VTU to revamp first-year engineering curriculum from 2025-26
Addressing a press conference in Belagavi on Tuesday, VTU vice-chancellor Prof S Vidyashankar said the new curriculum will be aligned with industry requirements, with inputs taken from a wide academic base. "We are implementing a skill-based curriculum that meets the expectations of the industrial sector. We consulted over 1,350 faculty members and 3,000 students to gather feedback on the proposed changes," he stated.
One of the major highlights of the revised curriculum is the mandatory inclusion of artificial intelligence (AI) in all branches of engineering from the first semester. "This will equip students early on with tools relevant to the future of engineering and technology," the vice-chancellor added.
Addressing the progress of VTU's earlier initiative to host 50 IT companies in its administrative building on the Belagavi campus, Prof Vidyashankar admitted that the university did not receive the anticipated response from the industry.

"So far, only five companies set up their operations in the space provided. While the goal remains unchanged, industry participation is slower than expected," he noted.
The project is part of the university's long-term effort to enhance industry-academia collaboration and foster a startup-friendly ecosystem on campus.
VTU constituent college likely in Gokak
The VC also hinted at the likely establishment of a constituent engineering college in Gokak town, following a proposal made by Belagavi district minister Satish Jarkiholi. "The minister assured us of land and a building in Gokak. The university will need to sanction teaching and administrative staff. I will place a proposal before the executive council shortly and a formal decision will follow," he said.
Registrar (evaluation) Prof TN Sreenivasa was present.

With three months left for the event, officials said that efforts are underway to increase the scale and size of the event compared to the previous two editions. Apart from showcasing benefits of more than 20 sectoral policies, the state is going to focus on promoting four key policies to attract investments and offer promising opportunities to interested stakeholders. PWD prepares plan to reduce commute time at railway crossings
Lucknow: The public works department (PWD) has drawn up a comprehensive infrastructure blueprint to bring down the commute time at major railway crossings in the state. Under the 'Setu Bhandhan' initiative, a budget of Rs 1,111 crore has been earmarked which would be diverted via central road and infrastructure fund (CRIF) to take up the projects. Taking the vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath forward, PWD is coordinating closely with the railways to identify the locations where such civil works are needed as per the traffic congestion to take up the railway overbridges or underbrides as required. The Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Limited will oversee the construction and development of the 10 proposed bridges. Furthermore, CRIF will also be utilised for road-related works, including the construction of bypasses, ring roads, service lanes alongside national highways and widening and strengthening of roads. For these projects, the Yogi govt prepared an action plan for works worth Rs 136 crore, approved at the end of the last financial year. Land acquisition and utility shifting for these projects will be carried out by the state govt itself. India needs to be careful after US-Vietnam deal: Experts
India needs to tread carefully in its trade negotiations with the United States, keeping in view the terms proposed under the latter's trade deal with Vietnam, trade experts say. As per the new trade pact announced by President Donald Trump , the US will impose a flat 20% tariff, besides a 40% tariff on transshipped goods from Vietnam. Beyond a deviation from the previous commitments under the 2000 US-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), where Vietnamese goods were subject to 2-10% tariffs, the new deal seeks to tax transshipped goods, which differs from the rules of origin on which tariffs or duty concessions are based. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ултрапреносими 2-в-1 таблети - 50% отстъпка в последния ден LYH Купете сега Undo "The terms are that Vietnam will pay the United States a 20% tariff on any and all goods sent into our territory, and a 40% tariff on any transshipping," Trump said in a post on X. "India needs to be cautious as these transshipment tariffs could be a different form of 'rules of origin', which could have a detrimental impact on our pharmaceutical and electronics exports where the import component is high," said trade expert Biswajit Dhar. Live Events Indian trade negotiators are in the US since last week to thrash out a deal before the July 9 deadline for an interim deal to avoid US reciprocal tariffs, but India has hardened its stance to protect its sensitivities.
