MACC probes two more firms in data centre graft scandal
The case involves a detained project manager from a prominent construction firm who allegedly demanded kickbacks in exchange for tender advantages.
A source revealed that several company directors have been identified and will be called in for questioning. 'The main suspect admitted to requesting around three per cent of the project value from companies seeking contracts,' the source said. The bribes were facilitated by leaking tender details and ensuring priority for paying firms.
Payments were made in stages, aligned with project milestones. 'Several million ringgit remain unpaid as per the agreement,' the source added.
Earlier reports disclosed that the project manager attempted to destroy nearly RM1 million in cash during an MACC raid under Op Ways. Officers discovered burning RM100 notes at his Petaling Jaya residence, alongside RM7.5 million in cash hidden in pillow boxes, luxury watches, and jewellery.
On Friday, MACC arrested a contract manager, his wife, and two others in the Klang Valley over a Johor-based data centre project worth RM180 million. - Bernama

KUCHING: The cunning tactic of a drug trafficking syndicate by using cars as "mobile stores" to deliver supplies to buyers was successfully foiled by the police in a special operation conducted in Kota Sentosa on July 19. Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the raid conducted by federal Narcotics Department together with the Sarawak Narcotics Department at 8.50pm also led to the arrest of two local men aged 25 and 27 in a Perodua Alza. He said the syndicate, which is believed to have been active since the beginning of this year, would leave vehicles containing drugs at certain locations unlocked, allowing buyers to collect supplies themselves without any physical interaction, to avoid being detected by the authorities. "The results of the inspection of the vehicle found a black bag and three brown boxes containing 80 packages marked "Guan Yin Wang" containing crystal lumps suspected of being syabu (methamphetamine). "The total seizure is estimated to weigh 83kg with a market value of around RM3.07 million and could potentially harm 415,000 individuals. "Police also seized cash amounting to RM1,100 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, making the total seizure worth RM3.072 million," he said at a press conference yesterday. Hussein said initial investigations found that the syndicate obtained drug supplies from Peninsular Malaysia via air routes to be marketed in Sarawak and Kalimantan, Indonesia. "Initial urine screening found that one of the suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while the other had a criminal record with three offences related to gambling and providing false information. "Both suspects are now remanded for seven days from July 21 to 27 to facilitate further investigations," he said. He said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane if convicted. – Bernama

Median Wage Rises To RM3000 In March As Labour Market Strengthens
Malaysia's formal sector labour market continued its recovery in early 2025, with the median monthly wage reaching RM3,000 in March, a 5.5% increase from RM2,844 in the same month last year. The growth in wages was supported by steady employment gains and government wage policies, including the upward revision of the minimum wage. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), formal sector employment expanded by 3.6% year-on-year in March, with earlier gains of 3.1% in January and 3.4% in February, reflecting consistent momentum across the first quarter of 2025. Of the 6.8 million formal employees, the report showed males accounted for 55.1% (3.7 million), earning a median wage of RM3,000, while females made up 44.9% (3.04 million) with a slightly lower median wage of RM2,982. Wage growth was stronger among women, rising by 6.5%, compared to 3.4% for men, indicating gradual progress in closing the gender wage gap. Wages rose across all age groups, with the most notable increase among employees under 20, whose median wage surged by 13.3% to RM1,700. However, employment numbers declined slightly in the 20–24 age bracket, bucking the positive trend seen in other age groups. DOSM noted that the Mining & Quarrying sector continued to offer the highest remuneration, with a median wage of RM8,800, despite employing just 0.6% of the workforce. This marked a 4.8% year-on-year rise. At the other end of the spectrum, the Agriculture sector recorded the lowest median wage at RM2,200, covering 1.9% of formal employees. Geographically, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur topped the wage scale with a median of RM4,445, followed by Selangor at RM3,300. In contrast, Sabah (RM2,000), Kelantan (RM1,800), and Perlis (RM1,800) had the lowest median monthly wages in the country. While wage levels rose, income distribution remains a point of concern. As of March 2025: 27.4% of formal employees earned below RM2,000, down from 31.2% in March 2024, suggesting modest progress in reducing low-income prevalence. The 10th percentile earned RM1,700 or less, but this marked a 13.3% increase compared to RM1,500 a year ago. The 90th percentile of high-income earners made RM11,000 or more, up 4.8% year-on-year. Cops step up manhunt for suspect in Klang shooting incident
SHAH ALAM: Police are intensifying efforts to track down the suspect involved in a shooting incident and the discovery of spent bullet casings in Klang near here on Thursday. South Klang District Deputy Police Chief Supt Kamalariffin Aman Shah said police received a report from a member of the public regarding the incident at 11.15pm on the same day. He said the motive behind the incident is still under investigation. "Police are actively tracing the suspect involved and the case is being investigated under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960 for the offence of discharging a firearm," he said in a statement today. Those with any information related to the case are urged to contact the South Klang district police headquarters at 03-3376 2222 to assist with the investigation.
