Boxer on undercard of Katie Taylor fight dedicates victory to fellow boxer
Scotney became the unified bantamweight world champion when beating Yamileth Mercado by unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden on Friday.
The English fighter grew up on the amateur circuit alongside O'Connor, and her best friend was firmly on her mind when triumphing at boxing's most famous venue.
Scotney said: "First and foremost, all glory to God.
"It's been real testing the past few months as everyone knows, I lost my dear friend Georgia.
"Tonight was for her. Her dad's over here. I'd like everyone to give her a round of applause, she was 25 years old.
"She was a fighter and she lost her battle with cancer.
"But tonight I made sure her name was remembered in Madison Square Garden and that sums up my night."
O'Connor died in May of this year, having been diagnosed with cancer in January.

Katie Taylor still dreaming of Croke Park fight after defeating Serrano for a third time
KATIE TAYLOR hinted that she has not given up hope of fighting at Croke Park after her defeat of Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden on Friday. The Bray Bomber came out on top in her trilogy fight against the Puerto Rican on a majority decision, putting to bed any doubts over her dominance in the rivalry. Almost 20,000 boxing fans witnessed a more tactical affair than the previous two fights between the pair but Taylor won convincingly to remain the undisputed super lightweight champion. Quizzed in the ring after the fight on the possibility of retirement, the 39-year-old joked: "I don't know but I just don't want to fight Amanda Serrano again, she punches too hard!" However, in her post-fight press conference, Taylor hinted that she would like to fulfil her dream of fighting in front of a home crowd at Dublin's Croke Park. Asked if her loyal and vocal travelling support would see her fight again in Dublin before she hangs up her gloves, Taylor replied, smiling: "Maybe in Croke Park? That would be unbelievable." She added: "I said it in the ring earlier on, these people are spending their hard-earned money to come over and support me, it just means the world. "Honestly, I can't believe that this is my life, I'm headlining a show in Madison Square Garden, an all-female card. "Looking back on the whole journey, what an amazing life. "These are the nights I dreamed of as a kid and to be sitting here again as a winner, I'm just so happy, so grateful." However, Taylor added that she feels she has nothing left to prove in the sport and will instead savour her latest victory before making a decision on her career in the future. Cameron criticism Taylor was full of praise for her long-time foe Serrano, saying they 'created history together three times'. "My name will always be embedded with hers forever, I'm very, very happy about that," she said. "What we've been able to create over these last few years has been unbelievable, it's amazing to have a rival like that in the sport." If Taylor is to fight at Croke Park, it's unlikely to be against English boxer Chantelle Cameron. The 34-year-old was on Friday's undercard, retaining her WBC interim world super-lightweight title with a points victory over Canadian Jessica Camara. Cameron — the only fighter to defeat Taylor following a majority decision in Dublin two years ago — may feel she has done enough to merit her own trilogy fight against the Bray Bomber. However, while Taylor was fulsome in her praise for Serrano, she was dismissive in her assessment of the Northampton fighter. "I think Chantelle has to see if she can sell out a 1,000-seater arena first," said Taylor. "I don't think she can sell out any stadium at all. "I think I've made her more money than she really deserves, to be quite honest." Taylor has only ever had two professional fights in Ireland, both of which were against Cameron in 2023 at the 3Arena in Dublin. However, with one victory apiece, could the Irish fighter be tempted into a trilogy showdown on home turf against the former Matchroom fighter?
