Honda-backed Helm.ai unveils vision system for self-driving cars

Indian Express20-06-2025
Honda Motor-backed Helm.ai on Thursday unveiled its camera-based system to interpret urban environments, dubbed Helm.ai Vision, and said it was in talks with other automakers to deploy its self-driving technology in mass-market vehicles.
Helm.ai is working with the Japanese automaker to integrate its technology in the upcoming 2026 Honda Zero series of electric vehicles, which will allow users to drive hands-free and take their eyes off the road.
'We're definitely in talks with many OEMs and we're on track for deploying our technology in production,' Helm.ai CEO and founder Vladislav Voroninski told Reuters.
'Our business model is essentially licensing this kind of software and also foundation model software to the automakers.'
The California-based startup's vision-first approach aligns with Elon Musk's Tesla, which also relies on camera-based systems as alternate sensors such as lidar and radar can increase costs.
However, Voroninski said while Helm.ai has foundation models that work with other sensors, its primary offering remains vision-focused.
Industry experts say other sensors are critical to safety as they can act as backup for cameras, which are known to underperform in low-visibility conditions.
Robotaxi companies such as Alphabet's Waymo and May Mobility use a combination of radar, lidar and cameras to perceive their surroundings.
Helm.ai has raised $102 million to date and counts Goodyear Ventures, Korean auto parts maker Sungwoo HiTech and Amplo among its investors.
Helm.ai Vision combines images from multiple cameras to create a bird's-eye view map, which helps improve the vehicle's planning and control systems, the company said.
The system is optimized for several hardware platforms made by the likes of Nvidia and Qualcomm.
This enables automakers to incorporate Helm.ai Vision into their existing vehicle systems, which include their own technologies for predicting and planning vehicle movements.

According to The Guardian, users on China's Weibo platform have been vocally backing Musk, with the hashtag #MuskWantsToBuildAnAmericaParty going viral on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. The U.S. automaker delivered 71,599 vehicles in June, a modest 0.8% rise compared to the same month last year and a 16% jump from May, according to data released Wednesday by China's Passenger Car Association (PCA).The uptick comes as Tesla navigates an ongoing price war in China, the world's largest EV market. While the PCA did not specify the split between domestic sales and exports, the growth suggests Tesla is gaining traction. A key factor may be recent regulatory progress, with China unveiling guidelines last month that could accelerate the rollout of Tesla's advanced driver-assistance features. These enhancements are seen as critical in a market increasingly focused on intelligent vehicle technology, potentially giving Tesla a competitive milestone marks a positive shift for Tesla as it seeks to strengthen its foothold in China amid intensifying competition and evolving consumer demands. According to experts, this will ensure the safety of crops and increase productivity by 20%. The spokesperson said that a comprehensive plan was prepared for the production and marketing of 'Panchgavya' products made from cow dung, cow urine, milk, curd, and ghee. By joining this scheme, women in rural areas will become self-reliant, and local youth will get new employment opportunities at the local level. Under the scheme, women of self-help groups in each district will be given the responsibility of manufacturing, marketing, and training of Panchgavya-based products. In addition, farmers will be given special training programs so that farming can be made chemical-free and environmentally friendly. Anurag Srivastava, OSD of Uttar Pradesh Gau Seva Commission, said that recently the commission conducted a state-wide inspection and studied livestock density, available land, water sources, and cow shelters. Besides this, an action plan was made to connect local youth in the marketing of growth promoters and organic manure. "This will give new impetus to organic farming. Telangana SPVs pay Rs 1,393 crore dues to REC

Mumbai: Rural Electrification Corp (REC) has clarified that the Telangana-based Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project Corporation ( KIPCL ) and Telangana State Water Resources Infrastructure Development Corporation ( TSWRIDC ) have paid their instalment amount of ₹1,393 crore to the company preventing them from slipping into a non-performing asset (NPA). The loans though are still classified as SMA 2 (special mention account 2) accounts. The two special purpose vehicles (SPV) were floated by the previous BRS government and together borrowed about ₹27,500 crore for taking up various irrigation projects including Kaleshwaram, Palamuru-Ranga Reddy, Sitarama, Devadula, Sriram Sagar flood flow canal and Kanthanapally irrigation projects. The two companies' total dues to REC from these SPVs were at ₹1,393.6 crore at the end of March 2025. In a letter to principal secretary Rahul Bojja, last week REC had said that unless payments are made by June end, the accounts could slip into NPA. In a notice to stock exchanges REC said the payments have been made within the timeline. "The respective utilities have cleared their critical over-dues and as on June 30, 2025, there are no critical dues of KIPCL and TSWRlDC. Further, both loans are secured and have been extended against State Government Guarantee. It is further to clarify that as on date, there are no loan assets which may tum into fresh NPA on account of outstanding dues," REC said. Live Events
