9 arrested near sensitive areas in Jaisalmer amid heightened border security
Barmer/Jaisalmer: Rajasthan's Jaisalmer police have detained nine individuals engaged in suspicious activities near strategically vital locations, following the intensified security measures along India's western border.
In an official statement, Superintendent of Police Sudhir Chaudhary said that the arrests were made by personnel from the Sadar, Kotwali, and Pokaran police stations in line with directives to closely monitor sensitive areas and act swiftly on any suspicious activity.
Several police teams carried out comprehensive patrols that led to the apprehension of the suspects under Section 170 of the Indian Civil Defence Code, 2023.
The individuals arrested include Dharmnath (21) and Jeetunath (27), both from Chandan, Sadar police station, Jaisalmer; Roopchand (44) and Lakhuram (33), both from Totaram ki Dhani, Kotwali police station, Jaisalmer; Harish (19) and Manoharram (19), from Raniasar Colony, Kotwali police station, Jaisalmer; Ugarram (20), from Dharvi, Barmer; Mohammad Rehmat (22), from Ward No. 08, Rani Patti, Ballari, Bihar; and Khetaram (21), from Aati, Barmer district, who is a habitual offender wanted in multiple theft cases.
Police have issued an appeal to the public to refrain from approaching strategically sensitive locations without a legitimate reason and cautioned against photographing or filming military and agency operations. Authorities emphasised that individuals engaged in suspicious or unlawful activities, especially in the border areas, will face severe legal consequences under a zero-tolerance policy.
It further said that law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring social media channels and sharing of sensitive or provocative content or engaging in suspicious online activity will lead to stringent action.

Drones, CCTVs to monitor Muharram processions, Kanwar Yatras
Varanasi: Drone cameras and CCTV network will be used to maintain sharp vigil on Muharram processions and Kanwar Yatra to be taken out during Shravan, said Commissioner of Police Mohit Agrawal. While finalising the preparations to ensure law and order during the religious processions, the official instructed to prohibit initiating any new traditions and sought the participation of community members in conducting the religious rituals peacefully. In view of Muharram falling on July 6 and the beginning of the auspicious month of Shrawan, the CP and district magistrate Satyendra Kumar held a meeting with the peace committee, Tazia procession organisers, Kanwariya camp operators, religious leaders, and prominent community members on Saturday evening. They issued guidelines for observing the rituals in a harmonious environment, maintaining peace, and ensuring security arrangements. For proper monitoring of the Tazia processions and the Kanwar Yatra, the CP mentioned that, apart from the deployment of police and paramilitary forces, drones and CCTV cameras will also be utilised for proper surveillance, especially in sensitive areas. No new traditions will be introduced, and all processions will follow the traditional routes. Provocative slogans, weapons, and inflammatory activities are strictly prohibited in Tazia or other religious processions and violations of the norms would lead to strict action. The CP asked the organisers to appoint 20 volunteers at each Tazia Chowk after their police verification for crowd control and maintaining discipline. Special arrangements will be made for the convenience and safety of the devotees in temples during the Shravan month. Officials have asked to keep the sound levels of DJs and drums during Kanwar Yatras within the prescribed decibels. Obscene, provocative, or film songs will be banned during the processions and the height of chariots and DJ vehicles should not exceed the prescribed limit, said the official. Officials said that continuous monitoring of social media will also be ensured, while Quick Response Teams (QRT) will be deployed at any sensitive location, and the police will keep a close watch on anti-social elements. Earlier, Additional Police Commissioner Shivhari Mina and the DM inspected Markandeya Mahadev Temple on the Ganga-Gomati confluence in the Kaithi area and Kanwar Yatra routes. After taking stock of the temple and areas in its vicinity, they held a meeting with the temple's chief priest to discuss essential arrangements and reviewed the local administration's preparations. The entrance and exit routes of the temple, queue management for devotees, and the status of barricading from a security perspective were observed. The officials also reviewed preparations for maintaining cleanliness, security, roads, ghats, and drinking water arrangements. The concerned departments were directed to ensure deep water barricading, jetty installation, changing rooms, mobile toilets, and drinking water tankers at the ghats to prevent drowning.

Odisha: Second phase of Baripada Rath Yatra begins amid devotion and tradition
Mayurbhanj (Odisha) [India], June 29 (ANI): The second phase of the Baripada Rath Yatra in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district resumed on Sunday, drawing thousands of devotees to the streets as the sacred chariots of Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra, and Lord Jagannath continued their journey. Steeped in devotion and distinguished by tradition, the Baripada Rath Yatra, also known as the Dwitiya Srikhetra in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, began on Saturday, a day after Rath Yatra in Puri. The Baripada Rath Yatra, celebrated a day after Jagannath Puri's Gundicha Yatra, features a unique tradition where women exclusively pull the chariot of Goddess Subhadra. This year, the pulling of the sacred chariots of Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra, and Lord Jagannath began on Saturday. The second phase of the chariot journey resumed on Sunday. Devotees thronged the streets, and the atmosphere turned electric with traditional music, rituals, and spiritual fervour. Thousands of women, dressed in traditional attire, came forward to participate, reflecting a harmonious blend of devotion and empowerment. As the three majestic wooden chariots settled at their final destination, Baripada reaffirmed its place as a vibrant cultural heartland, where faith meets tradition, and women take the lead on sacred ground. Meanwhile, the Odisha police reported a heavy influx of vehicles towards Puri on Sunday morning. 'Today, on June 29, 2025, since early morning, there is a very heavy inflow of vehicles towards Puri. Citizens may face a waiting time of more than 2 hours. This should be considered when planning to visit Puri,' posted Odisha Police on X. Earlier in the day, Odisha Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vishnu Pati and Commandant Ajay Padhi were suspended for negligence of duty following the stampede during the Jagannath Rath Yatra, which claimed the lives of three people and injured 6-7 others. The incident occurred during the world-famous Rath Yatra in Puri, as overcrowding led to the unfortunate demise of three devotees. Expressing deep sorrow, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased devotee. The Chief Minister ordered a detailed administrative inquiry under the supervision of the Development Commissioner and instructed the transfer of the District Collector and SP. Chanchal Rana has been appointed as the new District Collector, while Pinak Mishra has taken charge as the new Superintendent of Police. The Chief Minister reaffirmed that Rath Yatra is a source of pride for Odisha and assured strict action against those responsible for the mishap. He emphasised that such incidents must not recur, ensuring the safety and sanctity of the festival in the future. During the annual Rath Yatra, a massive crowd of devotees pull the holy chariots of the three deities - Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Shubhadra, which are taken to the Gundicha Temple, a short distance from the Jagannath Temple. The three deities spend a week at the Gundicha Temple before returning to Jagannath Temple. This year, the Rath Yatra commenced on Friday. (ANI)
