The production designer and his crew worked on the design from March to May, and the shooting began in July.
Dhurandhar, the upcoming spy-action drama directed by Aditya Dhar, has been making waves ever since its official teaser dropped. Featuring a powerhouse ensemble cast, Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and Akshaye Khanna, the film is reportedly set in 1970s-80s Pakistan and promises a gripping mix of bloodshed, intense action and high-voltage drama. But while the teaser has fans hooked, what went on behind the scenes to bring those massive, immersive sets to life is just as fascinating.
Recently, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Dhurandhar's production designer, Saini S Johray, opened up about recreating Pakistani lanes in Thailand for the film.
It took him nearly three months to complete the 'massive" sets for Dhurandhar. He and his crew worked on the design from March to May, recce in June, and the shooting began in July. He also claimed that his team of 12 designers worked 12 hours a day, as the film was so massive. 'I think in my career, it's one of those films that has the maximum number of locations," said Johray.
Furthermore, he explained how they recreated Pakistani streets, stating that they used newspaper cuttings, old movies and headlines to grasp the geography of the specific area in Pakistan. Then they built a 6-acre set in Thailand and a huge one on Madh Island.
Why did they choose Thailand to create the sets?
The designer shared that they couldn't shoot in Mumbai with such a huge cast, and also were unable to shoot in a studio since they required a large 6-acre location. Furthermore, the shooting dates were in July, which meant that Mumbai would be experiencing heavy monsoons, so they couldn't build a set there. Therefore, they came to Thailand, where the stunning landscape was ideal for them to create a larger-than-life set.
Around 500 Thai people worked day and night for 20 days to create the massive Bhindi Bazaar set in Thailand. Talking about the process, the designer added, 'Thai people have no idea how Bhindi Bazaar looks, therefore I had to make sure everything looked really authentic and not at all like Thailand. If you look at the teaser, you won't notice it!"
Dhurandhar is set to hit the big screens on December 5, 2025.

Made in Rs 35 crore, this film became worldwide hit, earned over Rs 50 crore, hasn't released in India due to..., lead actors are... Diljit Dosanjh's Sardaar Ji caused a huge uproar in India due to Pakistani actress Hania Aamir's casting in the film. The actress made certain comments on India's Operation Sindoor following Pahalgam attack that didn't settle well with the Indian audience, and was subjected to serious boycott calls in the country. Due to growing controversy around it, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 decided to skip its theatrical release in India. On June 27, Sardaar Ji 3 released overseas and has since been making waves at the International box office. According to Sacnilk, the horror comedy grossed Rs 50 crore at overseas box office, taking its cumulative total to $6 million (INR 51 crores). North America plays a pivotal role in Sardaar Ji 3's earnings, contributing Rs 18.75 crore ($2.2 million). Pakistan comes at the second spot with Rs 7 crore ($830K) and the United Kingdom on third position with Rs 6.25 crore ($725K) collection. These figures have contributed in making Sardaar ji 3, the third-highest grossing Punjabi film in overseas history, surpassing Jatt & Juliet 3 ( Rs 57.50 crore) and Carry On Jatta 3 (Rs 46 crore). The film is expected to cross the Rs 100 crore mark internationally in the coming days, further achieving the blockbuster status. According to Industry insiders, if the film would have been released in India it would have emerged as the biggest Punjabi movie worldwide. Despite the ban in India, Diljit Dosanjh and Hania Aamir's collaboration turns out to be a huge success, as their film has achieved a massive milestone overseas. Helmed by Amar Hundal, Sardaar Ji 3 also stars renowned Punjabi actress Neeru Bajwa, along with Diljit and Hania. Months before the Pahalgam attack in April, Diljit Dosanjh had broken his silence on the controversy and Hania Aamir's casting in the film. The singer-actor said, 'Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bhut saari badi cheezen humare haath mein nahi hai. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. Toh producers ka bahut paisa laga hua hai aur jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi (When this film was made, everything was fine. We shot it in February, and at that time, the situation was normal. After that, a lot of big things happened that are not in our control. So the producers decided that since the film obviously can't release in India now, they'll release it overseas. The producers have invested a lot of money, and when the film was being made, there was no such issue.'

Who is Reham Khan, Imran Khan's former wife, who has launched new political party in Pakistan?

Reham Khan made big headlines in 2015 when she married cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan. Ten months later, the two parted ways. However, she's making news again; this time, with the formation of a new political party — the Pakistan Republic Party. And with it, she wants to take on dynastic politics and change Pakistan's political arena read more Journalist, author and former wife of Imran Khan, Reham Khan has officially entered Pakistan's political arena with the launch of her own party - the Pakistan Republic Party (PRP). File image/AFP Pakistan has multiple political parties, spanning a spectrum of ideologies. There's the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Bilawal Bhutto-led Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and many more. Now, you can add one more party to this list: the Pakistan Republic Party. And it has been formed by none other than Pakistan's ex-PM Imran Khan's former wife, Reham Khan, marking her formal entry into politics. What do we know about Reham Khan and her new party? Will it be able to challenge the major political players in Pakistan? STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Who is Reham Khan? Khan became a popular household name in Pakistan in 2015 when she married cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan. The wedding to the then PTI chief was her second one; she had earlier tied the knot with Ijaz Rehman, who is a psychiatrist. The couple got married in 1993 and were divorced in 2005. During their marriage, they had three children — two sons and a daughter. Prior to her marriage to Imran Khan, Reham worked as a journalist; she worked for the BBC. She also ventured into film production. In 2016, she produced Janaan, a romantic comedy set in Swat. Khan was criticised as it came just weeks after the Taliban massacre of more than 130 schoolboys in Peshawar. Moreover, many conservatives were wary of Reham Khan and her career — she was seen in a video cooking pork sausages at a country fair. In fact, members of Khan's family disapproved of the marriage and even stayed away from the ceremony. However, Reham and Imran's marriage came to an end 10 months later in October 2015. Later, in 2018, Reham accused Imran of cheating on her during their marriage with Bushra Wattoo, who he consequently married and then divorced. She claimed in an interview with The Times that the cricketer-turned-politician was having a long 'extramarital affair' with Bushra that continued while he was married to her. 'Imran Khan was in contact with Bushra three years ago when I was his wife and he is not the truthful man,' she was then quoted as saying. In the subsequent years, Reham tied the knot again; in 2022, she said 'I do' to US-based Pakistani actor and satirist Mirza Bilal. What is Reham Khan's Pakistan Republic Party? On Tuesday (July 15), the former wife of Imran Khan announced the launch of her new political party in Pakistan, naming it the Pakistan Republic Party. Making the announcement at Karachi Press Club, Reham said, 'I've never accepted political positions before. I joined a party once for just one person,' in reference to her former husband. 'But today, I stand on my own terms.' In her address, Reham said that her party, the Pakistan Republic Party, would be the people's voice, holding the ruling elite accountable. She further said that her party was born out of the growing dissatisfaction in the country. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'This is not just a party, it's a movement to convert politics into service,' she said. She vowed that through her new party, she would bring about reforms in the economically-struggling nation. 'From 2012 to 2025, the Pakistan I've witnessed still lacks clean drinking water and basic healthcare. That's not acceptable anymore.' Reham has sworn to bring about reforms for the people of Pakistan, particularly women and farmers, stating that Islamabad needs policies that reflect the realities faced by the common people. Reham also wasted no time, slamming the old political parties, saying hers is not here to 'serve personal empires'. 'No one in our party will contest from four constituencies at one time, and we're not here to play political games,' she said, adding, that she has come to 'replace all the big political people'. Commuters ride past posters of Pakistan Muslim League (PML) party. Reham Khan's political party, the Pakistan Republic Party, will add to an already cluttered political arena in Pakistan. File image/AFP What is Pakistan's political scenario? It remains to be seen how Reham's party will perform in the evolving political arena, but for now her party adds a new dimension to the political scenario in the country. Currently, the country is being led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, who's in alliance with the PPP. Meanwhile, Imran Khan's PTI struggles to stay relevant as their leader remains behind bars. In fact, the PTI is planning a nationwide protest on August 5, demanding the release of the former PM. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The 72-year-old Khan has been behind bars since August 2023 and faces multiple criminal cases. PTI leaders are planning to intensify pressure on the Shehbaz Sharif government and the military establishment through a nationwide movement beginning August 5. Meanwhile, Pakistan continues to struggle with a deteriorating economy. Booming population growth and poor economic policy management have relegated Pakistan from the richest economy in South Asia to the poorest over the last 50 years. Many experts note that the government has run up public debt, so much so that interest on that debt now eats up almost two-thirds of public revenue and leaves little to spend on essential items. Amid this situation, it's unclear if Reham Khan's party will help or hurt the situation. Only time will tell. With inputs from agencies
