Is Caitlin Clark playing for the Indiana Fever tonight? WNBA superstar's injury latest ahead of LA Sparks clash

Daily Mail2 hours ago
Caitlin Clark has had an injury-riddled sophomore season in the WNBA, and she's set to miss another game on Tuesday for the Fever.
The reigning Rookie of the Year has been sidelined by injuries to both of her groins as well as a left quad issue, and last played on July 15 against the Sun.
In that game, Clark injured her right groin in the final moments of her team's 85-77 win over Connecticut - leaving her holding back tears.
The injury, which occurred with just 39.1 seconds left in the contest, unfortunately ruled her out of the All-Star Game, which she was set to captain at the Fever's home Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
She has missed seven consecutive games heading into the Fever's clash with the Sparks on Tuesday night.
With the Fever seeking their sixth win in a row, here's what is known about her availability.
Is Caitlin Clark playing against the Sparks?
While Fever coach Stephanie White has said that the guard's recovery is 'going well,' she has been ruled out yet again ahead of the game.
With Clark struggling to stay healthy this season, the Fever are seemingly taking a cautious approach and have not provided a timeline for when she'll be back.
'I know she wants to be out here on the floor, and we want her out on the floor, but making sure she's ready is the most important thing,' White said over the weekend.
'I still don't know how far we are. We're going to take it one step at a time and one day at a time and go from there.'
Tuesday's game will tip off at 10pm ET from LA.
How many games has Clark missed this season?
While Clark was extremely durable in her rookie season and during her college career at Iowa, Tuesday's absence will mark the 17th regular season game she's missed this year.
Clark's injury troubles began when she missed the Fever's preseason opener due to left quad tightness.
She then suited up in the first four games of the season before being sidelined by a left quad sprain, which she suffered on May 24 against the Liberty.
After missing five games with that ailment, she suffered a left groin injury on June 24 - just five games into her return - and missed another four games.
She returned to the court on July 9 before suffering her latest injury against Connecticut.
How has Clark performed this season?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Clark has played below her best this season as she's battled health issues.
Her points (16.5 per contest), rebounds (5.7), field goal percentage (36.7) and three-point percentage (27.9) are all down from her rookie season.
In the four games prior to her right groin injury (after returning from a left groin issue), she was particularly ineffective by her own standards, scoring just 12.5 points per contest to go along with 8.7 assists per night.
She averaged just 25.9 minutes in those contests as the Fever staff tried to ease her back.
What is the Fever's record without Clark?
The Fever have had to adjust to life without Clark for long stretches this season - and they've actually fared pretty well without her.
In 16 games this season with Clark sidelined, Indiana has gone 9-7 with the help of Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.
The Fever have gone 8-5 in games which Clark has played this year.
Indiana struggled earlier in the season to get results without Clark, losing four of six such games, but have won five consecutive games heading into Tuesday night.

SEC Football: Any Given Saturday Review – Grit, glory, and chaos

Season 1 Episode Guide Opening Kickoff QB1 Shock the World Turning Point Football Family Bragging Rights Just Win When it comes to college football, no conference stirs up more passion, loyalty, and heated debate than the SEC. Short for the Southeastern Conference, this American football league isn't just a collection of teams — it's a way of life. Across twelve Saturdays, twelve teams battle for a shot at the playoffs, while fiercely loyal, die-hard fans rally their teams on from the side-lines. The pageantry, rivalries, and local pride that elevate these games beyond the field are all shown in their epic glory across these 7 episodes, and Netflix certainly don't hold back. From Alabama's dynastic dominance to the fever-pitch intensity of Auburn vs. LSU, SEC football is nothing short of a religion in parts of the American South. Netflix has been leaning hard into sports content lately, and SEC Football: Any Given Saturday is the latest docuseries to throw its football-shaped hat into the arena, aiming to spotlight what makes this league so compelling. Across the series, Any Given Saturday tracks several teams throughout the 2024 season, documenting their highs and lows while weaving in some of the year's standout moments. If you've seen any of Netflix's other football docs, the format will feel familiar. You get a mix of player interviews, head coach commentary, family insight, and locker room access, allowing you to really get a feel for the culture and who the big players are at each team. This is undoubtedly a tried-and-tested structure, but one that works well here. The show also does a commendable job showcasing the history and stakes of each team, with unique rituals and local traditions set alongside the distinct mindsets and preparation styles each squad brings into game day. On the field, the action is just as captivating. Carefully edited footage and well-timed commentary bring iconic moments from the season back to life. 2024 had a treasure trove of unique moments, including a wild finish between Auburn and Texas A&M. We also get a shocker between Alabama and Vanderbilt, along with a deliciously chaotic final Saturday where some teams fight to salvage their season and others eye the playoffs. For the most part, the pacing is tight, and college football fans will be in their element here, especially reliving all the highs and lows each team faces. Motivational speeches and team talks help to add an extra emotional punch, and these are edited nicely to maximize the rising stakes in just the right way. Any Given Saturday isn't trying to reinvent the sports docuseries genre, and it may not dominate the field on Netflix — but it doesn't need to. This is a compelling, well-produced look at one of the most passionate leagues in American sports. It captures the intensity, heartbreak, and hope that fuels SEC football. And for fans, that'll be more than enough.

CBS enjoys highest-rated PGA Tour season since 2018

August 5 - The PGA Tour averaged 2.969 million viewers for broadcasts on CBS, an increase of 17 percent from last year, the network announced on Tuesday. The average is the network's best since 2018. Per CBS, 14 of the 19 final-round telecasts saw a year-over-year ratings jump. This past weekend drew in sizable numbers, as an average of 1.95 million fans tuned into to watch Cameron Young record his first PGA Tour victory at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday. Young strung together five consecutive early birdies and cruised to a six-stroke win at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. The average fan viewership represents a 36-percent increase from the final of the 2024 event, which was won by Aaron Rai. The broadcast team is set to undergo change for next season after longtime commentator Ian Baker-Finch announced his retirement after 30 years. The Wyndham Championship was his final broadcast. Last weekend's tournament was the final one this season for CBS. The PGA now heads into the FedEx Cup Playoffs, with NBC and its affiliates set to run the show. The FedEx St. Jude Championship will tee off on Thursday. --Field Level Media

Trump to announce White House taskforce for 2028 LA Olympics

Donald Trump is expected to announce on Tuesday that he will create a White House taskforce to oversee elements of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The president is set to sign an executive order establishing the taskforce, which will include cabinet members and government officials and will handle security and transportation on the first Games in the US in nearly three decades. The announcement comes after a summer of political clashes between the administration and Los Angeles leaders. 'During his first term, President Trump was instrumental in securing America's bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The president considers it a great honor to oversee this global sporting spectacle in his second term,' Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said in a statement. With the Olympics just three years away, the city has been rushing to prepare for the Games, which are expected to attract millions of people over the course of 16 days. City leaders have been in what the Los Angeles Times described as 'high-stakes' negotiations with LA28, the committee managing the event, over the use of city staff, including police officers. Meanwhile, a proposed ballot measure could require some Olympic venues to receive approval from voters in order to be used. Meanwhile, Los Angeles has been through a tense standoff with the Trump administration, including over aggressive immigration raids in the region and the deployment of US troops into the city over the objection of city and state leaders. The International Olympic Committee president, Thomas Bach, has expressed confidence in the 'strong' city and said the games have the support of US leaders. 'With regard to LA, we have the full support of the president of the United States and the governor of California and the mayor of Los Angeles for the success of these Olympic Games,' Bach told the Associated Press in June. Trump has frequently touted his support for hosting the games in Los Angeles. His recent budget bill allocates $1bn for security, planning and other Olympic-related costs. In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news, the chairperson and president of LA28 expressed 'deep appreciation' to the administration for their 'unwavering support'. Sign up to First Thing Our US morning briefing breaks down the key stories of the day, telling you what's happening and why it matters after newsletter promotion 'The creation of this taskforce marks an important step forward in our planning efforts and reflects our shared commitment to delivering not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028,' Casey Wasserman said.
