
India going through ‘Amrit Kaal' now, developing it by 2047 is govt's national goal: President Murmu
She advised the students to contribute towards the development of India by getting inspiration from soldiers, farmers, scientists, etc.
Addressing the gathering at the convocation ceremony of Ravenshaw University at Cuttack, the president said, 'Our country is going through Amrit Kaal. Making India a developed nation by the year 2047 is our national goal. The sense of nation first is our biggest strength. Our soldiers, farmers, scientists, engineers, doctors and people active in various fields are working with the sentiment of increasing the pride of India.'
She urged students to take inspiration from them and contribute to the development of the country with their knowledge, skills and devotion.
She further added that this is the era of science and technology. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, 3D Printing and Cloud Computing have brought about a vast change in our thinking and working style.
President Murmu was happy to note that Ravenshaw University is making good use of these technologies. She advised all to be careful about the misuse of these advanced technologies.
Recalling the place of Ravenshaw University in the freedom struggle and the movement for the formation of Odisha as a separate state on a linguistic basis, she said, 'This educational institution was an active centre of the freedom struggle and associated with the movement for the formation of the state of Odisha. This institution has been continuously making invaluable contributions to the development of education and women's empowerment. Many of its former students have increased the prestige of India as freedom fighters, educationists, litterateurs, philosophers, political leaders, social reformers, scientists and artists.'
The President was happy to note that Ravenshaw University is making remarkable strides in research, innovation, and inclusivity. It has extended its expertise to numerous industry partners through consultancy services and technology transfers.
Ravenshaw University's 'Centre of Design, Innovation and Entrepreneurship' promotes ideation, translational research, and entrepreneurship. She also noted that the University is focusing on increasing the enrollment of students from tribal areas, underprivileged groups, and the divyangas.
In the next event, President Murmu laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of three buildings of Ravenshaw Girls' High School at Cuttack.
In her brief remarks on the occasion, the President said that the quality of teaching and good infrastructure create a good educational environment. She appreciated the Central and State governments for this project related to the education of girls.
President Murmu said that during various convocation ceremonies, she noted that girls perform better when given equal facilities and opportunities. She highlighted that women are contributing actively in every field - be it education and literature or science, technology, industry and commerce.
She advised girl students to take inspiration from the women who are setting new standards of success in various fields.
She said that they could achieve even the impossible on the strength of their knowledge, self-confidence, skill and determination.

Bhubaneswar cleanest city in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25
Bhubaneswar: Smart city Bhubaneswar was adjudged the cleanest city in the state and secured the award for 'Promising Swachh Seher of Odisha' in this year's Swachh Survekshan (SS), the results of which were announced in New Delhi on Thursday. Overall, Surat and Indore continued their streak of grabbing the top slots in the mega cleanliness survey in India for the eighth year in a row. Chikiti, a small town in Ganjam, surprised again with its performance and grabbed the second rank in the category of less than 20,000 population. Joining Chikiti is Aska from Ganjam this time, which grabbed the second rank nationally in the category of 20,000 to 50,000 population. In the previous edition of the survey, Chikiti was adjudged the cleanest in the state and bagged the 'Clean City East Zone Award' in the category of population of less than 15,000. The town was ranked 12th in the country in the 2023-24 survey. Housing and urban development minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra received the award for Odisha from President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi. "Odisha's commitment to urban cleanliness continues to earn national recognition," the urban development department posted on X. Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi also congratulated the department and termed Odisha's performance as stellar. He attributed the success to the department's relentless efforts, effective leadership and community-driven approach towards urban cleanliness. "My heartfelt appreciation to all officers, the ULB representatives, sanitation workers and citizens who have made this achievement possible. Let us continue working together to build a Swachh and Samruddha (prosperous) Odisha," the CM posted on X.

Chhattisgarh's Belha crowned India's cleanest small town
Raipur: Chhattisgarh has yet again achieved national acclamation in urban sanitation, emerging as a national leader in cleanliness under the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25. Conducted by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the annual nationwide survey saw multiple cities from the state securing top honours across diverse population categories. In a landmark feat, Belha Nagar Panchayat, located in Bilaspur district, was adjudged the cleanest city in India among towns with a population of less than 20,000. Bilaspur city itself shone brightly on the national stage, earning the second position among cities with a population between 3 to 10 lakh. In the 20,000–50,000 category, Kumhari secured an impressive third place. The awards were conferred by President Droupadi Murmu during a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Representing Chhattisgarh, Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration Minister Arun Sao, along with mayors, chairpersons, and officials of the winning urban bodies, received the honours. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal and Minister of State Tokhan Sahu were also present. In a new category introduced this year, the Super Sanitation League (SSL), cities that have ranked in the top three at least once over the past three years and feature among the top 20 in the current rankings were specially recognised. Chhattisgarh had three entries in this elite league: Ambikapur in the 50,000–3 lakh category, Patan and Bishrampur in the under-20,000 category. These cities were acknowledged for consistently maintaining high cleanliness standards and sustainable urban sanitation practices. Raipur Declared 'Promising Swachh City': Adding to the accolades, Raipur, the capital city, was named "Promising Swachh City" for the state, recognising its steady progress and potential in becoming a national sanitation model. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai lauded the achievements, "This is a moment of immense pride for Chhattisgarh. The awards reflect the joint efforts of our civic bodies, citizens, and administrative leadership. I hope this success will encourage other cities in the state to strive harder towards achieving top-tier cleanliness." With seven urban bodies from the state bagging national-level recognition and a strong presence in newly introduced categories, Chhattisgarh has cemented its position as a front-runner in India's cleanliness mission.

Swachh Survekshan 2024-25: UP scores big; Lucknow stands 3rd in Clean City Awards
UTTAR PRADESH has recorded success in the ninth edition of 'Swachh Survekshan' 2024-25. The state has secured top positions and awards across various categories for its initiatives in urban cleanliness and sanitation, a government statement said on Thursday. President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards during a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on Thursday. State Cabinet Minister A(K Sharma received the honours on behalf of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow secured the third position in the Clean City Award for cities with a population exceeding 10 lakh. It became the first city in the state to achieve a 7-star Garbage Free City (GFC) rating, a historic milestone. For this achievement, Lucknow was conferred the Presidential Award, the statement said. Prayagraj was adjudged the Cleanest Ganga City, appreciated for its consistent efforts in maintaining cleanliness around the holy river, especially during the Mahakumbh. Agra, Gorakhpur, and Maha Kumbh 2025 were recognised with the Award of Excellence. Gorakhpur was ranked third in the 'Safai Mitra Surakshit Sheher' category and fourth among cities with a population between 3 to 10 lakh. The city also got a 5-star GFC rating. Six cities from Uttar Pradesh now rank among the top 20 cleanest big cities in India with above 5-star ratings. Agra has been recognised as the Emerging Clean City of Uttar Pradesh, securing the 32nd rank at the national level. The city has got a 5-star Garbage Free City (GFC) rating. Moradabad has achieved 10th position in the 3–10 lakh population category. In the medium city category, Nagar Palika Parishad Bijnor and Shamshabad ranked 29th and 95th, respectively. Uttar Pradesh has also been given the Swachh Maha Kumbh 2025 Award for sanitation initiatives planned for the Maha Kumbh. Urban Development Minister A K Sharma stated that Uttar Pradesh's performance in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 reflects the government's commitment to create clean, healthy, and livable urban spaces. Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Amrit Abhijat said that the state's top rankings, GFC certifications, and advancements in ODF++ and Water+ categories are a result of systematic monitoring, rigorous training, and proactive supervision.
