At times, stability trumps wanting to always win, says Sabah Umno No 2
PETALING JAYA : Sabah Umno deputy chief Abdul Rahman Dahlan has made a cryptic post on 'stability' and 'wanting to always be the victor' amid speculation over the party's alliances for the upcoming Sabah election.
'There are times when stability is far more important than wanting to be seen as the victor in every clash. Choose the right approach to confrontations,' the former Kota Belud MP said in a Facebook post.
Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have announced a pact for the state election, while talks were said to be ongoing to rope Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) into the alliance.
However, last week, Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin said the state chapter will not work with GRS for the polls.
He added that any possible cooperation will only be considered after the outcome of the state election.
GRS chairman Hajiji Noor, who is also Sabah chief minister, said the ruling state coalition has yet to decide on its alliances for the election.
Last month, Hajiji said the existing alliance between GRS and PH, both of which form the state government, should be continued in the state election.
Bung and his Sabah Umno deputy have clashed several times in the past few years, with Rahman said to be keen on rebuilding ties between his party and GRS.
While Sabah Umno and GRS used to be allies in the state government, Bung led his party in retracting support for Hajiji as chief minister in January 2023. Sabah PH then gave Hajiji its backing to allow him to stay on as chief minister.

He added that RM77.5 million has been allocated for 13 education aid initiatives in 2024, including Budi, Baik, Semesta and GRS-Subfly, while Yayasan Sabah and Muis also contributed significantly through separate programmes. Sabah Allocates RM136 Mln In Scholarships This Year To Develop Quality Human Capital
KOTA KINABALU, July 20 (Bernama) -- The Sabah government has allocated RM136 million for the Sabah State Government Scholarship (BKNS) this year as its continuous commitment to strengthening the development of higher education in the state, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said. The allocation is the highest so far, which has risen significantly compared to RM50 million in 2020, reflecting the determination of the state government to ensure its youth, regardless of socio-economic background, have a chance to further their studies, he added. 'This is the government's long-term investment project to develop quality human capital that is competitive. We don't want young Sabahans to be left behind in education due to financial constraints,' he said in his speech read by Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif at the Sabah university student aid presentation (SENTOSA) at Universiti Malaysia Sabah here today.

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : The Johor government has urged the federal authorities to act immediately to prevent a recurrence of the system disruption at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar customs, immigration and quarantine (BSI) complex in Johor today. Expressing disappointment over the disruption, menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi said although there have been slight improvements in managing congestion, they remain insufficient. 'I have raised this matter directly with the relevant federal authorities. 'Such weaknesses not only inconvenience the public but may also tarnish the image of the state and nation, especially as this is one of the busiest entry points in the region,' he said in a Facebook post today. Long queues had built up at the BSI and Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) CIQs in Johor Bahru and other major entry points in the country, including Kuala Lumpur International Airport's Terminal 1 and 2, following the autogate glitches from yesterday. However, Malaysian passport holders were able to use the autogates without any problem. The Malaysian Border Control Agency attributed the disruption to data integration issues, which had slowed the cross-checking process in the MyIMMs system. Johor public works, transport, infrastructure and communication committee chairman Fazli Salleh said as of 6pm today, 26 out of 68 e-gates at BSI and three out of 12 at KSAB were back in service.
