He reached the World Cup final this month alongside Gerwyn Price for Wales, yet has been overlooked for Premier League Darts in the last two years.
Clayton, 50, joked it is because he chose the wrong walk-on song thanks to some questionable advice from his wife Ellen.
He said on the Tops and Tales podcast: 'Well, right, you could believe this or not, but I think Ellen, my wife, has cost me thousands in the Premier League because the walk-on song I wanted was Mr. Brightside.
'Serious to God. So I blame Ellen. Yeah, it was Mr Brightside, and she said, 'No, I think something else. I don't think that would be good.'

'So it's her fault. So yeah, that's true. Mr Brightside.'
The song has instead been adopted by Clayton's rival, Nathan Aspinall.
It has proved immensely popular at venues around Europe with some players claiming it has helped him get picked for the Premier League.
Clayton revealed he has spoken about the song with Aspinall, saying: 'I have told Nathan. Yeah, he just laughs. He goes, 'Thank you, Ellen.''

Darts stars Dave Chisnall and Mike De Decker were vocal in their criticism of this year's Premier League Darts selection.
De Decker shared a post which read: "Mike De Decker becomes the first player in the 20-year history of the Premier League to win a major televised on Sky Sports and not be selected. Sickening."
Nathan Aspinall hailed for classy interview after winning Darts Premier League
Chisnall did not hold back either, making it clear that he felt some players may have been picked for more than just their results at the oche.
He said: "The Premier League line-up was hardly surprising this week, but you'd have to be gutted if you were someone like a Mike de Decker or Damon Heta.
"I never expected to get a phone call – despite being World No.6 – because of how poor I've been on TV this year.
"But Mike can feel let down after his great run at The Grand Prix. Maybe being No.24 in the world counted against him.
"Nathan and Gerwyn can both feel a bit lucky in my opinion to be involved this year.
"Gezzy has had a lot going and struggled in 2024, whilst Nathan has done similarly.
"His run to the quarter-finals of the Worlds probably got him involved, that and everyone loving his Mr Brightside theme song.
"It's a great entrance, but it should be about the darts, and not your walk-on that gets you involved in these big competitions.
"Nothing against them personally, as both great lads and get on well with, but it should be about your actions on the dartboard, not on a song and a dance.
"Damo [Heta] is another who I think can feel unlucky, whilst it's good to see Chris Dobey and Steven Bunting rewarded with a spot.
"It seems like something of a changing of the guard with no Michael Smith and no Peter Wright."

She then stormed into round three for the second year running after a dominant and devastating victory over Viktoriya Tomova on Court No 3. Next up, Sonay is taking on French qualifier Diane Parry on Friday, July 4, 2025. Sonay has £152,000 in her back pocket but if she wins two sets, she will add an extra £68,000 to her bank balance. The British No.3 said: 'Obviously tennis is super expensive. 'When I was growing up, I kind of did quite a lot of tournaments on my own because I couldn't afford to pay a coach week-in, week-out. 'It helped me develop as a teenager, grow up super fast, made me much more mature. I held myself accountable to a lot of things. 'The LTA helped me massively. It came at exactly the right time. It was when I started to come on the scene and was putting together a few good wins consistently. 'They really helped to give me all the equipment and access to everything I needed to develop as well. 'I've shot up the rankings. My game style really rocketed. Wimbledon star Sonay Kartal playing for life-changing payday after struggling to afford a tennis coach 'My coaches back in the day, they would charge me I guess the lowest fee and would try to help me out as much as possible. 'I was out quite a lot of years injured as a teenager. 'I didn't pick up a racquet for a couple years. I was kind of a bit inconsistent as I was going through my teenage years.' Sonay was born in London, but grew up in Brighton with her family. Off the court, Sonay has been in a relationship with bodybuilder Luke Ogbourn. He even brought his beau a bouquet of flowers after she qualified for the first round of Wimbledon in 2024. Who is Luke Ogbourn? Luke Ogbourn is a British bodybuilder and strongman. He is best known for being in a relationship with tennis ace Sonay Kartal. Luke has been a visible and vocal supporter of Sonay, particularly during her impressive Wimbledon run last year and her first WTA singles title win at the Jasmin Open, also in 2024. Per his Instagram bio, Luke took home the silver medal at the United Kingdom's Strongest Man U23 competition in 2024, before going one better and securing gold at Iron Beasts 2024. 4 Luke Ogbourn won Iron Beasts 2024 Credit: Instagram @luke_ogbourn His profile regularly featured gym routines, rugby matches and highlights from his strongman competitions — but as of July 4, 2025, it seems to have been removed. The relationship between Sonay and Luke has been public since at least November 2023, when their first photo together appeared on Ogbourn's Instagram. Their relationship drew more attention during Wimbledon 2024 — Luke supported Sonay online and in person, sharing affectionate messages and congratulating her after matches. Despite both being athletes, Sonay said that they do not train together, telling the Express in 2024 that they "don't gym together at all". She added: 'I don't lift cars and pull cars and things like that. "Tennis is very specific training whereas he is just lifting as much weight as possibly as physically you can.' However, it is unclear whether they remain an item — Luke hasn't been spotted at Wimbledon this year. All traces of their relationship seem to have totally disappeared from social media.

And he's seemingly trying to get an early handle on the elusive Olympian ahead of what would be a shock third showdown by plastering his face on a blow-up sex doll. The former two-time unified heavyweight champion posted a video of himself holding the clothes-less doll with a picture of Usyk's face on it to his Instagram account. "That's all I want, a fair shout. And I don't believe I've got a fair shout the last two times. "That's the one I want but if I don't get that then it will be Joshua, the biggest British fight that will ever happen. "It would break all records and sell out 100,000 at Wembley in an hour. "It's a fight that I think can happen for sure if I decide to come back and the deal's right." Discussing a third option of taking on Dubiois, Fury added: "If I was to return and fight Dubois, he wouldn't land a glove on me, it would be a one-sided beatdown. "But I wish him luck in his fight against Usyk, but I would annihilate him." Usyk will be back in action on July 19, taking on IBF titleholder Daniel Dubois at Wembley for all the heavyweight marbles.
