Mahalia loves a Hydrafacial – here, she spills the tea on her go-to clinic, plus more beauty secrets

Here at The Cosmo Black Beauty Hub, we absolutely do not gatekeep, so when we get a chance to quiz some of our favourite Black women about their go-to beauty products, tips and treatments, we don't hold back – after all, that's how our Little Black Beauty Book Franchise was born. All the tea on our favourite star's life in beauty, served hot.
This week, we caught up with British singer-songwriter and actress, Mahalia, to find out her top beauty tips, tricks and secrets – from her wash day hair routine to the stylist she's been going to since 14 years old, below, the star spills all the tea...
Black beauty to me represents so many things. Creativity, strength, history and the richness of black identity.
I absolutely love a Hydrafacial. I always leave feeling like a brand new button!!!! My skin feels so clean and young after.
Skin and Sanctuary is my favourite place to go. The facial treatments are fab, and the clinicians are honestly brilliant. I always get a Hydrafacial! It's such a lovely, relaxing space too!
At the moment, because of my boho braids, I don't really have a signature wash day routine. But when my curls are out, I use all Pattern Beauty. I use the Pattern Medium Shampoo twice before going into the Heavy Conditioner. I usually leave this on for about 30 minutes before washing it out. Then I use the Leave-In Conditioner from root to tip and go over the tips with the Argan Oil Blend Serum. Diffuse until almost dry and then let the air do the rest!
Ah! My hairstylist is my go-to. He's been doing my hair since I was 14, and I wouldn't go to anyone else. Rio Sreedharan – collect your flowers, honey!!!
I definitely had bad experiences growing up in Leicester. There were lots of salons that wouldn't touch my Afro when I was a kid, which messed me up a lot, I think. I was constantly confused about why they wouldn't cut it or style it, and I think it just amplified all of my insecurities about being different as a kid growing up in a majority white town.
Weleda Skin Food. Ugh. My fave.
I've honestly never had one! I love the idea of getting a lymphatic drainage but I've never actually been for one.
I'm a high street, affordable girly mostly, but I am completely obsessed with the Dior Dreamskin Care & Perfect Le Fluide Perfecteur. It's so beautiful under makeup and keeps me feeling so hydrated.
The £1 lipgloss in Paks at the counter. They're so sticky and a bit messy but my gos,h do they give you GLOSS!!!
Dream Matte Mousse – when they only had about 10 shades. I spent every day of year 8 looking like Casper the ghost!!!
My Made By Mitchell Curve Case. I love her. Can't go anywhere without her!

UFC star launches boxing career with Matchroom

UFC star Molly McCann has swapped the cage for the ring and signed a long-term promotional deal with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing, with plans to become world champion within a year! The 35-year-old from Liverpool will make her professional debut later this year following a memorable career in MMA. Advertisement McCann, a former ABA Champion as an amateur boxer, takes up boxing once again after a decade spent competing in MMA. The popular Liverpudlian kicks off her new career in the squared circle campaigning at bantamweight under the guidance of Danny 'Whitho' Whithington at No Limits ABC in her home city. Close friend of Paddy 'The Baddy' Pimblett, Molly is also cousins with Irish superstar, Katie Taylor. Nicknamed 'Meatball' after working in her local Subway, she is one of the most successful and influential female fighters in British MMA history, and now hopes to win a World Title in the professional boxing ranks, specifically within eight fights. Advertisement 'This was always the dream,' said McCann. 'As everyone knows, I've boxed before. My weight didn't get added to the Olympic Games, so the only other option was MMA. MMA has given me a phenomenal life – one that boxing could never give me, but my love was always in the squared circle. 'I cannot wait to fight. I can't wait to show everyone the pedigree of boxing that I've got. People will probably think that I'm just going to run in and just try and take chins off, which is correct, that is what I'm going to do! But I'll do it in an educated manner. I worked so hard on building the brand in MMA and changing stereotypes. 'There was only one place I was coming. There was offers from everywhere, but I did send Eddie a little message. I said it's better the devil you know than the devil you don't know. There's no other place I'd rather be. This is the premier show for me. I've known everyone at Matchroom for quite a long time, and I've got a good relationship with Eddie. 'I've always been at the shows for the past few years causing trouble and now I get to bring all the scousers with me and have a go. The ultimate goal is to be a World Champion. I've got to earn my stripes like everyone else. I want a World Title within eight fights.' Advertisement 'I'm incredibly excited to announce Molly McCann as Matchroom Boxing's latest signing,' said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. 'Molly will compete now as a professional boxer – about time! Former ABA champion. Everyone knows the ability as a boxer. She has been a massive star within the UFC and built her profile globally. We're delighted to start the journey with her, and we're delighted she's chosen to sign with Matchroom. 'We're going to be fighting her all around the world. There's going to be some massive nights. I had the pleasure of watching her cage side in the UFC. The energy and the fanbase of this woman is incredible. She's a great person and a great fighter, and now she's putting the gloves on for real. The boxing journey is about to begin. 'We're talking about Molly starting somewhere around the Bantamweight division. There's some really good fighters there. She is a professional fight novice at the moment. She's not a boxing novice; she's got great pedigree. The movement of her career is going to be really interesting. The most important thing is to be active. We need to keep building her boxing brand now. 'She has the ability to be a huge star in boxing. We're looking at around six or seven fights in year one, and then after that we're pretty much ready to go. You're going to see her fighting for a World Championship within 12 months I think.'

It feels like a glitch in the matrix, but we are closer to the year 2050 than we are to 2000 and it's messing up my take on time MAJORLY. I am already feeling old, and I haven't even begun yet. A LOT has happened in the last 25 years in pop culture. From Y2K to Labubu, there have been incredible moments in pop culture to remember for years to come, and at this point, I cannot count them on my fingers. What can I say: as a generation, we are just that iconic! Before we forget our roots (Britney Spears songs and low-rise jeans), let's revisit these 61 iconic and momentous pop culture events from the past 25 years: 2000: Jennifer Lopez wears THAT iconic green Versace dress to the Grammy awards. If there were an internet to break, JLo would have broken it. 2001: The first movie of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and The Sorceror's Stone, releases. 2001: Apple's iPod is introduced, marking the start of a technological revolution of portable mobile devices. 2001: Britney Spears performs I'm A Slave 4 U, with a Burmese python at the VMAs. 2002: Halle Berry wins the Oscar for Best Actress, becoming the first Black woman to win one. 2002: Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake split up, resulting in the iconic track, Cry Me A River. 2003: Beyoncé goes solo with her debut album, Dangerously In Love, starting her legendary career and establishing herself as a pop culture icon. 2003: The iconic Madonna-Britney-Christina VMA kiss sets the stage ablaze. 2004: Facebook is launched, heralding the dominance of social media on the human conscience. 2004: Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction sparks controversy. 2004: Tina Fey's directorial debut, Mean Girls, was released, eventually becoming a cult classic. 2004: The F.R.I.E.N.D.S. finale episode becomes the fourth most-watched TV episode of all time, with 52.3 million viewers. 2005: YouTube goes live, and the era of long-form videos begins. 2006: The film The Da Vinci Code released, and it sparked intense backlash and discourse, with many Christian groups worldwide calling it blasphemous. 2007: The first iPhone is released. 2007: Keeping Up With The Kardashians debuts, marking a new genre within reality TV. 2008: Iron Man hits theatres, marking the beginning of the MCU universe. 2008: Heath Ledger passes away at 28, and wins a posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for The Dark Knight. 2009: Barack Obama becomes the first Black president of the United States. 2009: Kanye West interrupts Taylor Swift on stage as she accepts her award for Best Female Video, igniting a long-lasting feud between the two stars. 2009: The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, passes away. 2009: Slumdog Millionaire takes home 8 Oscars for Best Picture, Best Original Score, Best Director, Best Sound Mixing, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Editing. 2009: James Cameron releases Avatar, which would go on to re-define 3D cinema by becoming the highest-grossing film ever—beating Cameron's own Titanic. 2010: One Direction is formed on X-factor, re-starting the boy band phenomenon. 2010: Instagram was launched. 2012: The viral Korean song, Gangnam Style, is released by Psy, sending waves across countries—with 5.49 billion views on YouTube. 2012: Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises battle it out at the Box Office. 2014: Ellen Degeneres takes the most iconic selfie at the Academy Awards. 2014: Kim Kardashian's PAPER magazine photoshoot breaks the internet. 2015: Zayn Malik leaves One Direction, breaking hearts everywhere. 2015: Selfie sticks are seen literally everywhere! 2016: Leonardo DiCaprio finally wins his first Oscar for Best Male Lead for The Revenant. 2016: Pokemon Go has everyone running on the streets, attempting to catch Pokemon on their phones. 2017: The New York Times publishes an article on the investigation into Harvey Weinstein sexually harassing numerous actresses, and #MeToo movement takes over the world. 2018: Beyonce headlines at Coachella. 2019: The chaotic "Storm Area 51" meme was born. Marcel Barelli to Get Locarno Kids Award, Annecy Winner ‘Arco' to Screen at Fest

Swiss-born director and designer Marcel Barelli will receive the Locarno Kids Award at the 78th edition of the Locarno Film Festival this summer. He will be awarded the honor, presented by la Mobiliare, on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 12. During the festival, Barelli will present the Swiss premiere of Mary Anning, chasseuse de fossiles, his new animated film dedicated to the British paleontologist and fossil pioneer 'who revolutionized the discipline in the early decades of the 19th century.' More from The Hollywood Reporter Keanu Reeves to Host, Exec Produce Docuseries on the Birth of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team in the U.S. CNN's Fred Pleitgen on Reporting From Iran and What the Media Narrative Doesn't Capture Bob Vylan Addresses Glastonbury Controversy: "We Are Not for the Death of Jews" The fest also unveiled the lineup for this year's Locarno Kids Screenings, the section dedicated to younger audiences. The program includes Arco, a French animated feature about unexpected friendship and the fate of a world impacted by climate change that won the best film award at this year's Annecy film festival and counts Natalie Portman among its producers. 'Barelli has established himself as one of the most promising and original voices in Swiss and international animation cinema,' Locarno organizers said. 'In short films, such as Gypaetus helveticus (2011), Vigia (2013) – winner of the Pardino d'Argento at the 66th Locarno Film Festival, Lucens (2015), and Habitat (2016), Barelli has developed a unique poetic style sensitive to themes of environmental sustainability, exploring the deep relationship between humans, animals, and nature. In 2022, he received the Swiss Film Award for best animated film with Dans la nature (2021).' Said Giona A. Nazzaro, artistic director of the Locarno Film Festival: 'Marcel Barelli represents an idea of resistance to the conformism of emotions, which becomes a light and dreamy trait to outline a world to rethink and rebuild, returning it to human beings of all ages. According to Barelli, cinema and animation are made of the same material as the most precious and generous dreams.' The 78th edition of the Locarno festival takes place Aug. 6-16.
