BRITS have revealed what they look for in a modern home - including plenty of natural light, a quiet neighbourhood - and an EV charger. A poll of 2,000 adults, identified the must haves when it comes to buying a property, with a garage, secure fencing and decent mobile signal also key. Other necessities included having space for a home office, and a downstairs loo, with proximity to shops, pubs, and restaurants also priorities. The research was commissioned by Vauxhall, which has teamed up with property marketplace Zoopla to introduce a search filter enabling users to find homes with an EV charger or help them locate the closest public charger to a property. This comes after 40 per cent of drivers polled in the study said access to EV charging facilities near a house they were looking to buy would influence their purchasing decision. While 54 per cent admitted it would be helpful if property marketplaces or apps were to show where the nearest EV chargers are. Spokesperson for the car maker, Steve Catlin, said: 'Moving house is one of the biggest decisions most of us make in our lifetime. 'And anyone who's done it knows how important – and difficult - it is to find the perfect home.' Other attributes adults would like in a modern home include energy-efficient glazing (35 per cent) and a low-maintenance garden (34 per cent). But 51 per cent said that if they were choosing their next home now, access to eco-friendly features like an EV charger would be important to them. While 33 per cent would like a home with both old and new features, and 32 per cent would rather it be completely brand new, compared to 17 per cent who'd want an old house. But 47 per cent would be more likely to buy an electric or hybrid vehicle, if there was easy access to charging near their home, according to the figures. Steve Catlin, spokesperson for Vauxhall, which partnered with Zoopla as part of its ' Electric Streets of Britain ' campaign, to improve on-street charging for households without driveways, added: 'As EVs become an even more common sight on our roads, more and more people will be prioritising charging access when thinking about where to live. 'We hope the features we have worked with Zoopla to introduce go some way to make decisions around buying and renting a new home that little bit easier for millions across the country.' 2

Evacuation as gas leak in Lyme Regis prompts car explosion fear
Homes in part of Lyme Regis were evacuated after a gas main leaked beneath a parked car, leading to concerns the vehicle could services were called to Pound Street at about 20:50 BST on Tuesday where the pipe was found to be leaking beneath the and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service crews said the gas from the "ruptured" pipe had "vented into a car, creating a potential explosion risk".Residents were asked to leave their homes while the vehicle was moved, and were allowed to return at about 11:00 BST. In a Facebook post, Charmouth fire station, which attended alongside a crew from Bridport, said: "Crews evacuated the immediate area and gained entry into the vehicle."Fortunately it did not explode and we were able to vent the gas and move the vehicle so that the gas engineers could carry out repair work to the ruptured pipe." A fire service spokesperson added: "A small number of properties were evacuated to ensure resident safety." Simon Collins, spokesperson for gas company SGN, said engineers attended following reports of a smell of said: "We found a leak on a gas pipe running beneath the road, but were unable to access it due to a vehicle being parked in the way."As a precaution, we evacuated nearby properties while the emergency services removed the vehicle, which allowed us to stop the leak and make the area safe. "All residents were then allowed to return to their homes."We'd like to thank people for their patience while we worked to make this essential repair." M3 closed in both directions after ‘multi-vehicle crash' as drivers face long delays
A MAJOR motorway has been closed in both directions, following a "multi-vehicle crash". Emergency services, including an air ambulance, raced to the crash site on the M3 in Surrey following the incident. 2 2 The road is closed westbound between J3 (Bagshott Interchange) and J4 (Frimley Interchange). National Highways have also been forced to close the road heading eastbound too. That closure stretches between between J3 (Lightwater) and J4 (Frimley). Traffic is being held in both directions, while emergency services respond to a "multi-vehicle collision". Huge queues of cars have been spotted, with drivers getting out of their vehicles while they wait. However, getting out of your vehicle while in a traffic jam can be extremely dangerous and could lead to another accident. According to National Highways, Surrey Police, Surrey Fire & Rescue and the South East Coast Ambulance Service are all in attendance at the site of the crash. Also, an Air Ambulance and National Highways Traffic Officers have been dispatched to the scene. Following the closure, National Highways urged drivers to reconsider their planned routes and to allow for extra journey time. Drivers have been advised to leave the M3 southbound at Junction 3 to join the A322 dual carriage way. Then, after following the A30 London Road, drivers can join the A331 before rejoining the M3 once again.
