Injury updates
Receiver Dontayvion Wicks has a new calf injury and didn't practice. Running back MarShawn Lloyd injured his groin during Monday's practice and didn't participate Tuesday. The Packers believe Lloyd suffered a soft-tissue injury before he was hit by Nate Hobbs on Monday. Left guard Aaron Banks, who had a back injury last week, didn't practice, suggesting he really is day to day. Rookie receiver Savion Williams departed practice early.
Big things to know
While Jordan Morgan replaced Aaron Banks at left guard, Elgton Jenkins took his first 11-on-11 snaps of training camp at center. The Packers are easing him back into the mix, but Jenkins is progressing.
It's getting more and more difficult to temper expectations for Matthew Golden. On a 1-on-1 rep versus Carrington Valentine, Golden made a big-time adjustment of an underthrown deep ball and made the contested catch. Later, he got behind the coverage of the starting defense and caught a long touchdown pass from Jordan Love in 11-on-11. Love also found him on a crosser under pressure, and he drew two different penalty flags against coverage. The rookie is looking increasingly more impressive during the first week of camp.
Lukas Van Ness beat Jordan Morgan twice in pass-rushing 1-on-1s. Per Rob Demovsky of ESPN, Van Ness is 3-0 in the drill to start training camp. And the 2023 first-round pick has been active in 11-on-11 periods. Positive early signs.
Rookie defensive lineman Nazir Stackhouse continues to make noise. Twice during team periods, he produced a "sack" of the quarterback. The undrafted rookie has made notable plays during three straight practices.
Signs of improvement are also showing up for Ty'Ron Hopper, who had another active practice.
Xavier McKinney had a pick of Jordan Love in a team period.
Can Luke Musgrave be a playmaker in Year 3? He had a good round of 1-on-1s against Javon Bullard.
Matt LaFleur pulled Rasheed Walker and made him run a lap late in the practice, and he was not happy in his post-practice huddle. It's possible an intense, physical practice got a little too intense and physical late.

McMenamin: LeBron James is still monitoring the Lakers' moves
Ever since LeBron James opted into the final season of his contract in late June, there has been lots of speculation about his immediate future with the Los Angeles Lakers. That speculation stemmed from a statement his agent, Rich Paul, gave to ESPN that stated, in part, that the two "want to evaluate what's best" for the superstar moving forward. James is 40 years of age and is headed toward his record 23rd season in the NBA. It does appear he will start the new season as a member of the Lakers, but what happens afterward with him is anyone's guess, especially now that the franchise revolves around Luka Doncic, who just agreed to a three-year contract extension. ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported that James is supportive of Doncic being with the team, but that the four-time MVP is still looking at what the team will do to build a championship-caliber roster (at 10:42). "I'm told that the statement that Rich Paul gave to Shams Charania back in June when LeBron opted in still stands," McMenamin said. "LeBron and his representatives will be monitoring the Lakers' moves that they make, because they recognize that there's only a very limited amount of time left in his career and he wants to be competing for championships, whatever time that is." It has been rumored that James and his camp have been unhappy that the Lakers are now catering to Doncic and not James. However, Charania also reported that James is supportive of this shift. With Doncic now under contract for at least the next three years, Los Angeles can fully shift its focus to building a championship team around both superstars. Once James leaves, there's no telling how long it will take the team to find another star to put alongside Doncic, and therefore, now is the time for it to go for its 18th NBA championship, especially since Doncic made it clear that he wants to get a ring now. With Allar, Allen and Singleton returning, Penn State should have one of the most balanced offenses in the FBS, especially if Allar takes the next step as a downfield passer. Adding Pena, Ross and Hudson was critical; Penn State's receivers didn't have a reception in a 27-24 loss to Notre Dame in a CFP semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl. Packers bring back veteran cornerback and special teamer Corey Ballentine
The Green Bay Packers announced the return of cornerback Corey Ballentine on Monday. Ballentine, who spent the last two seasons with the Packers, was released by the Indianapolis Colts on Friday, opening the door to a reunion. To make room for Ballentine, the Packers released cornerback Gregory Junior. Ballentine, a 2019 sixth-round pick of the Giants, spent the last three seasons with the Packers before signing with the Colts in free agency. He played in 37 games for the Packers, including seven starts at cornerback. In 2023, Ballentine defended seven passes and intercepted one while also producing 43 tackles across 488 snaps for the Packers defense. He played only 76 for Jeff Hafley's defense in 2024, but Ballentine played 195 snaps on special teams for Rich Bisaccia. In fact, Ballentine played at least 100 special teams snaps during each of the last three seasons for the Packers. Matt LaFleur likely see Ballentine as a dependable player who can handle snaps at corner and on multiple special teams groupings. The competition at cornerback likely needed a veteran addition. Behind Nate Hobbs, Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine, the Packers are staging a competition between the likes of Kalen King, Kamal Hadden, Micah Robinson and receiver concert Bo Melton, all players with little to no NFL experience. injuries might have also played a factor; Hobbs and Hadden both missed Family Night with injuries. Given the competition and his ability to play both defense and special teams, Ballentine has a real shot at making the roster. Ballentine will wear No. 35, the number he wore in 2023. The Packers are back on the practice field on Tuesday. A familiar face will be joining the training camp festivities in Green Bay.
