Close family member arrested in connection with murder of Jayden-Lee Meek, 11
The 11-year-old was last seen on May 13 when school transport dropped him off at the building. He was found in an unconscious state the next morning on the steps near the door of the flat the family lived at and declared dead when he was taken to a nearby hospital.
On Friday Gauteng police spokesperson Col Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the arrest followed an extensive investigation by Florida detectives with the assistance of the provincial investigative unit and tracking team.
'A case of murder was opened, and police conducted investigations which led to the arrest of the woman. She is expected to appear in the Roodepoort magistrate's court on Monday on a charge of murder,' Nevhuhulwi said.
'Police investigations continue.'

We were there with her as she was mourning the death of her child, not knowing that she is somehow involved. Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said the relative was arrested on Friday morning following extensive investigations by Florida detectives with the assistance of the provincial investigative unit and tracking team. Jayden-Lee was reported missing in May 2025 by his mother and was later found unconscious on the staircase of the apartment he was residing at in Fleurhof. He was declared dead at the hospital. 'A case of murder was opened, and police conducted investigations which led to the arrest of the woman. The following day, his lifeless body was discovered undressed on a staircase within the residential complex where he lived. According to reports, his body was still warm and clean. He had no blood on him, but visible abrasions could be seen, indicating a possible assault. When relatives were notified, Jayden-Lee was rushed to the hospital; however, he was declared dead on arrival. This is a developing story.

Female relative of Jayden-Lee Meek in court over alleged cover-up after his murder
The murder of Jayden-Lee Meek, 11, in Fleurhof, Roodepoort, led to a female family member appearing in court on Monday. The 31-year-old will stand trial on charges of crimen injuria, attempting to defeat or obstruct the course of justice and defeating or obstructing the administration of justice. With her face hidden by a mask, she appeared to be crying while seated in the dock of the Roodepoort magistrate's court. Heroin and tik worth about R54m seized at Cape Town home
A police raid that uncovered 6kg of heroin in a bedroom cupboard turned into a major drug bust when officers found more than 150kg of narcotics stashed in the roof of a house in Goodwood, Cape Town. Police received information and descended on the property in Molteno Street on Sunday. 'During the search members discovered and seized 6kg of heroin found in a cupboard in one room. The occupant of the room, a 32 year-old Tanzanian national, was arrested and charged for dealing in heroin with an estimated street value of almost R1m,' said police spokesperson Lt Col Malcolm Pojie. Another 100g of heroin, worth about R16,000, was found in a second bedroom, leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old Burundi national. 'While processing the suspects, the members received information about more drugs hidden at the residence. The members expanded the search, leading to the discovery of 145kg of tik and 16kg of heroin in the roof . The estimated street value is R53.3m, bringing the total value of the discovery to R54.3m,' said Pojie. The suspects are due to appear in the Goodwood magistrate's court on Tuesday. TimesLIVE
