedication to creating something special for every guest.'

With many not wanting to go abroad this summer due to our gorgeous weather, there are many places in Scotland where the Scottish native recommend that you visit. They're all certain to take your breath away and leave you wondering why you've never visited before. 1. Whaligoe Steps, Caithness Describing the site, he mentioned it feels like "something from Game of Thrones" when you're there, a sentiment that's easy to share. The Whaligoe Steps carve their way down the cliffs just south of Wick in Caithness, situated on Scotland's northeasternmost shoreline. 2. Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, Isle of Lewis Nestled on the Atlantic coast of the Isle of Lewis, Gearrannan Blackhouse Village dates back to the 19th century and features nine meticulously restored traditional blackhouses. 3. Gateway, Edinburgh He explained: "This is called Gateway, within the grounds of Jupiter Artland". Gateway emerges as an art piece merged with a fully operational swimming pool and landscaped garden, located at the Jupiter Artland outdoor sculpture park, conceived by artist Joana Vasconcelos. 4. Cramond Island, Edinburgh He advised: "But to reach Cramond Island, cross the causeway two hours before low tide, walking along a line of concrete pillars during the safe times that are found online". Cramond Island sits amongst the cluster of islands in the Firth of Forth off the east coast of Scotland, a stone's throw from Edinburgh. It's crucial that if you do decide to make this journey, you visit during safe hours, otherwise you risk becoming marooned on the island. 5. Forvie Nature Reserve, Aberdeenshire He described the location as a "haven for wildlife," but cautioned that between April and August, visitors must "take extra care, following signs to protect breeding birds". Chris also emphasised the importance of giving seals "sufficient space" when encountering them. Forvie Nature Reserve spans nearly 1,000 hectares of sand dunes situated between the North Sea and the River Ythan estuary in Aberdeenshire. In the comments section, viewers revealed they had "never heard" of these locations previously, marvelling at their stunning beauty and expressing their desire to visit "ASAP".
