Tom Cruise's ‘Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning' takes a bigger 2-day start than ‘Dead Reckoning Part One' in India
's latest action-packed thriller
Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning
has made an impressive start at the Indian box office. The film, which released on a Saturday, opened to Rs 16.5 crore and maintained the same momentum on Sunday, bringing its 2-day total to Rs 33 crore across all languages. This marks a stronger 2-day performance than its predecessor,
Mission: Impossible
— Dead Reckoning Part One, which had collected Rs 21.05 crore over its first two days.
However, it's important to note the difference in release strategies between the two films. Dead Reckoning Part One hit Indian screens on a Wednesday, a midweek release when footfalls tend to be lower compared to weekends. It had collected Rs 12.3 crore on its opening day followed by Rs 8.75 crore on Thursday.
In contrast, The Final Reckoning benefitted from a prime weekend release, traditionally the most lucrative window for cinema business in India. With both its Saturday and Sunday collections locked at Rs 16.5 crore (early estimates for Sunday) as per Sacnilk, the film has capitalised well on the weekend buzz and Tom Cruise's solid fan following in India.Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One had collected Rs 80.6 crore in its extended weekend and it's final collection was Rs 110 crore.

While the initial numbers clearly give The Final Reckoning an edge in terms of a 2-day start, the real test will begin once the weekday figures come in. Historically, the Mission: Impossible franchise has shown steady weekday trends owing to its loyal audience base and action-packed appeal.
For now, The Final Reckoning has set the tone with a stronger opening frame, and it remains to be seen if it can sustain the momentum to surpass the lifetime business of Dead Reckoning Part One in India.

The Hunt Review: Amit Sial's Show On Rajiv Gandhi's Assassination Is Gripping
Last Updated: The Hunt is based on journalist Anirudhya Mitra's book 'Ninety Days: The True Story of the Hunt for Rajiv Gandhi's Assassins'. Another gripping thriller titled 'The Hunt' has been released on Sony LIV. Based on journalist Anirudhya Mitra's book 'Ninety Days: The True Story of the Hunt for Rajiv Gandhi's Assassins,' the show revolves around the investigation that followed Rajiv Gandhi's assassination in 1991. Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the show stars Amit Sial as DR Karthikeyan, who forms a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. To begin with, The Hunt offers a gripping and intense exploration of the investigation into the tragic death of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. It meticulously reconstructs the events surrounding the assassination and sheds light on the probe conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). By focusing on the investigative process, the makers skillfully weave a narrative that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The makers are very clear that they want prime focus to be the developments around the probe. And that is why, even with the backdrop of cross-border politics and complex socio-political layers, the makers of The Hunt managed to stick to the massive investigation launched after Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. They do not digress from their prime plot and offers a gripping tale to the viewers. The makers of The Hunt have also managed to present the pre-internet era beautifully in the show. As they reveal what happened for the 90 days after Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, they showcase how the investigation was done at a time when mobile phones, digital traces weren't traceable. Pat on the back! At a time when political thrillers are often sensationalised, the makers of The Hunt have stayed away from all of this. The show neither looks rushed nor has been sensationalised. It rather offers a very mature and informative narrative to Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. The series is a testament to the power of storytelling, drawing viewers into the world of high-stakes investigation and cat-and-mouse chases. It should also be noted that with The Hunt, director Nagesh Kukunoor has ventured into uncharted territory. While his previous works often explored themes of man-woman relationships and self-discovery, Kukunoor proves his versatility by tackling a complex and intense subject with The Hunt. Although he experimented with the thriller genre in '8×10 Tasveer," starring Akshay Kumar and Ayesha Takia, The Hunt showcases a distinct narrative approach – since it is based on a true story. One of the major highlights of the show is also Amit Sial's performance. The actor, as Karthikeyan, has delivered a standout performance. He commendably portrays the CBI officer is and able to portray different aspects of his personality pretty well. His portrayal is both authentic and compelling, making the character relatable and believable. Overall, The Hunt is a gripping watch which will be remembered not for exploring the personal aspects of its characters but for focusing on its core – the investigation. First Published:
