Cyber attacks were not in the headlines during the 2024 U.S. presidential election, thanks in part to cybersecurity firm Cloudflare, which it says blocked over 6 billion election-related threats the week of Nov. 5 alone. One of the world's largest network infrastructure and security firms, Cloudflare shores up about a fifth of the internet. It helps the owners of websites and apps keep service fast, as well as safe from the near-constant barrage of bad actors who exploit weaknesses to steal information or simply overwhelm online properties for financial or political gain. "We're able to sit in that stream of traffic, see all of the different requests that come to it, and be able to stop that," says Matthew Prince, cofounder and CEO. "We're sort of like the bodyguard of the internet." In 2024, it counted Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden as clients, in addition to candidates or authorities in six countries that also held elections. Cloudflare currently gifts its highest subscription tier to more than half of U.S. states as well as local governments for free through its ongoing Athenian Project.

Democrats split on presidential primary candidate, poll says
LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A new Emerson College Polling of U.S. voters shows that Democrats are split on who they will support in the 2028 presidential primary. According to the poll, 16% support former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, 13% former Vice President Kamala Harris, 12% California Gov. Gavin Newsom, 7% Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, respectively, 5% Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, and 3% New Jersey Senator Cory Booker. 23% percent of voters are undecided. Emerson College reports that in the last poll, held in , Harris received 37% support, Gov. Newsom 7%, and Sec. Buttigieg 4%, Gov. Shapiro 3%, and Gov. Whitmer 3%. In the November poll, voters were allowed to write in their preferred candidate. On a generic 2028 presidential ballot test, 42% would support the generic Democratic candidate, 42% the Republican, and 16% are undecided. 'Similarly to the generic congressional ballot, independents break for the generic Democrat on the presidential ballot, 37% to 29%, with a significant 34% undecided,' said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, in a news release sent to 6 News. According to the poll, the economy remains the top issue for voters at 32%, down from 41% in March. Threats to democracy are the top concern for 22% of voters, a four-point increase. ‘No one' excited about Kamala Harris' potential gubernatorial run, say California donors
Former Vice President Kamala Harris' prospective gubernatorial bid is not striking up much excitement among Democratic fundraisers in California, Politico reported Friday. The outlet spoke to multiple Democratic Party donors in California to see how they felt about Harris possibly running for governor. So far, her interest in exploring a gubernatorial run in the state following her 2024 presidential election loss hasn't enthused many. "She still would probably lead, but honestly, no one is incredibly pumped," one Southern California fundraiser told Politico. Extremely early polls in the next Democratic Party presidential nomination race — which are heavily reliant on name recognition at this point — indicate that the former vice president holds a significant lead over other potential White House contenders. Top Trump Ally Teases Bid For California Governor If Harris Runs Mather Martin, a party fundraiser from San Francisco who worked for multiple Harris campaigns, told Politico, "There was more enthusiasm at first" for Harris' run. However, he added, "I think it waned a bit." Another donor who gave a six-figure donation to Harris' presidential campaign last year told the outlet they had found the implosion of her White House bid "traumatizing" and seemed reluctant to support her in the state. "Kamala just reminds you we are in this complete s--- storm. With Biden, we got bamboozled… I think she did the best she could in that situation, but obviously she knew about the cognitive decline too. I've written so many checks because I knew the Trump administration would be horrible, but we're living in a nightmare because of the Democrats. I'm furious at them, truly." The donor who declared that "no one is incredibly pumped" about Harris' run also shared that donors "realize it's just going to bring up the whole pathetic last presidential, which no one wants to hear about again.
