A trio of alleged armed robbers have been arrested after a teenage German tourist's car was stolen at gunpoint.
The group allegedly approached the 18-year-old driver of a white Hyundai Accent at a rest stop on Queensland's Bruce Hwy on Saturday evening.
A 27-year-old Ayr woman, 26-year-old Rasmussen man and 17-year-old Rasmussen boy then demanded the German give over his keys, wallet and phone, threatening him with a gun and demanding he leave the car, police said.
The teenage driver complied, then called the police.
Police later found the car in Townsville, a more than two-hour drive from the alleged robbery near Cardwell, and arrested the trio.
Tactical Crime Squad officers, a police helicopter and the Dog Squad helped track the group down.
The man and woman were both charged with two counts of armed robbery in company and will appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday.
The 17-year-old faces the same charges in front of the Townsville Children's Court.
Police investigations are ongoing and anyone with information has been urged to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers.
