SMU made the (bleep)ing College Football Playoff. Texas A&M hasn't done that. Neither has Baylor, Texas Tech, or Houston. Take it outside of the football-mad state - Wisconsin, Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn, Missouri, USC, Utah, and Iowa have yet to make the CFP.Until last year, Penn State and Tennessee hadn't been in, either.And it wasn't a fluke. Okay, so the ACC was fourth among the Power Four conferences by about a gajillion miles. SMU hung up 66 on TCU, walloped Florida State 42-16, took out a good Louisville squad, and in all, beat six teams that went bowling, and again, almost took out Clemson.
All head coach Rhett Lashlee has done is go 22-6 over the last two seasons and 29-12 since taking the job in 2022.His recruiting class was terrific, the staff kept around everyone important, crushed the transfer portal for key positions, the depth is better, and the starting 22 will be more talented than last year's team.The schedule is tougher - Florida State will likely rebound, Miami is on the slate this time around, and good luck with those road trips to TCU and Clemson - and the team will be the hunted, but after last year, you're insane to think SMU can't do it all again. What is Texas A&M football's overall raking in EA Sports College Football 26?
With mixed reviews from college football fans across the country, EA Sports College Football 26 officially dropped the top 25 overall teams in the video game that drops on July 10. Among those top-rated teams in this year's edition was the Texas A&M Aggies, who are the No. 8 program in the game with a team ranking of 88 overall. The school ranks as the fourth-best overall team in the Southeastern Conference, with Alabama ranked No. 1, Texas at No. 2, and Georgia at No. 6 in the official ratings before the 2025-2026 campaign begins. While Aggie fans are tired of seeing the team ranked high each preseason, resulting in disappointing results, the 2025 preseason just feels different. While EA Sports provided overalls for each program in the top 25, the company released the best offensive and defensive units in this year's edition. Texas A&M ranks at No. 12 in both categories with a 90 overall defense and an 89 overall offense. Here is the full list of team overalls in the 2026 edition: Team Overalls Much to the chagrin of Aggie fans, the rankings also faced much backlash from fans in the replies of the official drop, specifically regarding the game's top 10 teams. The Crimson Tide ranked as the best overall team is extremely generous considering the program did not reach the College Football Playoff last year and head coach Kalen DeBoer is in just his second season at the helm, with many questions about who will step up at the quarterback position. As you can imagine, those same feelings toward Alabama were made against the Aggies being at No. 8 on this list, after finishing the season with a loss in the Las Vegas Bowl to the USC Trojans. The ratings in the game will be adjusted accordingly to how the season progresses, however. With potentially one of the best running back rooms in the country featuring a healthy Le'Veon Moss, Rueben Owens and Amari Daniels, sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed and wideouts like NC State transfer KC Concepcion, the Aggies' offense could lead this team to become one of the best in the SEC this season. The 89 overall ranking is justifiable, but the concerns on defense leave me with questions on how EA Sports formulated the rankings. Regardless, the EA Sports College Football 26 video game will release in 13 days on Xbox and PlayStation. The standard edition is $69.99, with the deluxe and MVP editions costing $99.99 and $149.99, respectively. Patrick Reed, Harold Varner III lead LIV Golf Dallas
CARROLLTON, Texas -- Patrick Reed and Harold Varner III each shot 5-under 67 on Friday at Maridoe Golf Club to share the first-round lead in LIV Golf Dallas. Reed eagled the 655-yard, par-5 second hole and had four birdies and a bogey. Varner, Reed's 4Aces teammate, had six birdies and a closing bogey. Jon Rahm was a stroke back. Abraham Ancer shot 69, and Dustin Johnson was at 70 with Graeme McDowell, Anirban Lahiri, Richard Bland and David Puig. Bryson DeChambeau opened with a 72. He lives in Dallas and played his college golf at SMU. Points leader Joaquin Niemann, coming off a victory at LIV Golf Virginia, shot 78. He had a 10 on the par-5 seventh. Brooks Koepka withdrew during the round because of illness. He smashed a tee marker with his driver on the ninth hole.

Jim Harbaugh, Warde Manuel added to Michigan class-action lawsuit over Matt Weiss scandal
The fallout for the University of Michigan and the ongoing Matt Weiss computer access crimes scandal is continuing to escalate. A class-action lawsuit has long been filed by some of the victims in Ann Arbor back in March 2025, with 11 female student athletes, along with victims from other schools, seeking damages from the university, given Weiss's alleged crimes happened on campus, using school resources. Now, former head coach Jim Harbaugh and athletic director Warde Manuel are among those being added to the suit, according to multiple reports. According to both the Associated Press as well as The Detroit News, Harbaugh, Manuel, former U-M presidents Santa J. Ono and Dr. Mark Schlissel were added to the civil lawsuit, with the lawyer for the group of 'Jane Does' taking particular umbrage over a lack of action by the former Wolverines head coach. Via The Detroit News: (subscription required) 'Harbaugh led and encouraged a culture within the football program that resulted in a complete lack of oversight or protection for non-football student athletes,' the lawsuit alleges. 'Had Harbaugh implemented basic oversight of his staff, plaintiffs…would have been protected against predators such as Weiss.' Harbaugh, Manuel and others failed to act to protect students, the lawsuit alleges. 'Naming Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and Athletic Director Warde Manuel in this complaint reflects our belief that leadership at the highest levels either knew of these threats or deliberately ignored them, prioritizing athletic prestige and profit over the safety and dignity of students,' one of the women's lawyers, Parker Stinar, said in a statement. According to The Detroit News, this is one of 13 civil lawsuits filed against former Michigan quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss since it was revealed that the United States Department of Justice was bringing charges against him. After Weiss's indictment, Harbaugh had commented on the situation when asked about it at NFL owners meetings: 'It was after the TCU game that we — that I found out, we found out, that there was allegations,' the Los Angeles Chargers head coach told the Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett on Monday in Palm Beach, Florida, at the NFL's annual spring meeting. 'And you said it, I mean indictment, that's not a word that — sympathy for the victims and for Matt's family. It's shocking.' According to the AP, the suit alleges that Harbaugh had known, as there was a staff member who had seen Weiss accessing 'sensitive' information on Schembechler Hall computers in late-December 2022, just days before the team traveled to Phoenix to face TCU in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl. 'Had Harbaugh implemented basic oversight of his staff, plaintiffs and the class would have been protected against predators such as Weiss,' the updated lawsuit states. 'Instead, Weiss was a highly compensated asset that was promoted by and within the football program, from which position he was able to, and did, target female student athletes.' The lawsuit says a staff member saw Weiss viewing private information at Schembechler Hall, headquarters for the football team, around Dec. 21, 2022, and reported it before Michigan played Texas Christian University in a playoff game days later on Dec. 31. Like any court case, it is also true that the plaintiff must meet the burden of proof to indicate that the newly-added parties were privy to Weiss's dealings behind closed doors. Weiss's house was raided by the FBI in January 2023 and he was subsequently suspended by the university. Michigan terminated Weiss on January 20, 2023. Maize & Blue Review's Josh Henschke had discovered the police report during that interim week which had short detail on the intent of the raid, while The Detroit News' Angelique Chengelis had noted the December 21-23 timeline of the Michigan staffer's discovery of Weiss's doings on the same day, January 17, 2023.
