EaseMyTrip co-founder stuck in Bengaluru traffic for 2 hours, pledges ₹1 crore to map chokepoints using AI

EaseMyTrip co-founder Prashant Pitti recently endured a two-hour traffic jam while covering just 11 kilometres on a Saturday night.
Bengaluru's notorious traffic has long been a growing concern in India's tech capital. After experiencing it firsthand, Pitti has pledged ₹ 1 crore to identify choke points and help address the issue.
Pitti announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he has a proposal to find Bangalore chokepoints using Google Maps, artificial Intelligence and Machine learning.
'I was stuck at one choke-point at ORR, where I spent 100 mins struggling to understand why there is no traffic-light or cop here,' Pitti said in his post.
Pitti's initiative aims to move beyond mere complaints and towards tangible solutions as he firmly stated, 'I don't want one more Bengaluru Traffic Memes or Rant. I WANT TO FIX IT.'
Pitti has put forward a proposal on X, which talks about potential solutions to identify and fix the traffic bottlenecks in the city. Google Maps data and AI: Utilising Google Maps' 'Road Management Insight', city-level data in Big Query format, along with satellite imagery.
Chokepoint identification: The goal is to list down all the chokepoints and their exact timings in a month.
This retrieved data will then be shared with the traffic department, who in turn will focus their efforts on those areas specifically.
To bring the vision to life, Pitti is committing ₹ 1 crore, which will fund the following: Senior ML/AI engineers: Hiring 1-2 experienced machine learning and artificial intelligence professionals to join the cause.
Technological Infrastructure: Covering the budget for using Google Maps API calls, Satellite Imagery access and powerful GPU infrastructure required for data processing and model training.
Pitti emphasises that the success of this project depends on collaboration from local authorities. He is also actively seeking support from others on X. Government Partnership: The project will commence only when the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) or Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) provide access to raw data feeds or APIs and designates a dedicated team to act on the generated insights.
ML/AI community to act: he urged professionals to comment 'IN' if they are willing to contribute their expertise in a part-time setup, and end this menace.

Carmaker AvtoVAZ is facing difficulties due to the high car loans and 'price dumping' of imported Chinese cars in the Russian market. Russia facing major crisis, biggest car company forced to work 4 days in a week, how China destroyed Russia? Moscow: AvtoVAZ, which is the biggest carmaker in Russia, is going to make major changes in the company. It is planning to reduce its work week from five to four days. Known for its Lada cars, AvtoVAZ is forced to take this step because of the decline in car sales due to high interest rates and the increasing challenge from Chinese competitors. Its sales have declined by 25 percent in the first six months. However, the carmaker has blamed the high interest rates of Russia's central bank, because of which people are not taking car loans. The increased production cost is also haunting the country. The situation has come to the fore amid slow growth and fears of recession in Russia's economy. It is also a sign of the major impact on the economy following two years of heavy defence spending on the Ukraine war. How Chinese Cars Dominating In Russian Auto Market Amid slow growth and fear of recession, 'price dumping' of imported Chinese cars in the Russian market is also a major problem for AvtoVAZ. Notably, 'Made in China' vehicles now account for more than 50 percent of sales in the country. AvtoVAZ also plays a part in the country's big economy as it employs over 30,000 people. It is worth noting, earlier the Russian government has previously provided financial assistance to the company to save it from bankruptcy. AvtoVAZ To Reduce Working Hours Russia's largest car company plans to reduce its working hours starting from September. It is considering working four days a week instead of five. The reason is declining sales. In June, Russia's Finance Minister Maxim Reshetnikov warned that Russia's economy is on the verge of recession. Russian car sales are projected to decline by 25% in 2024, mirroring a similar drop in AvtoVAZ sales during the first half of the year. Autostat reports that AvtoVAZ sales reached 155,481 units in this period, representing a 25 percent decrease. Elon Musk's X ordered to block porn access for children or face up to £200 million fine

UK media regulator Ofcom has issued a stark warning to social media firms including Elon Musk's platform X, demanding the implementation of strict age-verification measures to prevent children from accessing pornography—or face fines that could be up to £200 million. The directive, which comes into effect this Friday (July 25), is part of the Online Safety Act 2023, a law designed to protect both children and adults from harmful online content. According to MailOnline, the new rules require that "all firms hosting pornography online must have robust and highly effective age checks" in place to stop users under the age of 18 from viewing explicit material. 'By Friday, all sites and apps that allow pornography – whether they're dedicated adult sites or social media apps – must use highly effective age checks,' a UK government insider told the news outlet. 'If companies fail to act, they should expect to face enforcement.' Under the new regime, any company that fails to comply could be hit with fines of up to £18 million or 10% of global revenue, whichever is higher. For Musk's platform X—previously known as Twitter—this could mean a potential penalty of £200 million, based on its estimated £2 billion in global revenue, the publication reported. Industry insiders cited by the news outlet suggest that X may have three options to meet Ofcom's demands: Ban under-18s entirely from using the platform Remove all pornographic content from the site Introduce targeted age checks for accounts or sections containing adult material Age checks could include facial recognition tools, photo ID submission, open banking verification, or mobile phone provider checks. The enforcement push comes amid growing criticism of Elon Musk's digital ventures. MailOnline notes that his AI company xAI recently launched a chatbot 'girlfriend' accessible to users as young as 12, raising further alarm among regulators and parents. Musk, 54, has overseen X since acquiring it in 2022. The platform, which officially allows users aged 13 and up, has long been criticized for hosting a high volume of explicit content. In addition to monetary penalties, Ofcom now has the authority to bar non-compliant platforms from operating in the UK, a move that could severely impact platforms like X if action isn't taken swiftly. As per the news report, a UK government insider is standing firm: 'If X or any other company that hosts pornography has not introduced highly effective age assurance by this Friday deadline, Ofcom has been clear that they will face enforcement action.'
